Spider-Man: Brand New Day General News and Discussion Thread

Given what the MCU appears to be doing, my faith we will get that lower stakes MCU Spider-Man 5 is low. Either Sony or Marvel are going to get desperate at the next hiccup and force more of this crap upon us.

That's my concern, given that a Spiderman 5 would likely be 2028 at the earliest , though more likely 2029 or 2030.

That's a heck of a wait for a smaller stakes Spiderman story , and that's presuming that's where Sony and Marvel will want to go with a fifth film, by that point.

That's also presuming Marvel and Sony will want a smaller stakes Spider-Man movie and not another one of these Multiverse garbage nonsense things

I suspect Spiderman 5, will be lower stakes post SW when the MCU is "reset " .
But again, that's what I suspect.

But , ultimately ,It will depend on how the audience responds to SW , i.e. if they eat it up Box Office wise, or if audiences are done with the Multiverse stuff post SW.
At the end of the day , that's what the studios are going to react to .

So, even though the intention right now, may be , " We'll do a grounded Kingpin / Daredevil Spiderman film post SW .", things happen, and plans change, so there's no guarantee come 2028,
that Marvel and Sony will desire to go that route for Spiderman 5.

I hope they do , but , this is Hollywood.
Dang, 2028. That's a long time from now. That'll also be the 20th anniversary of the MCU.

I've been waiting for Spider-Man/Daredevil teamup since 2015. It's been almost 10 years since then. We got one scene with Matt Murdock and Peter Parker together, a delayed Daredevil show, and the prosperity of the MCU itself's future just seems uncertain.

You're right, this is Hollywood...by 2028 I would have expected the MCU to have Peter Parker pass the baton to Miles Morales. I don't want to wait another 4 years just for Spider-Man + Daredevil

And that's the other unknown factor : Will Holland be willing to stick around for Spiderman 5 & 6, or , will he have three more Spiderman appearance( Avengers: Doomsday, Spiderman 4, and Avengers Secret Wars) , and be done with the role after 2027?

Alot of fans seem confident he's gonna do a bunch more Spiderman films after SW, but I'm not taking that for granted.

Holland's still a pretty young guy, so I wouldn't be surprised if he wanted to stick around. Alternatively, if there were, say, a jump forward in time and the studios recast with a slightly older actor to show the passage of time, especially if the MCU goes through any sort of soft-reboot, I would not be opposed to that.

For me ,the question isn't his age . The question is whether he'll want to keep doing more appearances as Spiderman after Secret Wars.

As much as fans may want him to keep playing the role well into his 30s , it's not a given he'll want to, after the next four years.

So , I don't see it as a guarantee at all , though , they may pass the Spiderman torch to Miles Morales anyway , Post Secret Wars.

So, alot is up in the air imo in terms of what Spiderman 5 or Spiderman 6 will look like.

Article is slightly related in that Watts thinks you can't replicate NWH.

“That was such a specific moment in time, and the reaction to that movie was just so unbelievable,” remembers Watts. It was at this point that the director came to the realization: “It’s never going to be like this, ever again.”

Hmm I'd rather see they move on to a Spider-Woman movie than have Tom Holland pass the baton to someone else that would obviously take his superhero name. We already saw that in Spider-Man: Miles Morales videogame. And the Spider-Verse movies are out there.

The MCU already has too much of these type of characters who take someone's codename/look.

-Iron Heart
-Red Hulk/Skaar/She-Hulk (very reminiscent of Hulk)
-Jane Foster as Thor (she died but it still counts)
-Sam Wilson
-Yelena (especially if they called her Black Widow in the new movie)
-Kate Bishop
-Shuri
-Kamala Khan
-X-23 (not yet called as Wolverine in the movies, but she's still a legacy character)
-Blade's daughter is also rumoured to take Blade's mantle in the upcoming solo movie
-I'm also dreading the thought of a Young Avengers movie made up of legacy characters...

With Spider-Woman, she would obviously be seen as the female counterpart of the Spider-Man, but she's not really that heavily connected to Peter Parker unless they do that in the movies.

Which is why they shouldn't do that. A Spider-Woman movie is not a substitute for a Spider-Man movie because they really have nothing to do with each other. At least a Miles led movie checks off the same boxes that a Peter led movie would.

I thought Amy Pascal has hinted that we're eventually going to get a live action Miles Morales Spiderman anyway .

Whether or not that version shows up in The MCU or not is still speculation and rumor at this point, but I think we'll eventually see the character , regardless.

Probably can skip the Graduation storyline; I’d rather just see a post-grad Peter navigating young adulthood. But this is of course what I want.

I’d have Scoripon part of Kingpin’s Enforcers, which includes Ox, Fancy Dan & the reintroduction of Donald Glover as Aaron Davis / Prowler (to set up Miles Morales).

Well they don't have a lot options anyway.

A Miles Morales live action movie wouldn't be surprising since we already have a Miles Morales videogame and the Spider-Verse film trilogy.

But what I'm hoping for is, Sony makes a deal with Marvel Studios to do a Spider-Woman live action movie. Marvel is still lacking in female-led superhero films and we aren't getting a new one anytime soon.

I mentioned to you the other day that Marvel and Sony share the rights for Spider-Woman. So Marvel can make a project about her without Sony's involvement if they really wanted to, albeit with some restrictions.

What are the restrictions?
From the 2014 Sony leaks

'Jessica Drew' and specifically listed related characters. [Sony Pictures] may depict Jessica Drew as Spider-Woman, and Marvel may only use her without any Spider-Man-related elements.

So Marvel can't call her Spider-Woman and can't have her wear the costume?

From what I read from the Screen rant article I just googled. They cannot use the term Spider-Woman for a movie.

So if I'm not mistaken, they would need to cooperate with each other for a proper Spider-Woman live action adaptation. I think Sony could technically do a Spider-Woman movie without Marvel Studios, but I don't trust Sony with that.

If all we are destined to get anymore is bad Sony movies and multiverse crap, then I honestly don't care what Sony wants to do at this point. I am already over it. To get me to care again, we need to get Spider-Man out of the multiverse crap.

So you did read my post from the other day but acted like you didn't? I truly don't understand you lol.

Spider-Man 2 is still king of the throne and none of these recent movies come close to having the emotional resonance and character depth of that film. By the sound of it we won't get another Spidey film like that anytime soon either. Just more multiverse crap where we'll see him team up with 4 other Spider-Men taking on 27 villains with cameos from everyone and their grandma.

if everything else was continuing the way it already was, then I think the next trilogy would have definitely passed the baton to Miles.

Spider-Verse 2 brought Prowler back, so maybe Miles could have gotten introduced in Spider-Man 4 (maybe even bitten), then Spider-Man 5 is the start of a mentoring of Peter to Miles, and then 6 ends with Peter getting killed off (if Sony & Disney are brave enough for that) making Miles New York's one & only Spider-Man.

it definitely cannot be replicated now because that's what the last movie was. but if they give it enough time, then yes a proper live action Spider-Verse movie could definitely be well received. I just don't see it happening now.
