Spider-Man 3 Hype through the roof

I get a "Spidey 3" buzz type feeling whenever I drive by the two huge posters outside the local theater and seeing people standing in front pointing at them. I really think this movie is going to be huge. Good thing I've already got my tickets for opening day!

I'm starting to get all teary-eyed thinking about it... I've been listening to the main theme for both of 'em and there's that part where it gets all moody. I've been getting all emotional listening to that part over and over and just thinking how incredible the movies are.

The truth is out, I see it Thursday. I'm watching Spidey 1 and 2.1 tomorrow night to prepare before I fly out to LA.

MovieTickets.com the world's most powerful movie ticketing service,
is offering advance tickets to Sony Pictures' Spider-Man(TM) 3, and
moviegoers are buying tickets weeks before the film's May 4 theatrical
release. MovieTickets.com exclusively tickets online for nearly 90 theater
chains, and is now selling tickets from many of these movie theater
partners.

"This early demand for Spider-Man(TM) 3 at this stage in the sales
cycle reinforces the value of advance movie ticketing for consumers and
exhibitors, and indicates the film is tracking to open as big as expected,"
said Joel Cohen, executive vice president and general manager,
MovieTickets.com.

MovieTickets.com began selling Spider-Man(TM) 3 tickets on April 4, and
is offering advance tickets via multiple channels including wireless and
online through its own website and via an extensive network of web-based
distribution partners.

"Spider-Man 3" Web ticket sales top predecessor

LOS ANGELES (Reuters) - Moviegoers are buying online tickets to "Spider-Man 3" at a faster clip than they did for its blockbuster predecessor almost two weeks before that film hit theaters, top online ticket sellers said on Monday.

Movietickets.com reported that Spidey 3 tickets are selling at three times the rate of "Spider-Man 2" at the same time in the sales cycle and are "tracking to beat all expectations."

"Spider-Man 2" was the third-highest grossing film of 2004 and grossed about $784 million at the box office.

Fandango.com shows the new film is selling four times faster than did the previous movie in the franchise and accounted for 47 percent of all ticket sales early in the day on Monday.

The new film, produced and distributed by Sony Corp.'s Columbia Pictures and Marvel Entertainment Inc., has sold out dozens of the thousand or so midnight showings scheduled for May 3, said Fandango spokesman Harry Medved.

"Spider-Man 3" debuts in theaters on May 4 with the original cast of Tobey Maguire, Kirsten Dunst and James Franco reprising their roles. The movie had its world premiere in Tokyo last week and is currently on a world tour that culminates with the global debut in early May.

The film kicks off a potentially lucrative summer season for Hollywood studios and movie theaters, with the third installments of the "Shrek" and "Pirates of the Caribbean" series of movies also slated for May. The summer season often accounts for as much as 40 percent of annual ticket sales.

The first two "Spider-Man" movies together grossed roughly $1.6 billion at global box offices. The new film, which cost $250 million to $300 million according to news reports, could be director Sam Raimi's last about the web-crawling superhero -- a factor that may be driving early ticket sales, said Fandango columnist Richard Horgan.

"Raimi is a beloved director of this kind of material ... and people are really getting the sense that he is really going to top himself. He is going to go out with a bang," Horgan said.

Horgan cautioned that while online advance sales do not always track box office sales, he said the film could be "an absolute monster."

How come all you post that the movie is in theaters May 4th? I've bought ticket for it on May 3rd here in Denmark. On Danish posters it says: In Theaters on May 3rd, of course just in danish not english.

That's the US release date. Countries like Germany even get it on May 1st!!!

Oh... Bummer, huh? Normally US get all the good movies first.
But I guess I'll have to hurry and see and then come post all the spoilers:cwink:

Pirates and Shrek haven't got **** on Spidey this year.

Shrek 3 will bring in an ass-load of money simply because it's an animated movie...and the first two were good. Still, when put up against Pirates one week later, it's going to lose alot of steam....just as Pirates will still have Shrek 3 to contend with...not to mention that Spidey will still have a little steam left in it(not to mention the second Pirates film was crapola).

Pirates only hope is in the fact that there are no truly MEGA-blockbusters coming out until FF2 hits three weeks later...which will make money, whether its good or bad. Also, Oceans 13 could (doubtful, but maybe) steal a little of its thunder, as it has a cast of half the a-lists in Hollywood.

I see Spidey taking the crown from Shrek 3 and Pirates 3....with it's main competition being Transformers and Potter 5. Mainly TF, seeing as how alot of people have been waiting for it fo so long. I doubt it'll be as good as Spidey 3 (It is Micheal bay, after all), but it could make alot of money, as many people still seem to drop cash on Bay films.

That's just my two cents.

IMO The top 3 contenders for the crown of top box office are Spider-man 3, Transformers, and Pirates 3. Simple as that. With Potter 5 coming in right after those 3. To me Spider-man 3s gross all depends on one thing..its first weekend. Bad word of mouth will KILL momentum. If the fans hate the movie trust me things will go down hill. The long run time may kill the deal for the average movie goer but I doubt that if so many people saw LOTR. Spider-man 3 will conquer May until Pirates 3 premiers in my eyes.

To me Transformers will come out on top this year. TF Fans have waited to long for a Transformers Movie and if the hate the movie or not they will see it because they dont know if it will be another 20 years until another Transformers Movie comes out. Plus I can gurantee the Special FX will be alot better than in Spider-man 3 for multiple reasons. 1. No were near of TFers budget needs to go to the cast as spidey 3 leaving cash for some cool graphics which is a understatement. 2. ILM is handling the CGI so you know there in good hands. 3. Metal and robots in general are easier to create than flesh and blood humans. Think about it. Well enough about CGI going against eachother.

Shrek 3 is looking down to me. I saw a trailer and I didnt even get a smile from my 8 year old cousin. The movie may do ok but nothing like Shrek 2 I'm betting. I saw another TV Spot and It made me cringe at the humor. It was one of the purposely akward humor scenes where Shrek was trying to talk slang to a character and It just wasnt funny. And I hate when movies add there offspring into the mix and it seems like Shrek 3 is taking that route.

Pirates 3 will move on its own momentum. People want to see the trilogy end for the good or bad. I want to see it. Hell, me whole family wants to see it and they are fans of 1 and 2. The love the Charming character of Jack Sparrow. Though I can live without Orlando. :woot:

FF2:ROTSS...........Ugh thats all I have to say.

Potter 5: Harry nerds and fantasy fans will come out in droves for this movie. I expect it to do well.

Good post. I agree that Shrek will disappoint while so many are underestimating Transformers... I think Transformers could easily finish #2 if not win the summer.

I really don't think Transformers will be in the top 3 and may not even be in the top 5. It doesn't seem to have the mass appeal that POTC or Spider-Man have. Plus with the final HP book coming out around the time of the movie, Harry Potter hype will be through the roof so I think HP will be the #3 movie.

Transformers ain't got no chance to do a number on Spidey, PotC, Shrek and Potter. Maybe not even the new F4 movie.
Even with Spielberg involved, it's still a Bay movie and though I enjoy most of them, they always fall short in their stories.

If anything will shine bigger than expected this summer it will be Die Hard 4! Think about it: It's the only movie with a terrorist plot this summer and it will show one of the biggest bad asses of the action genre ever saving the USA again and prolly for the last time! He's the guy Jack Bauer would ask for help. Just bigger and badder in all extremes.
Does anyone really think a movie about some robots attacking the world will move anyone in their seat??? It's 2007 not 1997.
They'll make a decent cut but that'll be it.

I disagree with you on all fronts. How on earth do you expect FF4 2 to beat out Transformers?? Seriously. Thats a flat out lie. Why would you say that People would not want a movie with Robots attacking the world?? They would want one because its cool. People saw 300 because it looked cool. Hell I asked people if they knew it was based off a comic book but they looked at me with a blank stare despite the fact the trailer just stated so. Because people were talking about how badass 300 looked they flocked to the movies and after they viewed the movie and noticed it was good more people flocked. Transformers will do the same thing except better in terms of boxoffice receipts. People may not think its good but they will see extremly well done CGI and action and go flocking to the film. Hell they may not like it but its still pretty. Plus Transformers isnt just some film franchise it is a fan base. You should know that. Transformers will be in the top 3 of this summer. TF Fans dont flame me. I'm talking the values that the TFers movie will have to people who have never heard of the franchise so quality isnt factoring into my box office ideas. Besides you know Transformers looks cool.:cwink:

