So, theory time....

Asian actor auditioned for role Tony now has. Scooper hears an Asian may play Peter's best friend. But instead the role goes to Tony. Therefore, Tony is Peter's best friend. Traditionally, Harry is Peter's best friend. In conclusion, Tony is Harry.

Lol I love Monk. Probably one of the greatest shows of all time imo.

And nice theory.

What if Tony Revolori character is worked on in future films and become Morbius?

Yes! Internet high five to a fellow Monk fan! I was quite peeved when it got taken off Netflix, it's been far too long since I've seen an episode. At least I've got Psych for my comedic-crime show fix.

Back in the ole' TASM days, Ted Levine (Stottlemeyer) was my pick to play JJJ. And now it's Timothy Omundson, who played Lassiter on Psych. I'm sensing a trend here..... Dry witted detectives must make good JJJ material :woot:

I've always liked Morbius, and I think enough time has passed that the Twilight crap is done so why not?

I think Zendaya is Michele Gonzalez and Tony is the Manuel guy, but really in name only as a sort of Easter egg for the comic book fans. Laura could be Sally or Liz. We really won't know if they're fake names until we get more casting news and they specifically say "MJ" "Harry" etc. We didn't get a fake name for Aunt May though...

Still wonder why Jameson wasn't in TASM movies

Think I remember Webb, Arad and Tolmach saying Simmons' was too iconic so rather than try to match his portrayal (or surpass it) with a different actor, they didn't include him in the commentary for the first TASM.

Not 100% though, as it was a while since I've watched it.

so what have I missed?

has Michael Keaton been confirmed as MJ yet??

Please let it be this. I'm sorry but I want an actual redhead playing MJ; an actual blonde playing Gwen. And I want Harry to something similar to the comics and "Spectacular Spider-Man" and ALSO a redhead. No race-switching for the sake of being diverse.

Sure, I didn't mind it when it was Michael Clark Duncan as Kingpin (it worked because of his size, bald head, and he could play big, powerful people) or Samuel L. Jackson as Nick Fury (as established in Mark Millar's "Ultimates") or even Ben Urich in the "Daredevil" Netflix series, but in the case of this... I just want a really good Spider-Man film again that rivals what Raimi did and is the closest to the comics of all. I am fine with Peter having a culturally diverse school, but I don't want to see the Osborns, MJ, or Gwen be changed all for the sake of 'not wanting to do what's been done before' or whatever. Look to the Ultimate Spider-Man comics as inspiration. Peter has a wide variety of different classmates and supporting players that are different ethnicities and races. Even the awful "Ultimate Spider-Man" series has White Tiger, Nova, and a young Luke Cage/Powerman.

^ I'd be cool with the Osbornes being race swapped and even Gwen to an extent, but not MJ. We'll see when we get more casting news if we start getting real names like MJ or Harry, or more random names like Michelle and Manuel.

And Kate McKinnon as J Jonah Jameson.

That was an obvious joke, but now that I've typed it out, I wouldn't mind that.

and alot of us "purist" didn't even take issue with it at the time.. Liz Allen is quite all that honestly.. just a grain of sand on the beach that is the spidey mythos... it really had nothing to do with the fact they made her character interesting (which imo she still was just a grain of sand on that cartoon as well...) hardly anything to write home about...

she's a tertiary character at best.. very little cares what they change about her. which is what i've been repeatedly saying over and over again... the less iconic the character, the less people care.. the more iconic the more friction when you try to change them.

Liz Allen in Spec Spidey had VERY little uproar... and it wasn't because she was "written well"

and on the flipside.. look at all the backlash Shailene got for Mj .. a beautiful girl.. but simply didn't have some makeup on.... people care a HELL of alot about MJ... so if you cast her as anything but a white red-head.. Batten down the hatches... it's going to be a reallly awful next year and a half.

I agree with you about the changes made to an iconic character having greater resistance. It makes sense. Another poster brought up visual fidelity as a point and that's true as far as I'm concerned. Certain characters have an ingrained visual that imo shouldn't be changed. It has nothing to do with race. It's about being visually authentic. When dealing with these icons, that's especially important.

The example with Liz in TSSM is a good example two fold. She's a relatively minor character and changing her visual does little to create a stir but also because the change went along with a good characterization. Had the show been of poorer quality those changes can become negatives.

Alas, I can see these boards getting ugly. I was honestly embarrassed over how people were acting with regard to Shailene.

Or they could really explore his high school self and not worry about the villain later on aspect. He is an odd but interesting character and they could make him more prominent in the films that take place in High School.

A lot of people think because someone wasn't a important supporting character in the comics means they can't be enlarged for a good supporting role.

Here's was never an important character. But as I said previously, I'm all for them fleshing out his HS supporting cast which in original concept was just Liz and Harry

They just arnt going to turn him into that molten man ripoff. And they don't have to nor need to

I'd love for Morbius to eventually appear but I still think he works better in a blade film. It's really tough to craft a movie around Morbius without making it all about him, which it wouldn't be. Not a whole lot of villains work well with him. Really the six arm spidey and lizard story is about the only worthwhile way to go

I agree with all of this. I thought people were gross over sharpened, but that none the less doesn't change the tsunami that would occur if you drastically changed mj... it would be worse than mbj's torch and shalienes mj combined.. the Apocalypse would be upon us

Yeah, I think we're getting some more today/tomorrow (depending on the Timezone).
