Comics Spider-Man Family Discussion

The first story of issue 8 was okay, but I loved the second story very much. The reprints were also great, even if I already read them, and I personally like the manga stories.

Gah...my store didn't get a copy of #8 this week and I totally forgot about it. Will have to ask him about it next week...hopefully I'll remember :o

So according to Steve Wacker, in the letters page of ASM #578, Spider-Man Family is about to go monthly!

I guess that means sales are good. :word:

I love this book so far. Untold Tales of Spidey, and Mr. & Mrs. Spider-Man have all been great!

Wow....that's the first GOOD SPidey news I've gotten in awhile!:woot:

Well, get THIS; he also said we haven't seen the last of Mayday yet either...

I don't know if she's going to get a regular feature in Spider-Man Family, or maybe a new ongoing, or what, but at least she'll still be around.

See, that was my main gripe about Mayday being moved to ASM:Family. Now that it looks like it'll be monthly, I'm cool...so long as she gets the cover, or they do it flip-book style!:woot:

Well, I'm sure I'll get crucified for saying this, but I really enjoyed the Jackpot story in Amazing Spider-Man #6...

Looks like we might not have seen the last of her...

:yay:

The story was good. Jackpot had a lotta potential until they introduced this convoluted twist to her ID.

Issue 6 was fantastic, IMO. Also, I really liked the Jackpot story. Really was very interesting, if you ask me, and obviously, awesome.

Stopped reading after the first few issues, actually - stopped reading after realizing I wasn't actually reading them. Something about this series reminded me of Spider-Man Unlimited in that the stories seemed throwaway - reasons to employ new artists & writers. Just my personal feeling on the book - I certainly would like to enjoy it.

New writers and artists gotta start somewhere. A lotta the stories ARE throwaway, but rather 'em be in a separate book than filler in a series.

Throwaway stories are my biggest gripe with these kind of books.

I'm certainly all for new creators getting a forum, but why not make it count?

To me, Spider-Man Family is the perfect place to check in with various friends, allies, and enemies from Spidey's illustrious cast.

Never understood the reason fer throwaways. Guess it all depends where editorial wants the direction to go and if it fits the plan or not.

I think the "filler" issues where there when either new creative teams were set to begin a run but were not ready for the monthly schedule (the scheduling of books used to be a priority)...

When Denis O'Neil finished his 12 issue stint, they didn't have a new writer yet, so rather than waiting a few months for Stern to come on board, we had "filler" issues...

Ugh...

:csad:

I thought I'd come back to this thread and see if I got slagged for my comments. I haven't, so thank you. So what do you guys think of the move to monthly - a death curse? Second chance? Vehicle to give Spider-Girl more play?

I'll assume the first monthly edition could be a jumping-on point to allow me to re-appraise the title. Do any of ya know if once it's monthly the price will drop to something more reasonable to pay for on a monthly basis? If so, I assume the page count will drop too which is OK if they cut the reprints.

That's another thing, early on in this title the reprints were somewhat relevant but they never seem to reprint anything from the past 10-15 years, only 60's-80's stuff. Any thoughts on this?

It looks like thise new format is all-new material so far. I don't forsee the price droppin' anytime soon, however you ARE getting several strips fer yer money so it's actually like shoppin' at a discount store with the giant-sized items. You'd be payin' upwards of $9 or $12 fer single issue equivalents.

I thought this series was canceled. I couldn't find any news on any new issues, and there weren't any reviews on Spiderfan.

It was renamed "Amazing Spider-Man Family" last year, and the 7th issue will be out this month.

the first 6 should be easy enough to pick up, though the first Spider-Girl issue might be hard to find... as it sold out.

Good luck...

I love the picture of young Peter Parker with Uncle Ben in ASMF #7.... he's wearing a Charlie Brown tee-shirt...

LOL!!!!

Bring on farmernudie.... :woot: :woot: :woot:

:cwink:

Hmm, I can see how we comic fans are a cowardly lot. I just wanted to breeze through the latest ASMF because of this thread, and there wasn't any on the comic book shelf. The comic that is ALWAYS on the comic book shelf. Hrmph. Now I'm itching to get it and buy it, to see what the fuss is all about. I'm such a cliche. Anyway - who is APRIL?

Since they put Spider-Girl stories into ASMF, it probably sells more because most of the Spider-Girl fanbase is buying it, which was roughly twice as many people that were buying the book prior...

Ask your shop to get some more copies in... they can probably get the last few issues.

:yay:
