Did any of you guys pick this up last week? It was pretty good.

It's got two new stories, two reprints, and a new Spider-Man Manga story, all for a mere $4.99 :cwink:

The first story is by Sean McKeever, whom i know has a bit of a following on these forums...it's set in the past and basically features the symbiote vs Sandman....

The second story is an early tale of the Black Cat (haha..tale of the Black Cat..get it? "tail"...?)...anyway, it has some very cool artwork, and features Felicia meeting up with another of Marvels feline fatales, Hellcat...at least i THINK it's supposed to be Hellcat...they refer to her alias as "Patsy Walker", which is Hellcat's real name, but the character is wearing the costume of the original "Claws Of The Cat" character, Greer Grant/Nelson (aka Tigra), from the early 70's, and the story takes place in Chicago (Patsy was based in NY), which was the original Cat's stomping grounds...(the hardcore Spidey fan will remember The Cat from Marvel Team-Up Vol. I #8)...despite the continuity snafu's, its a fun story...

The two reprints are excellent. First is from Kurt Busiek's Untold Tales, featuring Sandman (again :ninja: ), and the second is ASM #176, which features one of the Green Goblins (im not saying which one...the hardcore will know :word: )...ASM #176 is by Len Wein, and the great Ross Andru, and is the beginning of a five part (iirc) storyline that you really SHOULD read, if you havent already...here's hoping subsequent issues of Spider-Man family will tell the complete story in order.

Anyway, i liked it.

Anyone else?

I liked it... and the fact that they reprinted an old 5 parter should indicate that this title has at least 5 issues into it... though I would hope it could last longuer. :csad:

I just got it yesterday. So far I only read the untold of Symbiote and the Black Cat stores. It's quite cool, but the art is not really good for me. Will read the rest when I have time.

About the manga, is it read like normal manga or comic? (Left to right or right to left?)

Didn't like the manga. In fact, I don't like any of Marvel's Manga universe excpt the original Spider-Man manga.

Aloha,
When you talk in such CONTINUITY TERMS, I can only support your effort. Five part Goblin #176-180 as well as MTU #8, currently in the library. Just got the Spider-Man Family haven't read it yet.

umm.. so this thing is not in continuity at al lcorrect?

I thought we already had a Spiderman Family #1?

ok, but he has the symbiote in the main story..whats with that?

It's a story from current continuity that occured in the past... back to when Peter had the symbiote costume.

:yay:

Aloha,
I was a little confused by that as well. I think there are three issues. Spider-Man Family #1, Spider-Man Family and his Amazing Friends and Spider-Man Family Back in Black #1.

Okay, folks, here's where the confusion ends:

The previous Spider-Man Family titles are one-shots. They did so well, it now has it's own bi-monthly series. This SMF #1 is the first issue of the ongoing.

An' it's not too "kid friendly". The all-ages books are very high in quality.

Issue #2 came out this week.

Venom fans (especially newer ones) will want to check this issue out. It starts off with a brand new Venom (Brock) story by Sean McKeever , and also reprints ASM #347, which features Spidey and Venom's classic fight on the deserted island, by Michelinie and Larson...

The next reprint is ASM #177 which continues the Green Goblin III Saga, the first part of which was reprinted in Spider-Man Family #1 (Glad to see Marvel will be presenting the story in it's entirety)...

There's a brand new Lizard story by a writer im not familiar with called Paul Benjamin...good story, but i wasnt crazy about the artwork (Vasilis Lolos? never heard of him.)...

There's also a new black and white Spider-Man Manga, for fans of that style of Spidey stories...

All in all; a good all around read.

I'm looking forward for the Venom stories. And I'm glad that Family does continues the reprint of the Green Goblin saga

If McKeever wrote Venom in the 90s, his Lethal Protector days woulda been more well liked.

I didn't catch #1 But I was able to get #2 this weekend.A very well written Venom Story.I enjoyed it very much.I didn't read the other stories{Though I already own ASM #347 so I've read that before}I'm gonna read the rest soon. But i flipped through the lizard story and the art was horrible.Worst lizard ever.

Spider-Man Family #5 came out this week.

Excellent "Halloween" issue.

We get a brand new story with Spidey and Dr. Strange, guest-starring Morbius :word: (in his classic suit, no less, with just a SLIGHT tweak)...

A brand new Spidey/Kraven/Man-Wolf story...

The continuation of the Green Goblin III Saga, reprinting ASM #179...

And a reprint of MTU #21 featuring Spidey and Dr. Strange....

There's also some Spider-Man Manga crap, if you're into that

All in all, a great issue. Am i the only one buying this?

Nope... I get this book as well.

I'm glad they didn't can it after McKeever left for DC. :cmad: :cmad: :cmad:

Aloha,
No, I think they're a good deal for the money.Like a two disk CD New material on one and old classics on the other.

Well, issue #8 came out this week, and while the first story was a rather pointless (and shameless) Iron Man team -up (pre-civil war) for his big movie coming out, but I really took exception to the second story where Pete meets up with Bobby Drake (Iceman), and they claim they haven't seen each other in ages (and they reference Marvel Team-Up #4 (vol.1)), and then Pete mentions that he's taking his girlfriend Gwen to a restaurent.

Now, I can ignore the fact that Pete's identity was not revealed to the X-Men in that issue, though he was unconcious at X-Mansion while Xavier probed his mind for a bit, so it's plausible that it might have been discovered, but Gwen dies by the time MTU #12 rolls around, so this story had to take place between 8 issues of MTU, and somehow I doubt that it had been "ages" since that meeting, even in Marvel time... makes me wonder if it was part of the "bring back Gwen" deal that might have happened in BND.

Other than that, a Venom reprint as well as part 2 of Spider-Man: Death & Destiny, which is an excellent Spidey mini to re-read.

:yay:
