No Way Home Spider-Man: No Way Home Spoiler Discussion Thread

I’m going to be in the minority here but while I enjoyed it, I didn’t love it.

Obviously great seeing all three Spider-Men together. They have great chemistry together and their banter was good. Garfield’s energy really worked here.

The action was also good. The mirror dimension fight as well as finale was really well shot. Seeing all three swing together never gets old.

The not so good for me was the story, the villains, and Strange.

The story was barely there and honestly made no sense. Everyone finds out he is Spider-Man and hates him because they think he killed Mysterio. But then Parker tries to go to school as normal? And then the solution is to use a magic spell.

Which leads me to Strange. They seemed to really nerf him here. And his concentration is so easily broken by someone interrupting him that it causes an inter dimensional rift. And then he makes everyone forget Peter Parker exists. How does that work? Not a single person knows he ever existed? Then how is he able to get a real job? Or get into college? He has no record of him ever existing?

Then comes the villains. So they all come from not only different dimensions. But also different times since Osborn and Lizard were already dead or rehabilitated by the time Ock and Electro came along. When they go back, doesn’t that screw up the timelines then? I liked all their performances but it was all based on nostalgia. They didn’t really offer anything interesting or new like Vulture did.

It was nice seeing Daredevil but completely pointless. And having Brock brought into the MCU just as an excuse to leave a bit of the symbiote was a complete waste.
This exactly. I like the movie and it's very enjoyable it is very convoluted. In terms of quality, The Avengers and X-Men Days Of Future Past were better ensemble films.

Oh, and that new suit he actually sewed? Beautiful.

I hope the next movie starts like the PS4 game

A soft reboot with new friends(maybe a surprise cameo by Zendeya?)

I was disappointed that Osborn's don't exist in the MCU, with them being so big in the Peter mythos, Id want to see them at least exist. But who knows..maybe they'll be introduced in the future.

They exist. You see ESU cards for Harry and Gwen.

Yes please.

You do? I was a tad worried Peter would actually end up at MIT and not ESU

I really hope that they introduce Felicia Hardy in the next film and let her be Black Cat. Peter needs an anti-hero female in his life.

I feel that's a possibility, to have Felicia be his interest next film.
Not sure they'll go with MJ again, and I'm doubtful they'll have an MCU Gwen. I really don't think he'd want to date Betty knowing she (briefly) dated his best friend.

So am I the only one who loved that whole apartment complex fight cumulating in Aunt May's death? As awesome as that finale was and seeing the three Spider-Men swing together that fight with Norman and Peter hit me on an entirely different, emotional level than what I was expecting.

It's weird because I feel like we barely know anything about this version of May outside of it mostly being jokes, but damn Marisa Tomei was actually really great during her last moments.

I teared up and Dafoe just cackling like a maniac the entire time was icing on the cake. Norman was just as demented and vicious as ever in that sequence and I was loving every minute of it.

Also, that final swing with the new suit and the snowy background was just beautiful.

I dont see MJ going anywhere, I think they'll have Peter go to MIT as well. Though if he doesn't then give her majority of the film off and have her come back to NY at the end of the film.

I can't see MJ going anywhere either but I'd be pretty disappointed if Peter still ends up at MIT

I agree with a lot of this, actually. The villains were not great and I really hated what they did with Doc Ock here. I felt like he was too over the top? Something just didn't work.

Same with having Murdock show up. Great and all but was rather pointless and really felt the most fan servicey to me.

Saw it, loved it. I don’t really have words how happy I was with this film.

One question I do have,
did they reuse the Lizard changing back in TASM and a reverse of the Sandman reforming from SM3 in their curing scenes? Because they looked incredibly similar, and it made me wonder if the Covid restrictions Tom mentioned in interviews prevented them from appearing in person. Because though Lizard did little anyway, they only showed Sandman as sand the whole time.

I wouldnt be surprised but I figured it had more to do with actor availability then anything else.

Being mainly spoiler free going in to it.....having heard that some characters would "appear" in it....I was very pleasantly surprised to have those character play major roles in the film.
Same I went in spoiler free, didn't expect Murdoch to appear even though Fisk is in the MCU.
The villains all had a great parts
Toby and Garfield had a great amount of time
Strange was used very well, his character always makes you want more.

The one thing I actually predicted happen.
Garfield's Parker saving MJ, it had to happen so he can have some piece after the Gwen death. That was a great moment, Garfield was really good in this. I didn't care for his movies when they happen but probably a lot of studio input messed them up. He is redeemed.

