Spider-Man: Edge of Time

You know, it's been said that Sucker Punch did what free-roam Spider-Man games wish they did when they created inFAMOUS.

They took a free-roam city, added damage and people EVERYWHERE. What you do in that world really DOES matter. It's not just main choices from the game, what you do while you're not on a mission also makes a difference. You could be chasing a gang member or fighting a boss...but if you cause damage and kill people your meter becomes less Heroic and, over time, your abilities begin to change to go with your morality rating.

This is how Web of Shadows should have been or maybe what Shaba Games was trying to go for.

It's actually really disheartening that people on Facebook seem to prefer the WoS voice actor to NPH. They said that WoS was a LOT better than SM:SD even. This really worries me as their ideas are the only ones I've heard there. =/

WTF!!!! Really!?!?!?! NPH sounds way better than whoever did his voice on WoS, he sounded too much like a *****. :cmad:

That's... horrifying. Seriously, I hope the VIP surveys are preferred over...this.

And yeah, much agreed with Sucker Punch. The thing is, though, is that it took them almost five years to make that game, and people even started to believe it was canceled. A LOT of work and effort went into it, and even THEN, most of the city is rather small and too destroyed for a Spidey game. I mean, I liked the three islands and all, but it would be kinda disappointing to play as Spidey in those small environments.

Not to mention that the "perfect" Spidey game would require several years of work and tons of resources. As I've said multiple time, this is not possible as long as Activision has the license. As long as they continue to half-ass every Spidey game out there, we're not going to get a game as good as InFamous.

When it was announced that NPH won Best Male Actor at the VMAs for SM:SD, people complained that he didn't deserve it. Not because "he's not good" but "WoS was MUCH better!" There were maybe two people saying that SM:SD was better than WoS, but the majority said that WoS is a better game than SM:SD.

This worries me because Activision is starting to listen to places like Twitter and Facebook for their inspiration for games along with those surveys.

People still want a WoS 2 even with MORE symbiotes. It's just...really, really irritating that these are the people that will be heard the most. =/ Yes, they'll use the surveys but Activision seems to be trying to branch out to Facebook and Twitter for inspirations too. Now that's not bad but let's hope the surveys hold more weight since they're VIP with an invite to even take them and Facebook and Twitter are more public.

Yea, I do agree that it would be small for Spider-Man but it's good for Cole. He doesn't really swing around or move fast. He's more about parkour (kind of like Assassin's Creed's parkour just with electricity thrown in for that superhero feel).

Spidey would need a city that is just as detailed as Cole's but bigger. I think that, if a Spidey game took five years we'd get an amazing game though. Well, even better than SM:SD and TONS better than WoS ever was.

That's why I say it needed the scale and detail of Liberty City, the amount of detail that went into that is amazing, the scale was just right, wasn't extremely big, and it wasnt super small. Since Activision has the rights to Spider-Man and we have this upcoming game plus the reboot film coming out, that means there is gonna be very little time for them to give the game the proper amount of attention and give it a lasting appeal. At times, it feels like Activision saw the success in the SM2 game and decided to milk the hell out of it, now it's gotten to a point where the open world games dont offer much freedom, you're only allowed to swing all over the place and do the same random crime missions followed by swing challenges, and what was even more a kick to the nuts, WoS didn't even have THAT once you beat it, that's awful.

I can see making the sprint button into something kinda what you described. Like instead of stopping dead/running into (in classic video game manner) a roof fan, holding the sprint button would make you leap over it, like in AC. Is that what you mean, because in that case it would be useful.

That what I'm talking about. You have said it perfectly. Keep the movements and animations fluid going from web swinging and rolling into a run and leaping off a building and running down the side and leaping off into another web swing. All done by holding the left trigger. Of course you would have to be using the analog stick to move and other buttons to jump and web swing, but one main trigger to preform the agile moves and fluid nature of Spider-Man.

The thing with InFamous though is the reason the city looks so good is because msot of the city is, from memory, 8 story builds and less. Its smaller and more detailed because the city has been made for the game. its also whatever and however they wanted the city to look like.

Spider-Man on the other hand is based in New York City. Now I've never been myself as I live in australia, but my brother recently got back from New York City and video taped the whole experience. The place is ****ing massive. Height wise too. So I agree with Alchemyst in the the size of Liberty City GTA 4 would be perfect. Detailed and big enough for Spider-Man to have some fun in.

Problems at one end of the map would take some time to get to, but not too long. Maybe sometimes it would just be easier to slingshot over large distances, and not how spider-man 3 had it only on 2 buildings, im talking whenever you want. I also want some serious height in this game. free falling from the top of the empire state building and firing off a web at the last second would just blow my mind :)

And for those who have been to New York City, are the streets always so clean? the footage my brother filmed while there, the place looked so clean. I mean there were cars all over the place, and people everywhere, but so clean.

Oh and lets make the city noisy too. the higher you get, the quieter it should get also.

This game will release next year though, the movie releases in 2012. This could be a comic-related game OR, maybe, a Spectacular Spider-Man game to give the show a "last hurrah" before the USM cartoon? Could even be a USM game to go with the 'toon.

