Josh Keaton's voicing it?
Now it has me looking forward to it. I don't think I'd mind if it is a free-roam game. I'm almost missing one like that for Spidey for PS3.

Josh Keaton returning is great news!

I've never read a 2099 comic book so I have no opinion about Peter David. However, I really hope this is not a 2099 game. I want to battle 616 Green Goblin goddammit!

What do you guys think the odds are that it's free roam? I have my fingers crossed. Imagine, and open world Spider-Man game with Josh Keaton voicing him. :spidey:

They might go with a level based game like SD, but I'd prefer an open world game. I used to play Spider-Man 2 years after its release, just swinging around. I also hope that it's not a Spider-Man 2099 game.

Same here.
Because the swinging is the best one so far, it was just so fun to put the game and swing around.

Didn't Beenox last autumn hint something about freeroam? Saying something about freeroam not taking up as much space as people think? I don't know if I remember it correctly though.

However, with the little time that they've got to make the game, and due to the positive reviews of Shattered Dimensions, I doubt it will be freeroam.

Im thinking the same thing. I have a funny feeling we are gonna get another SD, or at least a game that plays extremely similar to it.

Agreed. I have my fingers crossed for this. S-M2, IMO, still remains the best Spider-Man game.

Yeah, I think they'll go for the extremely similar one. I don't think (and I hope I'm right) that this will be a direct sequel. I don't think it's enough interest among the fans for that.

One thing that we've learned about Beenox is that they really look around for what fans want. Alot of stuff that fans wanted or demanded after WoS got into SD. Better voice-actors, levels instead of free roam, character bios and figures, extra costumes, more and better bosses, comic references etc. Beenox did all of that.

And now, they've even asked us what bosses we most want to battle. Which also makes me feel that Green Goblin will most likely have a big part in this game.

They've read forums for sure, I think. And if they have, I think they know that most fans seem to want a proper 616 game with classic Green Goblin, Doc Ock etc.

So, I think this game will be very similar to SD in terms of gameplay. It will probably have a mixture of Noir's stealth and the more direct action from the other dimensions. I also think it will have the same graphics as the Amazing dimension (which I hope not). They simply don't have time for a new free roam game I think. However, this time they'll probably focus more on making a better and deeper story, keep things from SD with some tweaks to it and make it 100% 616.

I hope they'll not reuse Amazing Spider-Man's web mazes this time.

Yeah it will probably be linear. Free roam would be awesome but as said, one year isn't a lot of time to make one in. With that in mind I hope the game is level/chapter based 616 only so that we don't have to stare at a menu half of the time. It breaks the pace.

And man, I'll be a little bummed if it turns out to be another Ultimate game. One Spidey only is a good thing to, no having to assign certain gameplay aspects to certain characters.

You know, I thought I'd hate the webshapes in Amazing, but the only one that I really hated was the webfist at the end of the light combo. Even so, the Eight legged fury-attack made up for it.

I just got ahold of a copy of Shattered Dimensions for cheap from a closing Blockbuster.

I hope I'll enjoy it as I want a fun Superhero game to hold me over until Arkham City. I just want to play Spidey 2099.

A free roaming Spider-man game CAN be good, it just has to be done right.

Well, hopefully they can do justice with a free roam Spidey game, but, I will always have doubts until I see some proof of that, lol. If they can't do free roam right, then I prefer level-based like Shattered Dimensions. Might be a flawed Spider-Man game, but it's been the best Spider-Man game for the last ten years, imo.

And I hope it's not a 2099 game. That was my least favorite part of SD.

I am very much hoping for a Spectacular Spider-Man game, especially with Keaton being on board.

The Noir level alone will hold you over until AC, imo, mostly because it's a Spider-Man version of AA.

I played SD in a week or so and haven't felt much desire in playing it again tbh. It's so lacking of variety that you'll probably get bored too in a pretty short time once you've clear all the levels. But you'll still enjoy it while you're at it I think. The boss battles are neat.

A Spectacular Spider-Man game without Greg Weisman involved would just be wrong.

I just love that Josh Keaton is doing Spider-Man for this game. He is probably the only one/one of very very few that have gotten Spidey's comedic timing right. A lot of the VA's have been great but IMO Josh is the only one who naturally sounds like Spider-Man when he quips.

