I’m actually becoming more and more interested in this.
As nice as it would be to have a full on solo Spider-Man film, from a little research I’ve done over the years, some of his other best and memorable moments in comics were when he interacted or met with other heroes, either through other characters entering into his world or him entering into theirs. Fantastic Four (namely Johnny Storm/The Human Torch), Wolverine, Captain America, etc. I mean, Spider-Man TAS, one of the most well regarded Spider-Man cartoons, has quite a few instances of other characters dropping in to his stories every so often. It’s not completely unprecedented.
Also, him interacting with all of the villains and the other Peter Parkers/Spider-Men was considered pretty unanimously by a lot of people to be one of the best parts of No Way Home. And, while it did come about as the result of a gimmick, the filmmakers didn’t just rest on that and did use it to pretty decent effect to help feed into MCU Peter’s story. It seems like Brand New Day film is just extrapolating that concept over an entire film, minus the Multiverse angle and taking a more grounded approach, which is kind of something that’s already been done in his comics before anyway.
I expect Zendaya’s role to be small until she remembers Peter. There’s no point in giving her something substantial to do when she has no idea who Peter Parker is and no reason for her to care. If it were up to me I wouldn’t undue the spell for a couple of Spider-Man movies…wait for the finale to complicate things if you’re gonna undue it.
From some of the rumors that I read, I’m pretty sure this is the case.
I imagine maybe the next film is when they’ll probably start increasing her role and bring her back a bit more to the forefront as she becomes more involved in Peter’s life again, either through small interactions or possibly her unconsciously breaking the memory spell somehow.
Having Frank Castle/The Punisher in this film is also a nice way to plant the seeds of and bring out that darkness that could be further explored in Spider-Man 5 with him in the black Symbiote suit dishing out justice with more brutal, ruthless and violent methods due to his unstable emotional state. Movie 5 could then bring in Matt Murdock/Daredevil as a voice of reason and conscience to help bring Peter back from the drink and help show and teach him how to balance his civilian life and superhero activities.
If you’re going to have crossovers and bring in other heroes, actually using them in the story as a way to feed into Peter’s character arc and not just for the sake of it or solely as fan service is a good way to do it.
