Almost all of the the points WalkingDead cite come straight from the leaked drafts reviewed by several reputable folks in the business of reviewing drafts. However, according to the folks at Bay's and Don Murphy's sites, the drafts are "outdated" and have been changed since. There's no way to know what is and what isn't in the movie.
Thanks; I'll look for those.
However, an important part of the story in the draft IS that Megatron only makes an appearance towards the end (makes it more dramatic I guess) and he hasn't assumed an Earth vehicle mode (presumably because he's been experimented on by the military for many years now).
His sudden appearance and this entire premise is very reminiscent of SHOCKWAVE in the comics.
Won't be as near a surprise as that one was.
According to the leaked scripts the Decepts are more like silent killing machines (think War of the Worlds). If you think about it, it does make a bit of sense.... they're giant computers... they probably communicate by non-verbal means. On the other hand, the Autobots talk to humans verbally because they choose to.
Hmmm
you know what? I kinda... like this. I mean, I'm a fan of the old cartoon (and specially of the animated movie, where they killed the old toys to bring up the new ones but it was kinda awkward because the kids really liked these old toys so a lot of little children cried and stuff) and of the comic (until it got boring and all they did was create new versions of the Devastator archetype in each issue and also Optimus Prime had his head separated from his body for like 20 issues and then he died, what was all that about), but, you know, something like that just wouldn't work on current movie standards.
I mean, come on. "The Decepticons"? Suppose you are en evil robot from another planet, and you come to earth to **** mankind in the ***. Would you be announcing your little club of killer robots with a catchy descriptive name? Or would you be ****ing mankind in the ***? What about a giant robot turning into a boom box? That was cool, wasn't it? It was also an abysmal stretch. Can you really see todays audiences, with their ridiculous degree of suspension of disbelief, accepting that?
It worked perfectly in the cartoon (that was for kids), and it worked sometimes in the comics (but about 80% of it blows, frankly), but it wouldnt work in a major Hollywood movie.
You know what, they can make Soundwave an iPod if they want, I dont care. But it would be cool if they somewhat managed to have him be a giant robot with the face and the voice and the shooting smaller robots from his chest and whatnot. He doesnt have to transform into any form of sound equipment (btw most vehicles have sound equipments). And the robots that shoot out of his chest dont have to be cassette tapes. They dont have to be nothing. They just have to shoot out of his chest.
Right?
I'm not defending this plot.... just beating Walking Dead to the "apologetic-this movie will rock" punch. ;-)
(kidding)
I believe the movie is going to be fun. It's the perfect thing for Michael Bay. I mean, it's the next step, really. When I was watching that chase scene in THE ISLAND (which is a movie I first saw on DVD and will probably never see again), I got the sense Bay wanted it to go further, but didn't know how. Now he knows. Having the cars and $#!% transforming into giant robots in mid-chase.
