Into the Spider-Verse Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse News and General Discussion Thread

I'm not sure if this has been discussed yet but something I felt that was worth noting...

In 616 Peter is an outsider because he's in a regular school where being into sports or whatever is considered the norm. Being social etc. And Peter is more a bookworm who's primary interest is science and would rather spend his time going to see lab demonstrations. He's the outcast because he's not doing what is expected.

As a nice contrast, look at Miles. He's also smart but is in a school full of other smart kids. However he's also an outcast. In his example, Miles is expected to do something with his smarts, be into science and go to lab demonstrations, etc. It's what is expected of him. Instead though he wants to be an artist. He'd rather spend his time painting. It's not what is expected and that makes him the outsider.

Anyway, I just thought it was cool how they approached this.

Looks like Spider-Verse will finally be leaving the top 5 this weekend...still, pretty awesome hold on this film! It's looking like it may wrap up around 190 million domestic, which is pretty impressive. 100 million more than it cost to make, plus the international take. I doubt it makes it to 200 million, but we can dream.

‘Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse’ Swings Off With Seven Annies, Including Best Feature

“Spider-Man: Into The Spider-Verse” topped Saturday’s Annie Awards, taking home seven zoetropes — one for each of its webslinger incarnations — including best animated feature. The Sony Pictures Animation film, which won in every category in which it was nominated, swung past Aardman Animations’ “Early Man,” Pixar’s “Incredibles 2,” Fox Searchlight Pictures’ “Isle of Dogs” and Disney’s “Ralph Breaks the Internet” for that honor. In addition to animated feature, “Spider-Verse” picked up trophies for direction (Bob Persichetti, Peter Ramsey and Rodney Rothman); writing (Phil Lord and Rothman); character animation in an animated feature (David Han); character design (Shiyoon Kim); production design (Justin K. Thompson) and editorial (Bob Fisher, Andrew Leviton and Vivek Sharma).

Not winning the Oscar at this point would be one of the biggest snubs.

Congrats to Spider-Verse...more well deserved wins!

The way Spider-verse has been holding onto 5th place for the most part is pretty impressive. I wonder if it will beat Aquaman next weekend.

At this rate, Sony may be able to limp it over the $200 million mark.

The only thing standing in its way is the Lego Movie 2 coming out this weekend. I'd love to see it hobble past the 200 million mark...and just seeing it pass Aquaman would be awesome.

It not winning the Oscar would be a conspiracy level snub, at this point. I think one of the academy members would actually have to be Norman Osborn or something.

This was so good. Certainly deserves a bunch of awards. I look forward to a bunch of sequels/spinoffs.

A year ago I wouldn't have even given a second thought to the possibility that Spider-Verse is on the list of potential Oscar winners. I mean, this is the same animation studio that brought us the Emoji movie, lol.

Seriously though, Spider-Verse deserves this award. Game changer? Yes. Features Spider-Man? Sure. But it's best asset is that it's a refreshingly great movie--from top to bottom. And imo it bests every other animated effort.
Yeah, the best thing about it is that it’s a good film with good characters. The innovative visuals are a big bonus.

Saw it for the last time in theaters. More people than I expected.

It is amazing what little details you can catch in rewatchs. One of the details that kind of bothered me was the main Peter's comic. Then I noticed, the Spider-man in that book called himself Billy. And I was at once at ease with a comic, but not knowing his ID in that universe.

Not sure if anyone had mentioned this but it looks like ITSV now has a Blu Ray release date of 3/19.

Best Buy, Target and Amazon all have different versions available but I'm not seeing any 3D copies...only 4K, Blu, DVD and digital.

What's everyone planning on getting??

Well, after 2 months in the top 10, it looks like Spider-Verse will finally give up the ghost this weekend. Not bad....not bad at all. Also, looks like Aquaman will fall out of the top 10 with it.
