Spider-Man: Brand New Day General News and Discussion Thread

To be honest, I don't think I would have cared much if Watts stuck around or not. I think he did fine directing the MCU Spider-Man trilogy, but I would've been fine if they said anytime between 2017 to 2021 if they were switching directors.

Anyone want to bet they’re forgoing a Shang-Chi sequel (for now) and will have him co-starring with Spider-Man in this (ala Doctor Strange in the last one).

nobody is gonna believe anything that he does ever again.

just heard about this too. what's on his resume?
Well, there's Shang-Chi which, not the martial arts epic that many made it out to be, but is pretty good for an MCU origin film (It's not bad. I've just seen better martial arts films, which many tried to compare this with).

And apparently he's involved with Wonder Man? Also, would not be surprised to see Shang-Chi pop up in some capacity here. But I assume this means that Cretton is doing this before Naruto.

other than the third act, I liked Shang Chi a lot.

Wonder what this means for Shang-Chi 2 if true

The article mentions he's still attached but at this point I doubt he will be. I can't see them pushing out a sequel longer than they already have. At the very least, I'd hope they still move forward to it and Dustin remains as a producer.

But as far as director picks though, I really do like this choice.

I think he is a good choice, but they lose me on the concept regardless of director if this ends up being that rumored multiverse garbage idea. If this is a DD/Kingpin movie, that's amazing considering the fight scenes in Shang-Chi were chef's kiss. But if it's the other thing....I won't enjoy it regardless lol!

Also noticed this in the article
Sources say that Spider-Man 4 is running, not crawling, full steam ahead and will shoot early next year.
So 2026 release maybe?

I liked Shang Chi , but the choice doesn't excite me all that much.

Then again, with the film in all likelihood ,being a Multiverse romp anyway, it's harder for me to be as pumped ,as I would be for a street level Spiderman film.

Including the third act, i loved it

Hope that, if this does delay SC2, Shang plays a good role in the film
I personally didn't like how the third act took the film to another level of stake + CGI. it would have been refreshing to have an MCU film less focused on spectacle and more on grounded action + characters, but that's just my opinion.

maybe we'll Shang Chi teaching Peter The way of the Spider. that's how it happened in the comics, right?

As someone who enjoys but also isn’t hugely invested in Spider-Man, I do hope that the multiverse rumors are false. We’re already sure to be getting Spidey in the next two Avengers films. Just let the man have a fun, low-key solo adventure.

Surely Marvel and Sony remember that those once existed for the character.

I really don't understand the fear this means we won't get Shang-Chi 2, I mean if Marvel is working with Cretton for two more projects, and had enough confidence in him to give him Avengers 5(before plans changed) clearly they trust him and liked what he did, and if they were that impressed by his work with Shang-Chi it wouldn't make sense to not do a sequel to that movie.

Just occurred to me that Bill Pope could be returning to shoot Spidey:wow:

This does nothing for me. I'm at the point where I'll get excited about Spidey on film again when a reboot is announced.

Probably because it’s been three years since that movie and it’s been damn near crickets ever since.

The only thing that disappoints me about this is that it likely means Shang-Chi 2 gets pushed backed. I'm honestly concerned the character has lost momentum with how long it has been since we last saw him.

I hope that too but all of the evidence is pointing towards it.

I don't think Marvel has a problem with doing a street level Spider-Man movie. Its Sony that wants the multiverse stuff because of the success of No Way Home and definitely after the success of Deadpool & Wolverine.
