World Spider-Man: DTV animated series

I bet they will use Sandman as the first villain in this series, since he wasn't in the 90's cartoon, and because he is the main villain in the third movie.

They're promoting their best-known properties b/c they know those will have an audience. And it's not like other characters haven't been given their shot. Do you want WB to stop putting out cartoons w/Batman & Superman? I say, build an audience w/your big guns, then work on the second-stringers.
as a business man, instead of going for a clear sale, i would be trying to advertise my other products to get them into the main stream as well so that i would have a larger overall market rather than a monumental few. It's not like marvel don't have plenty of stories to tell with other characters....

and yeah, actually i think for the same reason that they should chill with the bats and superman cartoons as well,i would love to have some green latern cartoons and i liked the fact they brought teen titans into the mix as well as static shock as well as fleshing out other characters with the justice league unlimited.

I mean the avengers, biggest affiliation in marvel don't even have their own modern day cartoon series (not the ultimates which has overtaken them), how pathetic is that.

I honestly don't want another take again on spidey in modern times with a modern version of his story being told. i feel like it happens every five years (if that).

let's have some thor, iron man, luck and cage, namor, maybe an age of apocalypse animated series, some captain america, DAREDEVIL FOR THE LOVE OF GOD.

so many characters are being neglected, heck even the spidey we are viewing is an outdated character from the 60s rehashed for modern times, the spideys we are seeing these days isn't even a reflection of the character that is in the comics now. If they really wanted to help their business they would be portraying a similar style to modern times, just like they did with the animated 90s series at the time releasing similar story lines to those that were coming out in the comics (clone saga, spider-carnage), but it isn't going to happen, they'll start from the beginning again (again (again)).

i say give up the ghost.

This is great news, but only if:

1. This new series is not Ultimate Spider-Man. An updated Spidey is OK, but the actual Ultimate universe has too many quirks (eg: monster Green Goblin, clone Carnage, Pete dating Kitty Pryde) that don't belong in a Spidey cartoon.

2. This new series is not related to the 2003 MTV Spidey series. There were some creative ideas in that series, but it suffered because of the network's target audience and poor writing.

3. This new series isn't directly limited by what's happened in the movies or in the recent comics. Although the character design and storylines could tie in with the movies, there shouldn't be a concrete connection. So if Pete and MJ get married in the SM3 movie, this should NOT be the case in the new animated series. Likewise, since Spidey has revealed his secret identity in the comics, this obviously should not be part of the new series either.
-And how about bringing back the mechanical webshooters while we're at it?

4. The direct-to-DVD format should be used to deliver a more mature, yet not pretentiously "edgy" storyline. Hopefully the animation art quality will be much higher than what's been seen on the recent Ultimate Avengers 2 DVD.

So there's the challenge - let's see if they're up to it.

Um, Marvel did have a big run of cartoons in the '90s. They had X-Men, then Spider-Man, Fantastic Four, Iron Man and Hulk and they even made a pilot to a more mature (teens and up) DAredevil cartoon after his spot on the Spider-Man TAS but Fox didn't pick it up. They then did Silver Surfer and an Avengers cartoon (which was attrotious btw) and the lousy Spidey Unlimited.

So no they just don't do Spider-Man and X-Men cartoons but of all those....which were the ones that stuck? Spider-Man and X-Men, FF and Iron Man faded into oblivion, Hulk only did okay and was yanked after 2 seasons as well and Avengers just plain bombed which in turn killed Silver Surfer.

Marvel turned its attention to movies and since then we've had a lousy X-Men cartoon (X-Men: Evolution) and a lousy Spider-Man cartoon (MTV) neither of which lasted long (Evolution 3 seasons, MTV one measley season) so now after the movies are hits they're going back.

I think it would be great to get a new Spider-Man animated series on Cartoon Network, maybe adult swim (though not too mature just allow a little cursing, sexual tension possibly, PUNCHING) and just try and a straight adaptation of the Spidey timeline from origin, to Gwen Stacy dying, to the rest of the whole shabang.

If that succeeds maybe then they can try edgier stuff for adult swim, like a dark Frank Miller-esque DD show.

