Spider-Man: Edge of Time

I think I can understand with what dtud means. Spider-Man wouldn't be "should I cause a riot or just take it on by myself??" but he WOULD be cautious to not hurt civilians.

I'd like a destructible city and the possibly of hurting innocents if you aren't careful. I mean is IS NYC which is pretty crowded...if a superhero and villain tarted duking it out right now in NYC, you know there'd be casualties. A true villain wouldn't give a crap about people around, they would go after Spider-Man regardless.

A Spider-Man game as such could be good

WHAT? FOR REAL? WHAT PAGE?
So many things about Shattered Dimensions (major exception to the lack of free roam =/) is superior to Web of Puke, starting with Spider-Man voice actor

Looks like it's grown a bit more towards the SD side but there are still some elements from WoS that could be thrown into this new game. It seems that it's not SM1 (N64/PS1/PC) / SM2 (PS2/GC/Xbox) vs SM:SD, it's WoS vs SM:SD for most.

Mostly because WoS was completely symbiote based and while a lot of people hate symbiotes, there are still some who want a sequel (42 people do on HHQ, 7 people don't) of it and want it to have symbiotes again.

As far as me personally, I wouldn't want them to have any symbiotes in the next game. They should focus on other villains for a while and let the demand for Venom, Carnage, and any other symbiote based villain build back up. In WoS, Venom pretty much spawned an army of symbiotes and eventually became a giant, multi-headed, version of himself, what more can you do after going to those extremes!?!?!?!

And thats why civilians should be able to be injured. You would really make to think about how you go into every battle. I mean with Spider-Man's agility and abilities, he would be able to handle any threat, but having to take into account an innocent person, now that would make for a seriously amazing game.

Totally agree with you. Keep symbiotes and Venom well and truly out. Seriously couldn't stand them in WoS or the fact that Ultimate Spider-Man wore the suit in SD.

true that, I would like to be able to go into battle with a plan that's more than just hitting the punch and kick buttons. I would like to stick to a wall and view the enemies and plot how I want to take them all down the quickest way. Previous Spidey games demanded you beat the hell out of them or web strike them to death, there is never really a time when you actually get the jump on your enemy. I always felt like Spider-Man always had an edge when fighting petty criminals, so he should always have the 1up on them ingame

It seems like Activision treats the black suit and Venom as their bread and butter, like the game "wont" be successful unless a symbiote is in it in some shape or form. If you keep milking the same villain, that downplays the chance to see other fan favorites take the floor.

Yeah i call the black suit/symbiotes lazy writing and game design.

Any more games featuring symbiotes and that's the type of moniker it's gonna start carrying as jus being cannon fodder due to lazy writing

I can understand the appeal of the symbiote suit, but lets try for a few years of no symbiotes. so many other great costumes Spider-Man has worn over the years.

As much as I surprisingly enjoyed the Carnage level in SD, I agree, let's get rid COMPLETELY of the symbiotes. While having Green Goblin and Doc Ock in the last game was an improvement (even being the main villains in their universes), we need one of them to take the role of THE main villain, especially Goblin.

To me it sounds like it's too much of a challenge for Activision to do that, they seem to overload anything a gamer takes a liking to. Call of Duty started gaining attention, Activision releases a new CoD game just about every year, same with Spider-Man, and other Marvel games. CoD games get progressively better (story wise), the Marvel games on the other hand stick to the same drink and 2 step. XML, XML2, MUA, and MUA2 all play the same, SM2,SM3,SM:WoS, and USM play the same, with SM: SD being the only that feels somewhat different

I feel the pain. They just really need to knuckle down and give us a Spider-Man game that people will play over and over again. Much like how the people being Batman AA spent time making the game, do the same with Spider-Man....and not make SD.

I still love the symbiote, the extra attention it gets is still sickening
One reason Spider-Man 3 (PC) is my favorite is the short use of the symbiote thing, only 10 out of 42 levels, and it's the first to actually give power to the symbiote
Spider-Man 2 is the second best to me, great that it has no symbiote

I admit that it would be fantastic to have a chase/escape battle against venom. I mean with him having the same abilities plus more, it would be heart pounding. However at the same time, they just need to retire symbiotic for a few years.

I skipped both Spider-Man 3 and Web of Shadows so I'm not that tired of symbiotes, still I could do without them. I mean, no one can argue that they haven't been used enough.

And to clear things up about the hurting civilians bit. I don't mean that civilians should be invincible, they should take damage from villains and thugs, because that would give the game some sense of urgency. What I mean is that you shouldn't be able to harm them, first of because Spider-Man don't do that, and second because if the AI isn't smart enough to get out of the way you would end up killing pedestrians all the time.

By the way, who do you guys want voicing Spider-Man in the game? My top choice would be Josh Keaton I think, NPH was great in SD but I just kept on hearing him and not Spider-Man. Of course I wouldn't complain if he got the part but whatever.

http://www.behindthevoiceactors.com/voice-compare/Spider-Man/Spider-Man/ Here are most of the VA's I think, Barnes, Keaton and Romano is in my top three at least. Although I really liked Sean Marquette in USM. There are links to some of Spidey's rouges in there to.

Barnes sucked. Like really badly. Romano too.

Keaton or Harris is the only voices that have really worked for me.

No they didn't suck, they're awesome
NPH is one of the best voices for Spidey, but I think he should voice Nightwing or Barry Allen more

Shattered Dimensions convinced me that Barnes is actually a good Spidey actor...he was just under a horrible voice director in the 90's show. Seriously, he was really good as Noir Spidey, but then again, they had the voice director from The Spectacular Spider-Man.

Overall, though, I still prefer Keaton.

Eh?? Barnes imo is the definitive spidey voice actor. His work for Noir was a departure from what he did in the 90s, mainly because the dialogue he had to work with wasn't "conventional" spidey.

That being said, NPH is awesome in everything he does BUT Josh Keaton imo is THE voice of spidey, he just nails it.

I'm gonna say NPH is one of the better voices for Spidey IMO

You never liked him as Spidey's voice in the 90s series?
Sniff, glad you finally liked him

I didn't. He came off as forced at times and overracted during the more dramatic times. Things like "SSHHOCCKEEEEEERRRRR!!!!" and "MMARRYYY JAAANE" are kinda hard to shake off, but his subtle, entertaining performance in the game helped convince me he's really a good actor.

They should improve the swinging mechanics, in all the linear Spider-Man games the swinging mechanics are off.
At least not all are as bad as the first movie game, the swinging in that game is a real pain in chase levels

Years pass, and I still find the Shocker scene hilarious

That's because the swinging in the linear games are just a means of getting from one platform to another as opposed to just jumping like in any other games. The freeroam games use it as a means of transportation. IMO I would just like for the physics to respond properly to him properly and not make him seem weightless. I think Spider-Man 2 got it right for the most part, so they can improve on those mechanics. And as for the first movie game's swinging, it wasn't that great not only because of the chases, but the fact that his web wasn't attaching to anything, it was just being suspended by thin air, so there was really no consequence in not being able to swing from something.

These guys need to take a look at Just Cause 2. They did a grapple hook that's alot more Spider-man than the kind of mechanics that we're used to getting in his games.

A mix between Arkham Asylum and Just Cause 2 would be just right. Arkham's storytelling and extreme faithfulness to the characters and Just Cause 2's mechanics and zany open world gameplay. F yea!