Agreed. He's probably too busy with Young Justice, but he's mentioned he would like the opportunity to script a video game. Shame too, we could have gotten a continuation from season two in this.

This is cool news, interesting that Peter David is writing the story this time around. Makes you wonder if there will be more Spidey 2099.

Him and Chris Barnes.

Yeah I guess he's good to, I watched the show translated to swedish as a kid, and any attempt to watch it now is just painful. It hasn't aged all to gracefully. So I don't have as much attachment to CDB as some do.

Altho, I will say that I think Sean Marquette also delivered the lines in a convincing way in USM.

Haha I agree with this, the Swedish voice actor in TAS is pretty painful to listen to today. He basically whispers everything almost.

I hope it's not another game aimed at kids like "Friend or Foe"... that'd just be a huge disappointment. :'\

I think it's safe to say it will not. They wouldn't have gotten Peter David to write otherwise.

I've been playing spider-man 2 again after setting up my xbox. One thing I keep on thinking about is the button for webs. Not the swinging button, but the combat web firing. Sometimes it feels so **** just pressing that button, other times I feel like they should get rid of it al together and just make it part of combos. What do you guys think?

Also what ar your thoughts on having 2 web swinging triggers? Would that make it any different considering you could fire the webs in a different style. I mean you could use a 2 web swing system or stick to a single web swing like normal. Or it could be used for dodging oncoming attacks by shifting weighting with 2 webs.

Spiderman 2 holds a very special place in my heart. I was just getting back into video games since probably NES, and I didn't even own one. The Xbox was a Christmas gift that I didn't even ask for.

So I hadn't even played any of the GTA's and didn't really know much about them. Hulk and The Hobbit came with the Xbox, I picked up the first Spiderman movie game not long after. I enjoyed Hulk and Spiderman, but that was really the only type of game experience I knew of. I did know that while playing Spiderman, I'd be swinging around the Chrysler building...webline connected to nothing and just mindless of physics, looking out around the city and wanting to swing to it only to be turned away by an invisible wall. Why couldn't they make a game like that?

So when the details of Spiderman 2 came out, I was skeptical. I figured it would be watered down somehow. Of course, you have those who will argue it was...but to me, once the opening training passed and the invisible walls were removed.... I was captivated. It was exhilarating learning to web-swing.. just making progress from bumbling around swinging into walls to handling it in a skilled athletic manner. It's the only game, not just free roam game, that I have played through the story mode probably 5 times or so.

Because of SM2, I went and rented San Andreas when it was released for the XBox. I was researching more and more and obviously it all lead back to GTA. That was orgasmic. I was in fits of laughter when after trying to have Karl ride a bike I found myself getting shot at, panicing, jumping into a car and then accidentally mowing down the shooter. This is what I had been looking for. The downside... the glaring deficiencies in SM2 in comparison. I needed more....

I've snapped up each subsequent free-roam release. Ultimate was a short and sweet ride, but had no holding power. SM3 was a let down. Story-mode was somewhat excruciating and the free-roam didn't take it as far as I'd hoped. Web of Shadows I enjoyed. It gave a different NYC experience with it being a disaster zone, plenty of details to explore and discover. I personally thought the controls were nicely done and up there with Hulk:UD. It was unfortunately not finished.

I rented Shattered and didn't play it very far. I didn't care for being back in a restrictive world and I prefered Arkham Asylum for the sort of game-play they presented. It's the first Spidey game I haven't owned since SM2.

Open World Spidey games shouldn't be negotiable, they should be the rule. They aren't the problem. It's the quality of the game within the open world. I know what I want from an open world Spiderman game and I have yet to see it done. They do need to be looking at the life you find in the worlds of Red Dead and True Crime. They need to be creative rather than cookie cutter events (the gangs in SM3 for example) to fill it with. I'd rather be surprised than know if I go to this marker in the sky, something will set in motion story-wise. I'd rather be helping the cops one moment, the next I'm swinging down the block when a wormhole of some sort opens up and sucks me in..taking me to some unknown universe (ala the Beyonder.)

Look at Arkham Asylum. No, it wasn't true Open World, but it could have been with the much of the same model intact. The hallucination sequences were some of the best game moments in any game, hands down. They came when you leasted expected it and they happened fluidly. It wasn't about going to some marker in the sky to start an event. This is the kind of thing they need to explore in Spidey open world games to make it exciting again.