DH4 is overdone. The film is too late. Bruce Willis is no longer in his prime..at least not for action movies. The last role Bruce had that was great in recent memory to me was as Hartigan in Sin City. Not to mention the film has a ridiculous plot. Internet terrorists seriously?? Yes I know Internet Terrorism is all to real but it isnt good for film in my eyes. Also it has the IMO incredibly annoying Justin "I'm a Mac" Long.
The 3 Movies that will top this Summer undoubtedly are Spider-man 3, POTC 3, And Transformers. Shrek and Potter will have to settle with sloppy seconds. Think about Transformers only has DH4 to compete with and it will be crushed by the juggernaut that is Transformers. DH4 will be completely overshadowed by Transformers. DH4 will only have that one week before Transformers releases to recoupe its budget and "poof", its gone. Watch once people start saying ,"Have you seen the new Transformers Trailer?? Its awesome!!" ,you'll start also hearing, "McClane who??". Shrek 3 cant do much because it had to go and choose the time between Spider-man 3 and POTC 3. Its in a deadzone. POTC 3 will tear it apart the week after it releases and Spider-man 3 will still be nipping at its money as well. All IMO but hell what do I know??

I really don't care who wins the summer box office. Hell, I just want SM3 to make enough to garnish a SM4, then I'll be happy. :)

Hahahahaha.

Transformers being in the top 3 of the summer has two chances -- slim and none. And slim just went out of town.

Shrek alone would own Transformers. Do you realize how successful Shrek 2 was? Same goes for Potter. Plus, I'm sure that once the reviews of Transformers start piling in, that won't help the film much.

They way Spidey 3 is tracking chances are looking good, for it to set even bigger record openings.:hyper: If it happens fantastic, as long as it perfoms well I'm happy.

So what's the new record that Spider-Man 3 will have to break? POTC: Dead Man's Chest set it last year. I think it's a $135 million opening weekend. Anyone got a hard number to shoot for?

How does Transformers have a slim to none chance of being in the top 3 of this Summer at the Box Office?? Why do you people keep underestimating Transformers?? It has all the makings to be a massive pop corn movie. It doesnt even matter about reviews. Look at 300. The reviews werent so hot and its still making money. What you dont seem to get is that Shrek 3 and POTC 3 are going to tear eachother apart. POTC 3 releases a week, not two weeks, one week after Shrek 3. Shrek 3 will have hardly anytime to gain the Shrek 2 gross. POTC 3 will most likely crush Shrek 3. Also Spider-man 3 will still be playing so its slim to none for that Shrek 3 will make as much as Shrek 2. Plus I've seen clips and the humor isnt all that great. Infact the only character that I have ever really enjoyed in the Shrek films was Puss N Boots and he came out in 2. Plus there introducing the IMO annoying concept of the Main Characters children which always leads to vomit and fart jokes. POTC 3 should be able to earn as much or more as POTC 2 but that just depends on FF 4 2(Ugh). Transformers has no real competition in the month of July save for Harry Potter a week later. Which doesnt matter because Transformers is fresh. I'm tired off seeing numbers on my movies. Lets get some new stuff in. Not to mention there hasnt been a Transformers movie in 20 years and fans might have to wait another 20 if they dont see this one. Transformers WILL be in the top 3.
1.Spider-man 3
2.POTC 3
3.Transformers
4. Harry Potter: Order of the Phoenix
5. Shrek 3
6. FF 4 2
7. Live Free Die Hard.

Can we make a bet on this right now? Like a friendly bet, since we can't really bet with anything.

But I bet you that Transformers will NOT be in the top 3 highest grossing movies this year. So after all is said and done with all these big movies this year, we can declare of winner of the bet. Deal?

---

Also, I think you underestimate the power of these established franchises, like Shrek or Harry Potter. I mean, these are some of the most successful movie franchises ever. And in all honesty, I can even see FF2 beating Transformers. I just don't see Transformers being that huge of a movie. But these franchises are the ones that are going to be getting all the attention this year, more so than Transformers. That's why I can't see it beating out a movie like Shrek 3 or Harry Potter 5.
