As we all know, in Batman Begins and The Dark Knight the filmmakers took inspiration from several comic books and graphic novels. Thematically, a lot of the films have taken aspects of Frank Miller's DARK KNIGHT RETURNS and Jeph Loeb's DARK VICTORY, but a lot remains to be told from those books.

In addition, Batman Begins took a lot of elements from The Man Who Falls, the Neal Adams/Denny O' Niel issues that introduced Ra's Al Ghul, Batman: Year One and even some bits of Batman: Year Two (though the last one hasn't been officially confirmed).

The Dark Knight similarly borrowed elements from Batman: The Long Halloween and The Killing Joke.

I also found many similarities to episodes of the animated series, but that may be coincidental. Then again, it may not be. So it got me wondering, what other stories will be adapted into film this time around? Knightfall is an obvious choice with the confirmation of Bane, but is it really that important here? These films take place during the start of Batman's career, it's still the 'early years' in terms of story, what other story is there left to tell? And what elements from DK:R and DV were left out in the previous films that can utilised this time around?

Your opinions, concerns, and wishes go here.

i think a combination of Knightfall and prey would be an interesting story

A combination of Knightfall and Prey would be amazing. Im down for Gordon-Levitt as Alberto or Sionis, but id love to see him as a young Hugo Strange. Replace the presence of Max Cort with Bane and that would be one hell of a story, mixed with some Knightfall. More things for Nestor Carbonell (Richard Alpert!) to do this time around as the Mayor

I agree with a Knightfall/Prey combo based on what we know so far.

Have Bane take on the psychological role of Strange, using his intelligence to mentally break the Bat as well as physically. But that's nothing that hasn't been suggested before I don't think.

I'd love to see Bane break into a rebuilt Wayne Manor/upgraded Batcave and confront Bruce.

yeah even without Strange, a Prey/Knightfall combo would work so well

There'll probably be more material mined from Long Halloween, mostly for the Catwoman stuff I'd assume. I'd also look at Catwoman: When in Rome; that's a possibly big soure for Selina characterization, given it's part of the Loeb/Sale series.

As far as Bane material, I would assume Vengeance of Bane and Knighfall would be very important, but I also wouldn't overlook Bane of the Demon and Legacy - even if Bane isn't connected to the League or Talia, it's still possible that some of his characterization could have been derived from those books. It's very possible, in fact, that Nolan could've stumbled upon and became a fan of Bane FROM these books, maybe when doing Ra's research for Begins.

Knightfall
The Long Halloween
Dark Victory
The Dark Knight Returns

after reading about prey I am kind of coming around to the idea of Batman 'dying' in the next film, but sort of like in the Prey were the police think they've killed Batman and have it end with people thinking Batman is dead but there being rumours of a new Batman and Batman becoming a sort of urban legend as people think he can't die.

One aspect from Prey I would like to see is for Bruce to question what his parents would think of his actions. In BB, he just sort of jumped into this thing, but after the events of TDK, I would love for Bruce to really reflect on their legacy, and what he's doing to it just by living this double life. (Let's remember, the train that his father built to help people he wound up destroying...to help people lol, after he destroyed his father's name by acting like an idiot directly after Alfred told him not to)

He did all that to legitimize Batman in the court of public opinion, but now, not only is Bruce Wayne synonymous with ignorance & disdain for his own company, Batman is now perceived as a murderer, essentially making everything he did naught, at least for the time being. I'm excited to see how Nolan addresses that

Or, it is possible that they didn't look at any comics this time around, and it's a 100% wholly original idea.

To be completely honest.......... I don't think so; Nolan has always used some sort of Batman background from the comics, even just small things. Details that it took maybe a year that fans on here went their way to look up; even sky hook from TDK was used from a comic book, but changed it out to something more military run and with a plan, in opposition to a helicopter.

I think this one might be me the MOST original, but it's very unlikely if Nolan does this from scratch without a comic here or there.

I'm not familiar with Prey, but this sounds cool. I'd really like something like this.

i think as the franchise of these films progress they'll take less and less from specific source materials and just allow the stories to progress and evolve naturally. source material was mined in the first film to set the tone and characters of the universe. from there it was able to grow on its own.

A lot of TDK was inspired by various comics, probably just as much as Begins. Yes, this is its own self-contained story but it has been able to grow and evolve while still holding on to the source material. I don't doubt we'll see more of that with TDKR.

Knightfall, Legacy, Dark Knight Returns, Year One, Dark Victory, but just because of Bane's involvement Im gonna go with Knightfall and Legacy being the most drawn from.