We'll see though.

this will get its own sub form one day, if we post enough about it.

I think they should do an online poll to choose the voice of Spidey/PP

or... bette ryet

Get barnes to do it again!!!!

Yeah he was much better than Riney....or....Dougey HOwser (oy, who coulda' thought that was a good idea), really.

the dude that did unlimited is voice batman now anyway....

Yeah, and yet again inferior to the '90s TAS voicing counterpart then.

I'd love to see animated versions of...

the original Hobgoblin storyline from ASM 238-251

ASM 216-217(I think) Sandman vs Hydroman

pg-13 rated versions of Carnage, the Punisher and Morbius.

ASM Annual 20 Scorpion vs JJJ on Jameson's wedding day

hopefully other comic book classics villians...
(namely)
Doc Ock
Venom
Mysterio
the Vulture
Electro
Kraven the Hunter
The Lizard
Chameleon
Black Cat
Rhino
Shocker
Kingpin(not as much as on the 90's series though)

I'm trying to think of newer villians and stories that I particularly want to see.

This does sound interesting, i'll make sure to check it out.

I hope this isn't rushed like that first ultimate avenger movie. But 2 was good.

dude, i'm pretty sick of spidey being everywhere i go, especially where there are classic heroes that never get any type of shot.

they need to lay off the cliche, spidey, x-men, fantastic four and hulk based cartoons and move on to something else, at least for a while...

The reason why they dont do what you would want them to do is because, the spideys, hulks and x-men are the most iconic front runners and the most recognisable that bring in viewers and ultimately the cheddar.

Take heart;

Fantastic Four, Iron Man, and Wolverine are all currently on the way.

This would be good but I'm affraid they're going to overuse certain characters. Green Goblin isn't that cool. Not at all. In fact, Chameleon was spidey's first villain....Not GG. So if anyone in spidey's history have a longer past with him it would be Chameleon.

I think the first few villains should be those we hardly ever see in tv and stuff. It should be Kraven, chameleon, etc....

Then afterwards we should start to see venom and hobgoblin..people like that.

The animation should be smooth and pleasing to the eyes. If it looks like Ultimate Avengers...I'm not watching it. Because that just looks like GI Joe with photoshop. The art just looks so bad. And I don't want it to look like justice league either, because I think it should have an original design. So no Teen Titans or whatever...just look like itself.

As for voices, if it's 616 spidey then they should bring back Christopher Daniel Barnes.

If it's ultimate then the kid from the game...

Bruce Campbell should do some kind of cameo.

For someone who is seeing so much spidey, you're not helping it by coming to a spidey "world" board.

1-I'm not so sure he's the main villain.
2-it's Cameron's fault we never saw Baker in the 90's; Fox was told they couldn't use him b/c he was to be a major player in the movie that never happened.

Glad to hear that a new Spider-Man series is finally in the works, although I'm very curious as to whether Sony is going to connect it to the films (much like the failed MTV version) or go the route of Ultimate now that the Avengers cartoons have been released.

In any case, it'll be nice to have all the episodes on a single DVD. :)

I hope they finish Spider-Man Unlimited, that would kick ass. Or maybe the 94-98 series.

Or make an entire new show using his Ultimate look and the same art style as in the Ultimate Spider-Man video game.

If Sony had any sense, they'd snatch up Bruce Timm, who just finished up the excellent Justice league cartoon.

They should just hand the show completely over to HIM, and let him go totally ape-****, like he did with Batman: TAS....i think with Timm in charge of a new Spidey toon, the 90's series would quickly become a distant memory.

Anyway, as long as it's not an adaption of the Ultimate version, i'll probably check it out.

Took the words right out of my mouth!
Batman TAS was the best superhero cartoon and he would kick all sorts of ass on a spidey toon. At least we'd actually see spidey throw a punch once in a while.

yeah im not uh, too thrilled about the unlimited series either....

but this DTV series has the potential of being great, because its not limited in any way.

It would be cool to have cuss words in it, blood, actual fights,

it has a chance because its not limited by television
