How would you have done Soundwave?

I want to do some sketches of what Soundwave could be like if he were done in the style of Michael Bay's Transformers, but I'm a little lost as to what his earth-mode could be. Obviously he can't turn into a little music player, because either he'd have to be tiny, or he'd be a physical impossible. Frenzy was originally going to be Soundwave, but they ended up changing his name because he'd gotten so different.

So basically, what I've got so far is this: I want Soundwave to be roughly the size of the other "large-scale" TFs in the movie, and he'll probably have some sound-based weapons. The question is though, what could his alternate mode possibly be? It's driving me crazy, because the robot form probably wouldn't be too hard, but coming up with something for him to transform into is a real pain, unless he simply doesn't have an earth form and only has a protoform like Megatron.

Originally there was talk of making him a Helicopter, but this vehicle mode, held by him in "Machine Wars" always seems suitable for me.

My brother just enlightened me to the perfect vehicle for Soundwave to embody...

What better form for Megatron's snitch than a mobile radar truck? :D

Mass shifting was one of the coolest things in TF. Done right and with the right special effects it could be done IMHO.

^ Wow, those are really cool! Well, here here's mine... Soundwave as a Kolchuga mobile radar truck. Personally, I think that the official concept designs look a lot cooler than mine, although I do like my idea of the radar dish being used as a shield.

And here's the "earth mode"

I really hope he resembles those early sketches if he appears in TF2! Ravage looked pretty sweet as well.

Those designs I posted above aren't official. They're fanmade by Crimson Dynamo.

Ah. Well, they're still a heckuvalot better than the one I came up with. If and (hopefully) when Soundwave does appear in the films, I'd definitely like to see him looking something like that.

I think I would've chosen a communications truck, too. Simply because I don't think that mass shifting is very believable at all. (Stuck out to me even I was still a child). Also, he could still transport his personal underlings in that mode. (Which I'd limit to the animal ones, if at all. Humanoid Transformers at eyelevel with actual humans seems problematic to me)

dunno...but i think Arcee would NOT HAVE BEEN GOOD 4 THIS MOVIE!

In love that 3rd Concept design of Soundwave. It sucks so hard that they didn't include Megatron's trusty right-hand man in the Movie. He better be in the Sequel and kick Autobot ass.

Soundwave is and his lil dudes are pretty much spies or specialist transformers that undergo specialist tasks.

Either we go with the espionage factor of it and have him be relatively small and some sort of home speaker system or maybe some speakers for an outside concert.

or have him as a specialised special services vehicle that is able to perform numerous tasks. Like an amphibian vehicle that is self armouring, with tatical weapons and communications device on board...

i also think soundwave should have some sort of optical camoflague so his name means something. i.e. you can only detect his presence when in this mode from the sound he makes...

in this case, he should be like some sort of ninja decepticon in his normal transformed state.

So disappointing that the people working on this couldn't come up with a simple design and alt-mode like this.

Seriously -- how can there be so many talented fans who actually UNDERSTAND how to update and adapt the Transformers but the highly-paid Hollywood design crews can't do it?

You guys are being unfair to the designers of the movie. You're giving this guy a free pass just because he's unofficial, even though his Soundwave is just as different from his G1 counterpart as Optimus Prime is. I smell the stink of opportunistic fanboys looking for a medium for bashing. :whatever: It doesn't change the fact that it's an awesome design though.

Anyway, I doubt they'd give Soundwave lips. Part of what makes him so interesting is that he is so ambiguous. You know that he's Megatrons apparently loyal snitch, but you can never tell exactly what's going on behind that yellow visor of his. :word:

I don't think we bash for the sake of bashing if we liked the designs we would say.

Why? Soundwave had a voice in the toon (by Mr Welker no less) and he is Megatron's loyal servant. He warns Megatron of attacks from Starscream and carries him off in the movie when Starscream would have left him. Granted he doesn't seem to do anything when Megatron is tossed out of Astrotrain...maybe he really does want to be leader :wow:

D'oh, my dislexia at it's finest. I meant LIPS. L.I.P.S. :o

Oh okay. Well...I know that is what make Soundwave such an interesting character...his voice and his lack of lips make him seem devoid of emotion however if they felt it necessary to give Prime lips...it doesn't look good for Soundwave.
