I just read that Dante from DMC was supposed to be a character in SC3. Anyone know if this is true and the story behind that
And yeah, they did mess with a few characters in SC3. The game wasnt as balanced as it should have been with some characters coming out better than others. I think its main problem was that it was created for the console and then ported over to the Arcade instead of the other way around. I also didnt have as much fun playing this game as I did the previous 2. I dont know how to explain it but it felt a bit "generic" in many ways. It didnt stand out or feel as special as SC1 or 2
Dante was indeed supposed to apear in SCIII, but there were some licensing issues that were not straightened out in time for it's release. Since SCIV and DMC 4 are both going to be released on multi platforms, *read below* I can't help but think that Dante will make an apearance this time. Namco did mention that they wanted to delve back into the guest characters, and not just one per system. Here are the rumors I've been following thus far.
SCIV Guest Apearance on both X360 and PS3: Dante (DMC 4 promo), A certain powerful 'saber' wielding Jedi (SW Force Unleashed Promo).
PS3 Exclusive: Kratos, Rao Utu
X360 Exclusive: Covenant Elite, Overlord
Keep in mind that these are rumors, tossed around via Q &A sessions with Namco, player speculation on articles written and that Namco has Neither Acknowledging or Denying anything on these 6 characters. Characters that have been denied are Master Chief, Mario, Solid Snake, and Ryu Hayabusa.
Take all this with a grain of salt, but I just thought I'd share.
As far as Dante and the Jedi..I don't think these are far fetched at all. Remember what Namco did with Todd McFarlane and SCII. Spawn was used to promote the new Spawn Game coming out, and designed a character for all platforms in hopes of promoting his jump to videogame creation. Unfortunately, Todd's games were not much of a hit. Dante and the Jedi could be promo's, with royalties paid out to Capcom and Lucasarts for the exposure.
