he had the coolest voice on the old series. think he'll be in?

He is currently in the movie...

BUT...

He is a 4.5 foot tall robot that turns into a stereo/cd player. He is also fragile and
he gets his head kicked off by a valley girl (the main female character).

Soudnwave probably tortures people by playing K-Fed 24/7

In regards to that, Robert Orci recently revisited the Don Murphy boards, and answered some questions about the film, though giving vague answers. When asked about Soundwave, he said that if the character appeared in the film, that he would be more faithful to the original than what has been rumored in recent months.

Yeah so I read...
But how faithful is faithful? They could technically change just like one thing and it could be more faithful.

I still stand by that the Decepticon Helicopter will end up being Soundwave before it's over.

We'll just have to wait and see. And I agree with you on Soundwave becoming the helicopter. Just have to change the name and maybe write his personaility into that role. Besides, the whole infiltration of the military base and ejecting a minion scene with Vortex sounds very Sounwave-esque, along with the MH-53 helicopter that was mentioned in that scipt.

His voice was definitely the coolest part about him, with that minor echo effect. Also the fact that he could eject out a robotic panther, vulture(?) and two little robots made him tops on my list.

According to a script review he didn't even speak so it's just one more reason to remove Soundwave's name from the character.

Soundwave is awsome, but just as long as the character has the voice like you all said i will be happy too. they have to give him a voice.

better be! his voice is the best thing or him being a tape player

I would be highly highly extremely disappointed if his voice isn't in the movie. It was one of the most "memorable" things in the cartoon... and definately one of those things I would could "iconic."

Having said that, if he's 4 feet tall I might walk out in disgust.

Well in all honesty, you'll probably walk out anyways. Cause thsi movie is shaping up to go against a lot of what you want/need for it to be good in your mind.

Damn, what's with the need to keep pointing this out without really making a point? Man, you're one of the easiest to please fans I've ever encountered. Bring on the Rock-em-Sock-Em Robots That Happen To Transform Into Things movie!

A 4ft tall comic-relief Soundwave getting his head kicked in by a little girl. WalkingDead *claps* "yaayyyy!."

Ok First Off...
You're pissing me off with the growing hostility to me.

Secondly, I've NEVER said that 4ft. Soundwave was a good idea, NEVER, not once. In fact the first couple of postings I made on the subject were against the idea of comic relief Soundwave. And I still think it's a bad idea!

Thirdly, I've protested against many things about this movie:
  1. Megatron not appearing until the 3rd Act.
  2. Megatron not having an Earth-based alt. mode.
  3. Bumblebee being mute.
  4. Decepticons not talking, just being there to fight and get blown up.
  5. Soundwave getting his head knocked off by a valley girl.
  6. Grimlock originally being the Decepticon Helicopter.
  7. Starscream only having two lines of dialogue.
  8. The Matrix being named "The Energon Cube".
All of those things I've been against since they were announced.

Well, if that's the case, get off my back. Every time I make a post in support of some other person or expressing a contrary opinion you turn it around and say something completely inane.

Either say something about the ISSUE BEING DISCUSSED or don't say anything at all. For instance, say why you don't think Soundwave's voice is not "iconic" or why you agree that it is. Stop posting the personal "you're gonna hate this no matter what" schlock.

Jesus Christ tell me that's all speculation.

I only posted ONCE that I don't think you'd like the movie overall...just now in this thread. I have only wanted to debate you on the Camero/Bumblebee issue, cause you make good points to debate and argue over with that. I've not ever attacked you on the facts of whether you'll hate this movie as a whole, until this thread, and I admit it was a bit out of line. But you've also grown hostile towards me as well.

So for now...I'm backing off.

And Yes, Soundwave's voice is the penultimate Decepticon Icon, the ultimate being the actual Con Symbol.

According to two different script reviews of a 4-month old script...no.
The only thing I know that has without-a-doubt changed is that Grimlock is no longer the Decepticon Helicopter.

Let's just stick to discussing or debating the issues or merits of this movie.

Almost all of the the points WalkingDead cite come straight from the leaked drafts reviewed by several reputable folks in the business of reviewing drafts. However, according to the folks at Bay's and Don Murphy's sites, the drafts are "outdated" and have been changed since. There's no way to know what is and what isn't in the movie.

However, an important part of the story in the draft IS that Megatron only makes an appearance towards the end (makes it more dramatic I guess) and he hasn't assumed an Earth vehicle mode (presumably because he's been experimented on by the military for many years now).

His sudden appearance and this entire premise is very reminiscent of SHOCKWAVE in the comics.

According to the leaked scripts the Decepts are more like silent killing machines (think War of the Worlds). If you think about it, it does make a bit of sense.... they're giant computers... they probably communicate by non-verbal means. On the other hand, the Autobots talk to humans verbally because they choose to.

I'm not defending this plot.... just beating Walking Dead to the "apologetic-this movie will rock" punch. ;-)

Thanks; I'll look for those.

Won't be as near a surprise as that one was. :D

Hmmm… you know what? I kinda... like this. I mean, I'm a fan of the old cartoon (and specially of the animated movie, where they killed the old toys to bring up the new ones but it was kinda awkward because the kids really liked these old toys so a lot of little children cried and stuff) and of the comic (until it got boring and all they did was create new versions of the Devastator archetype in each issue and also Optimus Prime had his head separated from his body for like 20 issues and then he died, what was all that about), but, you know, something like that just wouldn't work on current movie standards.

I mean, come on. "The Decepticons"? Suppose you are en evil robot from another planet, and you come to earth to **** mankind in the ***. Would you be announcing your little club of killer robots with a catchy descriptive name? Or would you be ****ing mankind in the ***? What about a giant robot turning into a boom box? That was cool, wasn't it? It was also an abysmal stretch. Can you really see today’s audiences, with their ridiculous degree of suspension of disbelief, accepting that?

It worked perfectly in the cartoon (that was for kids), and it worked sometimes in the comics (but about 80% of it blows, frankly), but it wouldn’t work in a major Hollywood movie.

You know what, they can make Soundwave an iPod if they want, I don’t care. But it would be cool if they somewhat managed to have him be a giant robot with the face and the voice and the shooting smaller robots from his chest and whatnot. He doesn’t have to transform into any form of sound equipment (btw most vehicles have sound equipments). And the robots that shoot out of his chest don’t have to be cassette tapes. They don’t have to be nothing. They just have to shoot out of his chest.

Right?

I'm not defending this plot.... just beating Walking Dead to the "apologetic-this movie will rock" punch. ;-)

I believe the movie is going to be fun. It's the perfect thing for Michael Bay. I mean, it's the next step, really. When I was watching that chase scene in THE ISLAND (which is a movie I first saw on DVD and will probably never see again), I got the sense Bay wanted it to go further, but didn't know how. Now he knows. Having the cars and $#!% transforming into giant robots in mid-chase.

Yeah. I kinda like the idea of the Decepticons being a silent malevolent force. That's an "adaption" that I think is inspired. They can choose to speak when they want to... but, really they don't have to. In fact, it's creepier if they don't.

I would like to hear Megatron utter or hiss "Primmmme" in absolute hatred when catches a glimpse of Optimus. But, that's all I need.

Getting back to Soundwave tho....
I truly lament the passing of "Soundwave." I think the whole size-changing thing would have been one of the COOLER sci-fi things in the movie. Its ommission is almost as bad (and cowardly!!!) as Godzilla not having nuke breath in American Godzilla 98.
