Sony's Answer To 'LIVE' Finally Revealed.....

No, not really, at least not compared to Live. Regardless though, the original source seems to be 1up dot com, so we can all safely ignore it and write it off as false.

It's probably better than that Ubi.com server system :o

Yeah, my account never registered, even after like 4 attempts. :cmad:

This makes me laugh even more.

PS3 hasn't even launched yet, and is sucking already!

PS3 has already lost.

Xfire? Sounds like a computer anti-virus.:o

It's even more annoying than those. :csad:

It sounds more like spyware to me though.

So the developers are going to create a PS3 version of this software for Sony for free? Cause, y'know, this is supposed to be completely free to the consumers, right?

Playing against others is free (supposedly) but you will still have to pay for extra maps & all of that stuff

Playing against others will end up being free, with you paying for stuff like this (friends and messaging, in addition to all dlc).

If they did use Xfire it would be a great move, however I'm just going to tell you all that they aren't using it in PNP. Some of the Xfire tech is being used in the online portion of Untold Legends, that's about the extent of it so far, from what IGN has said.

Xfire a Subject in PS3's Dark Kingdom
The gaming network takes a smaller role with Sony than rumored.

September 12, 2006 - Today, 1UP News caused a bit of an Internet dust-up with speculation about Sony using Xfire -- an established gaming networking client -- as their own PlayStation Network Platform (PNP). This speculation was prompted by Viacom's Q2 earning's report conference call in which Tom Freston, then still President and CEO of Viacom, commented on how Xfire was developing under Viacom's ownership. "Importantly," Freston said, "Xfire just signed a deal with Sony to create a version of their platform for the new PS3, which will now enable Xfire to extend its reach further into the huge console gaming market."

According to Xfire CEO Mike Cassidy, however, the 1UP article contained some inaccuracies. "We do have future announcements," Cassidy told IGN. "For now I can only tell you Xfire is not part of PS3's PNP."

A representative from Sony explained to IGN that Xfire was contacted and that "some of their [Xfire's] tech will be included in the PS3 launch title Untold Legends: Dark Kingdom."

IGN's own Jeremy Dunham recently offered a tour of the debug version 0.85 of the PNP and a glimpse at Dark Kingdom, which is a fantasy RPG developed by Sony.

Both Sony and Xfire assured us that there would be more details about the PNP and Xfire's role in Dark Kingdom revealed closer to the Tokyo Game Show, which begins September 22.

So, wait, does this mean that each individual game might have its own online service layout?? Like perhaps some games's online service runs on the Xfire service and some on something such as Steam? Is this what they meant by giving the developers an "open platform" for the online portion of the PS3?? If so, that's even worse!

Give me single, unified, and subscription-based XBOX Live anytime over that junk (if true). :down

YEAH, I JUST READ THAT THIS MORNING. THE THING IS..........THAT'S EVEN WORSE. THIS IS EXACTLY WHAT I'VE BEEN TALKING ABOUT: 'LIVE' IS A UNIFIED EXPERIENCE ACROSS A WIDE RANGE OF GAMES AND GENRES (EXCLUDING 'EA', OF COURSE.........PLAYED 'NCAA FB 2007' ONLINE LAST NIGHT, AND IT WAS LAGGING LIKE SLOW-MO THE ENTIRE GAME :cmad: ). I'D SAY 'X-FIRE' WILL BE USED PRIMARILY BY 'SOE' GAMES (I SERIOUSLY DOUBT THIS "ONLY" FOR 'UT:DK' ), AND EVERYONE ELSE WILL USE WHATEVER THEY WANT.

I GUESS 'SONY' WAS RIGHT IN CALLING THE 'PS3' A "COMPUTER" ; THEIR ONLINE EXPERIENCE WILL BE AS ARCHAIC AND INCONSISTENT AS THAT OF THE PC REALM. :down

YES.....WHICH IS WHAT I'VE BEEN SAYING ALL ALONG (AND IN MY LAST POST).

'SONY'S ANSWER TO 'LIVE', IS REALLY JUST ANOTHER BIG QUESTION........"WHAT THE F*** ?" . :o

X-fire is good for the PC. I used it for BF2, but i don't see how it can compete with live.

For anyone that hasn't used x-fire. It's basically a video game version of AIM.

Rofl, 600 bucks, now this.

Rofl....