I think back to all those years ago when we weren’t sure what Sony was going to do with the franchise, and everyone would argue with each other. Raimi fans arguing with Webb fans on what should be done, should Garfield be the MCU Spider-Man or cast a new guy. Looking back, it all seems so silly given where we are now. There’s too many to mention but they know who they are, so I hope all my Garfield friends are able to see this thing and love it as much as I did.

In all honesty, when Peter was talking to Happy at the end of the movie, I swore he was going to introduce himself as "Ben Reilly".

I actually thought it was about to be an estranged Uncle Ben that showed up to pay respects/step up to look after Peter as they have never actually confirmed his death in the MCU have they?

So....Just got done watching the movie and let a little time pass just to have to soak, gather my thoughts and all that. This is a really mixed bag for me. The best way to sum this experience up for me is that its EXACTLY what I thought it would be. There is no other way for me to describe this experience other than that. The movie is worst then I thought it would be in parts and better then I thought it would be in others....A mixed bag.

To start off with my criticism, there isn't a single person alive that can tell me that first portion of that movie wasnt a chore at times to get through. They took that "Disney/MCU" magic and dialed it up to an 11. Oh my god was some of it painful to get through. The dialogue, the way the characters interacted, the constant Humor and jokes which continued to fall flat time and time again. I went into this already expecting some of that. However, they managed to each surpass my expectations with how much they infused that god awful Disney magic into these scenes. So you want a few examples? Cause ya know...I'm just a hater of the MCU (which I am...no denying)....

- Hmmmm MIT lady almost dies on the bridge. The stakes are so high. People are in danger. Ock and Peter going at it in an intense battle and once its over..... MIT lady looks at Peter "So You're accepted into College "...and then she proceeds to scold Doc Ock....Wait what!?!?!?! Silly moments like that are just sprinkled way too often in the first half of this movie.

- The entire opening sequence is just horribly done..."Dude Dude Dudeeee" and it just continued on to them getting back into the apartment with MJ and Happy...Just another silly sequence. Where are the high stakes? Where is the intensity? The fear? His worst nightmare is coming to life with his identity. Why as a viewer am I not feeling any of this?

- Highschool teachers making a come back in full force. Got to love it.

-The villains ALL being toned done with how they spoke to each other. They ALL got the disney treatment and it was painful as hell to see.. It felt like a sitcom at times. My god did lizard and sandman really get the short end of the stick.

-Oh and don't get me started on the idiocy of Peter bringing all these villains (All confirmed to be psychos by the way) back to his apartment with Aunt May. I don't even know where to start on how utterly ridiculous that was.

- Ned....Just.....Just Ned...God......

Needless to say that first portion of the movie was exactly what I thought it would be as if it wasn't clear by now...Wasnt a fan.

Now on to the good...

-Tom Holland is fantastic. He just is. The kid is a true legend that is in a constant war with the evil that is Disney and hes still standing. Its not going to work disney. No matter how often you try to ruin this kid with all these silly little childish kiddy moments. You wont make me hate him. I like the kid too much. He's that good.

-Some really cool Spider-sense moments. Espeically that sequence in the apartment with Norman. Really well done sequence. I mean, REALLY well done.

-The entire apartment battle. Brutal and so damn good. Oh and what a shock. They mixed CGI with real actors as well for the scene. Who would have figured that having more real actor shots would increase the intensity of a scene?

-Tobey brought the heat. I was worried but he came to play. The dude was fantastic and just pulled at my heartstrings and made me feel like I was a kid again. The chemistry between them all was great. I can't say enough about Tobey man. A true legend. Just...an absolute legend.

-I'm not going to waste time on Andrew. MVP. Nuff said.

- The ending action sequence was creative and well done. I had HIGH expectations for that last sequence and it surpassed what I thought it would.

This was a painful experience for me..a confusing one. The movie is an emotional rollercoster from the apartment fight straight on through. Tobey and Andrew absolutely deliver. They almost manage to make you forget just how god awful some of the opening moments of this movie are.
I wanted to really love this movie. I did but I can't.

Like I said before, its exactly what I thought it would be. First half was a chore...2nd half was magical. Hate to say because I wanted to be wrong and I wanted this to be different but its just more of same and thats so damn frustrating.

Sorry for the rant.

I can, I enjoyed it a lot.
