In one of the DVD extras in BB David Goyer and Chris Nolan said that they took bits from year one, long halloween and soem of the seventies comics.

We already know they're taking some elemets from Joker's first appearance. But, what about Black Mask? Sal Maroni? penguin?

What source material do you think they might or should use either seventies, eighties and now.

Black Mask and the Penguin won't be in the movie. Sal Maroni... well, Sal Maroni also appeared in 'The Long Halloween.'

Joker: Batman #1, Joker's Five Way Revenge have been cited as inspiration for Joker's appearance.
Penguin and Black Mask are not in the script. Therefore, they will not appear in the movie.

How do you know they're not in the script.

Well, according to reports Black Mask and the Penguin are not in the script. The latter's absence has been confirmed by Christopher Nolan.

so its just joker and sal maroni?

So far. Maroni's name appeared in the TDK sides from a few weeks back. Personally, I believe Scarecrow will appear as well.

I believe that, too. You know, there were also some dialogues in the sides that hinted at Scarecrow.

The junkie/bodyguard stuff? I dunno, there was nothing that made me sure either was Scarecrow there. A definite implication for fear gas use, though.

Yeah, that's what I meant. I think that if fear gas is in the movie, Scarecrow will show up at some point, too! Or at least I hope so. His last appearance in 'Batman Begins' was awesome!

Yeah most of the source material will be TLH/DV. Aside from the Joker stories.

Maroni and Harvey/Two-Face are covered in TLH/DV though. And Maroni was in Batman & The Monster Men/Batman & The Mad Monk recently, so maybe those. They were pretty good.

It seems, if we're taking the tidbits of script we have seen to be representative, that No Man's Land may have some influence. Batman alters his suit in that run. :)

I'm most certainly reaching, but perhaps Bruce 'alters his suit' by donning one of those cheap Avenger yarns worn by the vigilanties after said followers start to dissapear (Brian)
Maybe this is how he gets close to who it is that's causing their dissapearance. Just thinking out loud.

that actually sound good that.

Why do you think No Man's Land has an influence? Did Bats not change his suit after that ruin? The last scene of that storyline had Bats in the old suit, with the oval, at his parents grave on New Years Eve. It was changed by Evolution - did that come straight after?

Batman swapped his old "lipstick despenser" belt for the modern version during the story. Crucial.

True. But that's the belt, not the suit. Being pedantic and all. The removal of the oval and reversion to the pre-1964 style was the more noticeaable and important change.

didn't batman change his suit after Knightfall to make it darker with a stronger arsenal.

We don't need source material, Burton didn't use it and everyone loves his movies.

Burton drew on Dark Knight Returns, I don't think there's much doubt about that, and I think I remember reading a story about him readin TKJ beforehand also.