HELL NO it's not that clean, paper and ****, pidgeons ****tin all over the place lol. I agree, the city needs to be loud and noisy, once again, comparing to GTA4, there was always activity going on in the streets and all the pedestrians were doing different things. Now whenever Spidey is swinging low to the ground, depending on how well of a standing he has with the citizens, they should react. If he has foiled crimes and defended people, some pedestrians should cheer, if he has been causing chaos, people should boo him, throw trash at him, and some citizens should even try to go hand to hand with him, IMO it's a good mechanic to give the player a sense of responsibility over the people that he has to protect.

Love those ideas. and i think the police should interact with Spider-Man too. If you are punching up people all over the place, the police should take a stand against you. helicopters and cars chase you. I mean the cars wont mean ****, but still to have them follow, that would be fun.

That's cool, I would say if the cops see him punching innocent people, they try and seize him, if you stand still, they attempt to arrest you, if you flee, that's when all hell breaks loose, squad cars chase you, and depending on how long you run from them, that's when they call in choppers and SWAT (I would leave SHIELD out of it). In an earlier post I stated that if you achieved a perfect combo without getting damaged, it takes a snapshot, these snapshots can be used to give to cops to clear your name. Each time you use one, it will take a larger amount to clear it the next time you run into trouble with the law, to keep it from being overused. It would be best to have a radius as to where cops are looking for you, they just cant chase you all over NYC. Changing out of costume should lose the wanted level, but it can only be done at Parker's apt, Aunt May's house, and maybe a few random alleys.

I like those ideas, but why not keep SHIELD in. The way I see it, if you keep pissing around, SHIELD will put you in your place. I mean imagine being taken away by SHIELD to their helicarrier and needing to escape from it.,,,,however, thats a massive nerd dream :)

Your idea for losing wanted level sounds interesting. Maybe it could be played into the fact that the pictures taken are looked at like Spider-Man doing good. A sort of proving the cops wrong if you will. And changing costumes should be in the game.

Actually that brings something to mind, why not make us keep our superhero identity secret?

Ok check this out then, you start off only dealing with cops if you happen to cause too much trouble, later on in the game you become allies with SHIELD, they tell you that any violent or criminal acts would result in retaliation from SHIELD and the NYPD has been instructed let them handle Spider-Man should he become uncontrollable.

My only reasoning for not originally wanting SHIELD in the game is because I wouldn't want people to be confused since all previous games had SHIELD as allies of SM

I can see why you wouldn't want SHIELD, but if explained correctly, it could work.

Whats your stand on other marvel characters being in the game? I'd personally like to see the Slingers appear.

I'm kinda iffy on it because IMO it makes it seem like the developers dont have faith that Spidey can carry the title by himself. Now, if they were to include other heroes, they need to play a significant role to the story and not just randomly pop up. I didn't like Wolverines appearance in WoS because it felt like he just HAPPENED to be there when the **** was hitting the fan.

yeah wolverine just felt like he was there because the developers felt he was a fan favorite and needed to add him in. pissed me off that **** game.

yeah, they gotta stop doing that ****. I dont care if you do have the rights to characters, that doesnt mean randomly throw them into a game because they're "fan favorites", I like Gambit, but I dont wanna see him in a Punisher game, or the Hulk. Put heroes where they need to be and have a reasonable backing for them being there.

Yeah, whenever I see crammed and forced super-hero appearances in a SPIDER-MAN game, I facepalm. One of the several wonderful things AA did was to focus on Batman's world as much as possible, with a couple of small, small nods to the DC universe. At least Juggernaut and Ultimate Deadpool in SD were justified with their history with Spidey, but even then, I would have rather fought two other actual Spidey villains.

Why do you guys want to punch civilians? Spider-Man would never do that and I personally want a game that stays close to the comic. There are numerous other games where you can destroy stuff so I don't even see the need for it to be in a Spider-Man game.

Because its a freedom Spider-Man game. We've never been able to punch or injury civilians in any game so far, and I believe it would add a greater challenge to the gameplay. Fighting random crimes, but making sure not to injure anyone else.

It just adds to the resoponsibility, and the I'm not saying in the heat of battle against enemies you can randomly punch civilians, the AI would be smart enough to stand back and scatter to avoid being caught in the crossfire.

A Spider-Man game as such could be good

WHAT? FOR REAL? WHAT PAGE?
So many things about Shattered Dimensions (major exception to the lack of free roam =/) is superior to Web of Puke, starting with Spider-Man voice actor

In Web of Barf you can toss cars on civilians and hurt them
Sometimes while fighting bad guys, some people pass by and get hit by Spider-Man in Ultimate Spider-Man

I think it would probably only detract from the enjoyment if you had to watch out for civilians. In Infamous its a chore trying to not hit pedestrians while playing as good Cole, it just means you can't go all out and thus have to be defensive in your play style. And that isn't fun.

By the way I don't want to make good/bad moral choices. Spidey is a character with a clear moral compass and him having ridicules choices like in WoS is a big no-no for me. Of course that doesn't meant you can't have choices at all, just that there shouldn't be a good and a bad choice.
