I'm sorry, but I've lived in Georgia and I didn't like it very much. I thought Charleston was bad, but in terms of southernness, Savannah is like Charleston on acid. :csad:

I still  you though. :o

(don't miss the next Hype Cast)

FYI, the confederacy doesn't exist. Although the people in Richmond and the larger cities of VA are very proud of their history, which is okay, but the historical focus should not glorify what was essentially treasonous activity.

I understand what your getting at. I'm just saying I see the flag alot, I don't exactly like seeing it when I was 18 pulling into school which had its unofficial "redneck" row in the parking lot. When it comes to history in general I don't read much into the civil war. But when it comes to walking around certain areas in richmond I can't help but notice certain things the have some sort of historical reference to the events from 1800's.

black man, pride in africa... brave
native amaerican, pride in his tribe .... nobile...

white guy, proud of his southern heritge... racist, dumb, inbread

LOL

Ask anyone on the street and they'll tell you that the Civil War was about slavery. They'd be mostly wrong, but that's what it's known for.

Ask who there State Representative is and they probably won't know that, or who their kids history teacher is, and you could probably even get them to sign a petition to end women's sufferage.

BTW, nice hide of the text. Didn't see it until I quoted you.:cwink:

Tornadoes > Hurricanes

BUT....... Hurricanes spawn tornadoes. Ivan made so many the NWS couldn't even count them all.
ergo
Hurricanes >>Tornadoes as Hurricanes are Tornadoes daddy.

lol. Not to be completely mean, but I can't help but point out that while complaining about being portrayed as "dumb" you misspelled inbred, noble, american, and heritage. And you wonder how stereotypes come about? :o

While BillyZaned might not be the best spokesperson for the South, what he says is true. Too many family members from states like Minnesota, Pennsylvania and such think that living conditions here are terrible or that our education system can't possibly compare. The majority of people must be either rednecks, hillbillies, country-bumpkins or the like. Paved roads are an uncommon luxury.

Yes we have our share of white-trash trailer park communities, but you go anywhere in this country and you'll see the same type of people...just with different accents.

It's not about having pride in your heritage there is so much more about southern culture than the fact that the south was part of a CIVIL WAR against the USA. If you can't see past that one event and explore the better parts of southern heritage I feel sorry for you.

it is a part of this countrys history....but when I see a poster that has the flag and beneath it the words "****** hunting license"....it paints an ugly picture

Very true. It's mostly just common ignorance, and I can understand that. But also Hollywood has a large part in painting a bad picture of the southeastern USA, and the gullible eat it up.

I think the big problem with the flag is the play who wave it. They're usually the sterotypical, dumb redneck with a deep seating hatred of the north, black community or now gay community, basically anything that is different. I usually don't see it as a source of showing their pride of where they're from, but their intolerance.

it's not a representation of civil war.. it's represents that of southern heritege...

lol... no spell check on here, and I'm terrible at spelling...

It represents a very small part of southern heritage and furthermore it embraces what might be one of the most negative and horrible events in American history. Brother against brother and all that jazz. And it only looks at a very small part of southern history. The civil war, which is when that flag was flown, only lasted from 1861 until 1865. That's FOUR years of history compared to the 200 years that we've had a "south".

Why not embrace something about the south that is positive or at least something that bigger and more important than FOUR years of history during one of our darkest times?

To me, it's a flag of a country that failed. However, I have seen nothing more beautiful that watching someone burn that flag.

It would be nice if the Southern states wanted to get rid of the Stars and Bars, but that'll never happen. All legislation to remove it from public sight have been met with outcries of indignity. In the end, it really doesnt matter if the flag stays or goes. The bigotry will be there no matter what.

The south has nothing to be proud of.

'Cept for Johnny Cash.
