Into the Spider-Verse Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse News and General Discussion Thread

I was shocked it went up that much! The awards buzz is helping, I think, along with word of mouth....this looks like it could go the distance.

Here's a thought;
The moment when Miles takes 'the leap of faith' and shatters the glass, that's because even though he is becoming Spider-Man he is still terrified so his fingers aren't relaxed.

The older version of Peter...I was under the impression it's supposed to be the 616 iteration. Do people think it's Peter from the Raimi films? Is that a thing?

Been a thing for a while since a lot of his flashback scene pay homage to those films. It's also definitely not 616 Peter, right now he's an original version. My view is, he's an alternate version of the Raimi Spider-man

How is it not 616?

And if I remember correctly, there was homage to Raimi with the blonde Peter as well.

You are correct, the older Peter it is 616 Peter. Despite the homages to the different live-action films, all the Spider-people have the same Earth designations as their comic book counterparts, which I thought was really neat and good attention to detail. They show them on the screen the first time the collider is turned on. Miles and blonde Peter are E-1610, old Peter is E-616, Spider-Gwen is E-65, Spider-Ham is E-8311, Spider-Man Noir is E-90214, and Peni Parker is E-14512.

You're right about the blonde spider-man, I was thinking more how the trailer was edited which started that speculation. But the films frames the Older Peter as a less successful version of Blond Peter. But 616 Peter has already met Miles Morales, including the other Spider-people and in fact has a Miles Morales Spider-man that he mentors and cares for. Pretty much the opposite of what we see in the beginning of the film.
I mean, it may be an adaptation of 616 but it's also markedly different from him in a few ways.
That's one way of thinking but shows and movies are often given their own earth number, even the MCU has it's own number (Earth 199999). So saying he's Earth 616's Peter is saying this version of Peter is canon to the comics. At least that's how I view it, 616 refers to the world the comics focused on it's not the "default" status quo number. I don't think any show or movie adaptation has ever referred to their universe as 616.

Peter B Parker 'could' be 616 Spider-Man
Blond Spider-Man 'could' be the Raimi Spider-Man. He has blue eyes (like Maguire) and they don't show his web shooters meaning they could be organic.

I guess interpretations will vary. For me the older Peter is closer to 616 than anything else and blonde Peter is Ultimate Spidey--more or less because he's the Spider-Man in Miles' universe. I wasn't aware that either were being interpreted as a version of Raimi's. Since both Peter's make references to those films, it was my understanding those were just pop culture references and not character defining ones. Like how older Peter makes a comment about Comic Con.

Huh. Looking at the numbers, and Spider-Verse is back in third? Awesome job, Spider-Verse! I'd personally love to see it hanging in there for awhile. Looks like it's legs are standing strong. 1 million plus on a Tuesday a month after it's release is no small feat.

This kind of effort deserves to be rewarded.

I'll make this short as I hope my podcast review will be up by Sat/Sun.

This film fed my soul. Period. I was 14 years old again watching it and in the best possible sense.

Just came back from seeing it and loved it especially the kingpin. Funny you would think disney would have been the first to conquer superhero animation

One step closer to the Oscar.
At this point, it NOT winning the Oscar is a blatant snub committed with extreme prejudice against the superhero genre. It is almost unanimously considered to be the best animated film of the year, and to some, the best FILM of the year, period. Honestly, considering some of the crap that gets nominated for best picture, this should also get a best picture nod. I know it wouldn't win best picture, as there are plenty of forgettable and pretentious films to take that honor, but best animated should be a lock.

Also, how about that minimal drop for the weekend? Under 20% is pretty awesome! It could actually be above Aquaman's weekly totals in a couple of weeks at this rate. Now, it won't touch A-man's total anytime soon, but still, progress!
