Spanking children leads to adult mental illness

Using a belt to beat a child into submission is not a "real" way of saying you spanked your child with a belt. You blow things out of proportion, Hotwire. You don't just "reword", you exaggerate.

By the way, stop mentioning me. I'm getting tired of having to pull myself back into this thread when I see one of your posts relating to me. Don't attempt to justify your words, because it isn't working.

Bottom line? I disagree with your methods just as you disagree with mine. Nothing will change that. Not even repetitive posts about how "wrong" spanking a kid is.

IN YOUR OPINION! good grief.
And in your opinion it's perfectly okay. I have a tough time ignoring that.

I realize I'm not going to change your mind but, maybe one day, you'll understand the point I was making. And I won't mention you and your methods anymore.

I understand, just don't agree. Perhaps one day you'll stop the blatant exaggeration as well.

Not implying anyone is a child abuser.

He said, "I spanked my 5 year old niece with a belt." And felt this was perfectly acceptable. However, when I reworded it to, "You hit your 5 year old niece with a leather strap." Suddenly that make it sound like child abuse. The intent was to show exactly what he was doing and that no amount of sugar coating, or pretense would get it or justify it.

Bottom line, hitting kids, for ANY reason, is unneccesary, uncalled for, and flat out wrong.

Hit with a leather strap doesn't even sound that horrible...what you said is "beat into submission". THAT is an over exaggeration that does imply abuse.

Insolence leads impatience. Impatience leads frustration. Frustration leads to spanking. :(

Perhaps. However, in both cases you are still hitting someone to force their compliance. I admit, it is sensationalized a bit but, it's not an exaggeration. And the fact that the child submits quickly and the "beating" isn't that severe, doesn't change the act of using force to punish a child.

I will always view adults hitting children, regardless of their reasons and excuses, as wrong.

...Ya think?

Beat: Verb:Strike (a person or an animal) repeatedly and violently so as to hurt or injure them, usually with an implement such as a club or whip.

You know good and well that using words like beat, batter, pound, pummel, thrash, clobber, lash, pelt, wallop, slug, trounce, or any other words you will use to "reword" spank imply something more severe than what it really is. It's similar to using words like scream, shout, shriek, or yell to describe someone raising their voice.

Like how you sugercoat your lying behind "rewording"?

Spanking does not equal "beating into submission". It conjures up imagery that is, in all probability, not at all what goes on in ThePowerCosmic's household, and it is a deliberate and disingenuous sensationalization to make your point.

Fine, take the word beat out of it. It is still hitting a child as punishment for noncompliance. Do you deny that?

Is that a lie, Schlosser?

Sure, it's hitting a child as punishment for noncompliance.

It is not "beating into submission". This conjures images of a parent cornering their screaming child in a corner and lashing them with a whip until they fall to their knees and don't struggle anymore.

While it may not be as extreme as what you describe, it is basically the same thing. Forcing someone, in this case a child, to comply by hitting them.

If more people saw spanking as hitting, perhaps they wouldn't do it. It's very obvious that when people look at what they've done in a different light, it makes them very uncomfortable and they suddenly try to refocus the debate onto justifying their action by applying the pretense of discipline.

So much truth in this post.

Edit: Your post is also what I was talking about, Mistah K88. The blatant misuse of words and then attempting to warp statements to make the other person seem wrong. A futile attempt, and an obvious one at that.

Pretense? Do you think people have fun spanking their children or something? You are so ridiculous, man.

You must get nosebleeds from the altitude of that pedestal you put yourself on.

It's funny how in a debate over whether or not to hit your kids as a form of discipline, the guy against it is the a**hole.

Whatever, guys. I find it appalling that so few people around here would be against this. All I wanted to do was show spanking for what it is. Hitting a child. Just because you do it as a form of punishment, does not change the fact that you are a grown adult hitting a child. To me, there is absolutely NO excuse for it. There are simply other ways to instill discipline in a child that do not require the use of force. It baffles me why so many people would cling to such a barbaric notion that if a child doesn't listen, you should hit it. With a belt if necessary! Why? Is there ANY other instance where this concept is accepted? You hit team dog, the cat? What about a subordinate at work who won't fails to follow instructions? I know that idea sounds outrageous but, for some bizarre reason, doing it to a small child is okay.

I've made my points. You guys want to keep defending it, fine.

I respect your opinion and think it's a very valid opinion.

But the way you went about expressing your opinion to the point of insinuating that it seem like you are insulting other posters?

That's why some people here think you're an a'hole.

Some people don't like it when people have a sanctimonious attitude.
