Spider-Man/Daredevil/Punisher "The Omega Effect"

Jesus, its as though every day they announce another crossover event. I'm already having to pick up The Amazing Spider-Man as punishment for reading Daredevil (not that I mind, I enjoy the two together) and now I might have to pick up two other titles in April? I guess I'll wait and see if previews are appealing.

I wouldn't call it an event. It's only 3 issues going through Avenging Spider-Man, DD and Punisher. It's an old fashion cross-over.

True, its not an event, but I'm just frustrated with having to buy extra issue and not being able to read certain titles because they get swept up in big events that I don't want to read. For instance, Rick Remender's Secret Avengers run is sounding interesting to me but I'm probably gonna have to drop it for a few issues if the tie in to Avengers vs. X-Men in any substantial way that makes me need to get that book to know whats going on.

To be fair, Punisher and DD need the boost. They're both wonderful books that people just aren't reading. If they need to raise the profile a little bit like this then so be it.

I guess I can see your point. I love Daredevil's current book and I don't read Punisher but I'm a fan of Rucka's DC work and he's a great writer worthy of success.

Avenging Spider-Man, you say? Cool, that's the one Spider-Man comic I actually buy anyway, so I won't have to ditch Punisher and another issue of Daredevil to avoid this. Stupid Black Cat, robbing me of my Daredevil this month. :argh:

The only one I'm not reading is Punisher currently but I'll definitely be getting all 3 books for this crossover. Sounds real cool.

Punisher has been quite good SPidey 62. Give it a shot, you wont regret it.

Just don't expect it to be all Frank all the time. It focuses more on the people around Frank and treats him more like a bogeyman lurking in the shadows. But it is definitely a great read.

Is Avenging Spider-Man worthwhile at all? It looked like it might be fun but I never got around to getting the first issue.

It's been good so far. Zeb Wells writes Spider-Man really well (he's one of the few to make Peter genuinely funny), and I really like the idea of a series that focuses on Spider-Man's interactions with his fellow Avengers. He and Ross make a pretty fun odd couple so far, and then we get to see Spidey and Hawkeye try to out-smartass each other later on. If it were monthly instead of every two months, it'd be aces.

I might have to check it out. I haven't read 616 Spider-Man since OMD, I've actually been reading less and less Marvel monthlies for years now (I'm down to Daredevil and Uncanny X-Force, and fell behind on Journey Into Mystery) and am looking at maybe picking up a couple more, plus I just miss reading a Spider-Man book.

I hadn't read any Spider-Man comics since "OMD" either before Avenging.

Might just pick up Avenging and Punisher for this.Waid's Daredevil has been great.

Looks like I made the right call dropping DD. I agonized over it because I needed to cut costs and hated the idea of buying Amazing Spider-Man for an issue to crossover with it. Now I'd have to buy an issue of Avenging Spider-Man and Punisher to continue the story. Glad I dodged that bullet.

Hmm, sounds interesting but I prefer DD remaining in his own bubble. Already he's having a team up and now in the coming months another? Should've seen this coming after he obtained the disk. We'll see...

Above is a link to a new Marvel crossover event featuring Spider-Man, Daredevil, and Punisher. The art looks pretty cool, especially the teaser image.

I'm of two minds about this. On the one hand, it is annoying feeling pressured to buy issues of comics I don't read, namely AVENGING SPIDER-MAN and PUNISHER. It creates a situation where fans will either buy all of it or none of it, which isn't always helpful. Coming off of February's spam of VENOM, this is especially annoying. I suppose January's brief crossover between ASM and DD counts, although I read both anyway so it doesn't matter much to me.

On the other hand, "importance" is something that Marvel has insisted is the key reason to buy certain books over others, and it is difficult to make a storyline seem that way without some sort of crossover promotion. DAREDEVIL is selling at some 2-3 year lows despite the relaunch and critical buzz, and PUNISHER is fading fast. AVENGING SPIDER-MAN has debuted well, but once Joe Mad isn't the artist, it is hard telling how well it will do. Throwing in chips behind a book after one good debut bit them with ALPHA FLIGHT. However, at the very least it may encourage some readers of the superior selling AVENGING SPIDER-MAN to try out two lessor titles. And since the "Omega Drive" that DD obtained really SHOULD be a big deal, I suppose you could argue this is a case of Marvel living up to that by including Spider-Man and Punisher - even if it is Spidey's "spare" team-up title.
