I admit, it took me a while to get that...:o

And also I thought you mean the chalk had something to do with the fact that there's a small island community that's rumored to be incest central not too far from where I live.

The Conferderate flag belongs in only one place: a museum.

What happened to VenomXXXL, VenomXXL, VenomXL, VenomL, VenomM, VenomS, and VenomXS?

The smallest is VenomM. Like in movie theaters.

Here's what I have to say about the whole thing:

If you have such Southern Pride that you're all about the Confederate Flag (and I know what it stands for, and know that it's not racist), and the South "rising again", then do it.

Secede.

We kicked your ass once already, and we'll do it again. And this time, we have the nukes.

In my entire Georgian life, I've only seen the Confederate flag displayed a handful of times. It's not as prevalent as you may think.

It's part of history, yes. But that's about all it is. Personally I don't get those that have it, claiming it's a sign of "southern pride". Whatever. :whatever:

But believe me, it's not seen that often. Just a handful of white trash folks hang on to it for some reason. Most southern folks, frankly don't give a damn.

The Confederate Flag belongs on the General Lee.

This and then some.
I've lived in Alabama for 23 years out of my 25 year existence. You don't see the Confederate flag often. Yes, you see decals, t-shirts, bumper-stickers etc displaying the flag with a "rebel" or "southern-pride" attitude.

For many that is all the flag has come to represent. A pride for southern living. Not racism, not rebelling against the gov't or states rights. It has become a symbol for what many would deem a redneck's life: hunting, fishing, mudding, four-wheeling, with dip in your mouth and an appreciation for ridiculously hot weather with ungodly humidity.

IA

I don't really see the point of anyone having it either. To me it's like saying "This country was better when it was divided!" And besides losing the war what else did the Confederacy do that was significant?

I got some shirts with the flag on it..... it's a part of history, and my roots go back down to the south (Virgina), so, in a way, it represents my heritege.

The whole thing is, when you look at the civil war, it was about alot more then slavery... many in the south took it as the north dictating to them how to live their lives, no matter what their opinion is...

plus, Josey Wales was a confederate boy...

LOL

Ask anyone on the street and they'll tell you that the Civil War was about slavery. They'd be mostly wrong, but that's what it's known for.

I agree. However the civil war was about decent and secession from the union and as such the symbols and mantras of the Confederate states, I believe, should not be used as official state symbols.

It does not represent slavery, racism, or southern pride. It represents a WAR, a CIVIL WAR and furthermore it represents the losing and opposing side of that war. It makes no sense for it to be embraced as anything.

That being said... I voted that your question didn't match your statement. I think that it should be used in an official capacity but to be banned or removed? Absolutely not.

I see alot of the flag even when I was in High School. The school was named Lee-Davis. And I live in the capital of the confederacy I can walk down the streets and see all sorts of historical sites if I'm looking. But honestly I think I'm more of a yankee it terms of lifestyle if that makes sense.

Ha, I just got in an argument with someone over this.

Rednecks around here think its awesome to wear shirts with the confederate flag, bumper stickers on their redneck-mobiles, hats, jewelry, etc. I hate it. To me, its like saying you don't want the United States to be united anymore but feel the south, with its under-educated population, would be better off separated from the rest of the country. I seriously can't understand the obsession. Especially considering they lost.

Dude, I live in the south. The civil war is pretty much all they taught us in history classes. No seriously, I had to learn about WWI and II all on my own. I know the deal, I just don't give a damn. Southerners are ridiculous. I can't wait to get the hell out of here. Of course, with my luck, the Army is going to stick me in Georgia or Kentucky. :csad:

FYI, the confederacy doesn't exist. Although the people in Richmond and the larger cities of VA are very proud of their history, which is okay, but the historical focus should not glorify what was essentially treasonous activity.

You wound me :csad:

I'm sorry, but I've lived in Georgia and I didn't like it very much. I thought Charleston was bad, but in terms of southernness, Savannah is like Charleston on acid. :csad:

I still  you though. :o

treason to some, is a hero to others...
