Any idea of who would make a good Speed Racer? Back in the eightys and early 90's I would have said Johnny Depp with Mel Gibson as Racer X.

Now for Racer X, I would choose Clive Owen and Brian Dennehy as Pops.

Yeah, Wachowsky made The Matrix, but also it's crappy sequels.

I should wait for first look to judge this movie.

The monkey is what requires this to be Family-friendly. No way you can have Chim Chim in a rated R movie.

ugh. I had to review volume 5 of the cartoon for a dvd/movie site. I can't imagine why everyone is so ga-ga for this crap. I thought it was pretty lame. Im curous about the film with the brothers doing it, but i can't say i'm looking forward to it though.

The Speed Racer cartoon was the ****...when I was 10, then you grow up and realize how cheesy it is, kinda like TMNT and Jonny Quest(Would be a kick ass movie)... But I am looking forward to this, it does have a lot of potential; and the fact that Racer X kicks ass

I agree. However, if get rid of all the cheese, there are some awesome story concepts here that if developed properly and taken seriously, could really be a good movie or even franchise.

A young, wholesome but naive racer car driver, who longs for adventure and wants to travel and take the world by storm.

A father who is a brilliant racing expert and race car designer and has taken his son under his wing but alienated and lost his first son.

A mysterious race car driver who is more than what he seems and has a connection to Speed.

A new concept race car that is used for racing but unwittenly becomes an instrument that is criticial against a plot that threatens mankind.

A little boy and a monkey that always getting into *****.

Okay, get rid of that last one and I think this could be a good movie.

This movie could be modeled somewhat on an old '60s Bond movie starring Sean Connery. Of course Racer X would play the Bondish type role, that is why I favor Clive Owen in the role.

No no no. Thats not the one. See the original sixties series. Much much more superior especially with the Japanese magna art. Sometimes it comes across pretty corny but some of that is because it was adapted for U.S. audiences from the original Japanese show called Mach Go Go Go
