Spider-Man Loves Mary Jane: Terry Moore/Adrian Alphona

That's great news. Now I'm unsure if I wanna keep buying this in hardcover, though. :csad:

I want to see some Alphona pages. It's been a long while since Runaways #24.

Good news is, it isn't Humberto Ramos.

I've never read this...and it suprises me Marvel is so behind this series despite Quesada hating MJ's guts practically.

He only hates MJ when she is married to Peter. She isn't married to him here, so she is solid.

Nice avatar, BTW.

Holy ****. One of my favorite books just got even better. Alphona's moving on to pencil Moore's Spider-Man Loves Mary Jane relaunch. I would never have predicted this.

I'll miss Hahn, though. :(

Crap this is one of those books. That book you always plan on getting around to reading. That book you've heard nothing but high praise for.

I'll most likely get this. I love/miss Alphona. Still need to buy the HC though.

That's low. :(

How RUNAWAYS is slipping...

God I know. I'm actually dropping the book. I don't mind Ramos, but for Runaways it's a big mistake.

Months gone by yet BKV withdrawal symptoms are still in full swing.:csad:

Thanks. Well, if One More Day is what I think it is then MJ will be solid with Quesada in the 616 universe as well.

Alonso! Drop Runaways? Noooo...stick with it...I want it to survive so it can get good again. :(

Yes....it hurts. Not just Runaways, I'm having to spend less on comics. I dropped like over ten books.

Nice way of putting it.

I find it amazing that out of all the things the editorial board thinks is wrong with Spider-Man, they focus on his marriage and not on:

- His lack of any sort of civilian life.
- Lack of any civilian supporting cast.
- Lack of a secret identity that creates the first two
- Lack of many of his villains being upgraded in technique or character motivation. No, it's just the same Vulture stories over and over...

Without the first 3, the very things that made Spider-Man unique have essentially been stripped away, and he may as well be teamed up with Iceman and Firestar and have a computerized base that flops out when he pulls a bookcase lever. If they put half as much effort into utilizing his new gig as a public school teacher to create new supporting characters and an interesting civilian life to juggle with his superhero one, his issues with marriage wouldn't come up because Peter would get to talk to someone else who wasn't his aunt, his wife, or a New Avenger.

Sorry, sorry, tangent. Alphona looks like a natural fit for SPIDER-MAN LOVES MARY JANE. He excells at drawing teenagers.

Ugh, I might actually have to try this book now. Before I could justify staying away in spite of all the praise I've seen heaped on it because I hated the quasi-manga art style and I'm not really interested in teen soap opera books, but I'd sell my left nut for some more Alphona art right about now. Quite the dilemma... :(

Hmm... I wonder, if MJ:heart:SM gets a huge sales burst when Alphona jumps on, might he start getting work on some bigger comics? I'd much rather see variant covers to everything by him rather than Michael Turner.

I know this is not a time to throw worry. And I know SM loves MJ is a title that's not in the main continuity. But what if this book gets drastically rechanged to match whatever happens to MJ in 616? (which I don't think is death anymore.)

I don't think that could happen. This is MJ as a teenager, isn't it? Even if it were in 616 continuity, why would whatever happens when she's pushing 30 affect her as a teenager?

I think I'll continue not reading it until my niece is old enough to enjoy it.

Single issues.

The problem is, I buy SO many books as it is, and now I'm really getting hooked on a lot of great trades, too, so it's hard to justify another monthly, especially another Spider-Man related one.

I'll decide when the time comes. I'm eagerly awaiting the solicit for the second hardcover in the meantime.

Also, I'm cautiously optimistic about Ramos. He's definitely a step down from what we're used to, but he has moments of brilliance. I really loved some of his sequences in Wolverine: Civil War.
