I thought this was supposed to be the cut shown on FX, which, if I'm not mistaken was far more than 8 min's longer.

Did I miss something here? Will the cut shown on FX be avaliable anywhere?

Thanks
Glenn

No....the FX cut had like one minute of extra stuff, it was just a tease to get rating for FX.

This is the extened cut that has been talked about for almost 3 years now. 8 new minutes including extra Ock fight scenes.

So this is suppose to be the real extended cut with longer fights, like the apartment fight, etc?

Yes this the REAL extended cut. And it's digitally remastered as well.

Yeha, I thought they were saying the FX cut was like a half hour longer. WTF???

I don't think they ever said it was 30 min longer lol. But it was only 5 minutes of stuff they showed just for the presentation of Spidey 2 on FX. The only scene extended was the backyard scene.

I applaud the fact that this Sony extended cut isn't barebones (like their Black Hawk Down extended cut), but this edition seems to be a wash nevertheless. The commentary by screenwriter Alvin Sargent and producer Laura Ziskin sounds interesting, but the rest of the stuff seems like stuff ported over from the 2004 release, which was excellent in every way.

The report says that the FX extended cut will be this one. I saw the FX cut and it isn't better than the theatrical cut. Most of the stuff integrated is just more exposition and mostly extensions of scenes in the theatrical cut (plus there's a recap of the first movie before the opening credits start). The clock tower/train sequence and the dock climax aren't extended at all, but I haven't seen the entire FX cut so I can't vouch for whether the Doc Ock bank robbery sequence is extended or not.

And the audiovisual quality of the 2004 release was very good -- the video could've been slightly better but the sound was amazing. Don't see why Sony felt the need to remaster it completely -- if the sound is remixed in DD-EX surround and has the Superbit's DTS track I might buy it. The clincher of whether I'll get it or not is if Sony will include a free ticket for Spider-Man 3 and it seems like this doesn't.

Since DVDactive doesn't add their image urls, here's the link.

As for me? I think I'll pick this up from some sale.

I never bought any of the Spidey films on DVD, however I was given the second. I'm still waiting for that boxed 3 film special edition to come out when Spidey 3 DVD hits the shelves.

yeah it would be interesting to hear whats on the 2nd disc

So Spider-man goes with .1 (Spider-man 2.1) and X-Men went with .5 (X-Men 1.5 and X-Men 2.5)so which system do you prefer?

id rather they just call it the extended edition

I just want to see the extended fight.

its coming in one of those cool boxes like the X3 SE and the Superman Returns SE, I like those. Do you think the cover will be holographic or popping out like SR?

I wasn't gonna get this but that cover is pretty badass...:wow:
Well that is one reason to buy a DVD, it is after all the reason I got xXx and I think I watched that DVD a whole once before I got sick of it.

Sony has released the full specs on Spider-Man 2.1 (yes, it is in widescreen):

Disc 1: Main Feature
- 2.40:1 Anamorphic Widescreen
- English, French, Portuguese & Spanish DD5.1 Surround
- English, French, Portuguese & Spanish subtitles
- Audio commentary by Producer Laura Ziskin and Screenwriter Alvin Sargent
- Spidey Sense 2.1 trivia track with integrated pop-ups that take you on the set during key scenes

Disc 2: Extra Features
- Sneak Peek: Spider-Man 3
- Inside 2.1 Featurette
- Multi-Angle: Danny Elfman’s Score
- With Great Effort Comes Great Recognition Featurette
- VFX Breakdown – an in-depth look at the Visual Effects of Spider-Man 2.1

I do like the fact that Sony hasn't rehashed any of the extras from the 2004 release, but I expected more extras on the second disc. They could've put all the theatrical trailers, TV spots and marketing tie-ins on the second disc, as there is more than enough room for them..
