This is exactly the problem for me.

It's interesting seeing so many complaints about the CGI. IMO the visuals in this don't seem particularly worse than than a lot of standard MCU stuff. It's not even so much the CGI (which isn't great) for me, it's the flat, lifeless cinematography with such heavy green screen. And it's not a Sony issue. The Venom movies, as dumb and goofy as they are, look a lot better than this. The CGI in Let Their Be Carnage was pretty fantastic actually, imo.

But I'm wondering if actually seeing the same characters whose movies looked better two decades ago is finally starting to make more people realize it.

That said, I do think this movie should be a lot of fun. Seeing more from Ock and Goblin did bring up some emotion for me. It just made me wonder how much more impact this might have if it didn't feel like such a middle of the pack MCU flick.

Also, I think fans should brace themselves for mixed reviews and just enjoy the ride. Member berries + convoluted plot and CGI-fest is a recipe for critics to have a go at it. This isn't going to be a movie for the critics, you just have to embrace that I think. I'm not trying to be a downer here, I mean it. If this movie means a lot to you and seeing Tobey/Andrew on screen again will be a huge moment, then just enjoy it and don't worry about critical response. I may be a bit cynical about the film, but I'm really hoping that Tobey will hit me in the feels when it happens. That's all I want out of this.
I agree with all of this. The lifeless cinematography and green screen makes it look less like an "Actual movie", if you know what i mean. There's no style to it, and I do think the use of the CGI just makes all of that look much worse.

As for the possible mixed reception for this, I honestly wouldn't be surprised. But for me, seeing Tobey again as well as Ock, Goblin, and Sandman will be enough to satisfy me. I get a chance to see all of these characters again, so even if it's a mess of a movie, at least I'll have that. I mean, who would have thought any of this would happen?

I had a pretty lukewarm reaction to the trailer last night but letting it all settle in, i have a cooler head about it. I wanted the villains to have more of a spotlight in the trailer, I want to get some sort of indication that they're not just gonna pop up inn act III and act as punching bags. It'd be nice if they had arcs. I mean you're likely PAYING millions of $$ to bring a big name like Jamie Foxx back I would assume he's going to have speaking lines and be there for a reason. I want the villains' screen time to have weight.

Also, the third act battle doesnt look very aesthetically pleasing. It looks a bit ugly, it may be the CGI throwing me off.

I agree, which is why when people say the villains won't be developed as if it doesn't matter, I wholesale disagree. Yeah, not all will be. But you need at least a few of them to be. Especially if the premise is Peter and Strange have a fight over the fate of them. The audience needs to care. It would be stupid to bring back especially Ock and Gobby, 2 well regarded villains, and make them punching bags with little character.

Once the film comes out, it will be known that Tobey/Andrew in it. Word will spread. Maybe even TV spots start leaning into it. I think it could give the film better legs.

Oh, and yeah, count me as one of the people who hated the Ock joke. First of all, they already made that joke in Spider-Man 2, and did it better. Second of all, this version of Spider-Man works alongside a dude named DR. STRANGE who casts spells. Just sick of that type of MCU humor in general, but this is now coming off like MCU characters laughing at the comic-booky ness of another universe, despite the fact that the MCU is the absolute most comic-booky thing to ever hit a movie screen. It comes off as a weird attempt at self-aware humor that actually is not very self-aware.

I could see it getting mixed reviews , and possibly being divided in fandom, but like you said, we may just have to enjoy the ride .

The CGI spectacle with the purple skies honestly gives me JLTC vibes and looks a bit ugly. An overload of CGI is never fun, I’ll take character moments over spectacle any day.

I’ll wait to judge but the amount of CGI is concerning tbh. I didn’t like this trailer and Spidey is my no1 Marvel character and this is my no1 hyped Marvel movie.

Not to sound rude but what exactly did you expect? It’s a big budget MCU/Super Hero/Multiverse film with multiple villains. Did you expect minimal CGI? Especially with the particular characters the film involves.

Honestly, I’m a bit nervous on how this creative team handles Tobey…especially since it’s clear that Watts doesn’t have Raimi’s visuals and the CGI in some parts looks inferior worse to Spider-Man 2 (a movie that came out in ‘04).

Same. I have a horrible horrible fear of us getting the "bobble head" effect. Similar to Hollands Spidey, or RDJs Iron Man post Phase 1.

I don't have problem with Holland, I have problem with Feige and writers who make him annoying white version of Miles Morales, he's not Peter Parker at all for me, and he easily could be, because Holland is really good fit for the character.

I am also not fan of "team spider-man", it's one of the worst thing in CW shows, and from what i see here, Ganke and Zendaya will have much more to do like if anyone care about them and wanted them to help Spider-Man.
this. white miles morales named peter parker. only thing good about miles morales character is he is black. Yes I said it. Him as character and his supporting character and villains are all inferior to guy called peter parker and all his rogue gallery. Guy is literally made in comics to not be Peter in any color, shape or form. And MCU crap made white miles morales

I'm just nervous how these screenwriters are going to treat Raimi and Webb's characters now. Raimi's movies were very sincere and romantic and Webb's had a darker edgy quality to them. they're taking these characters from very tonally different movies and transplanting them into a jokey MCU film. That scares me.

At the very least Molina seems to be playing it straight so far.

I mean I’m here at the superherohype so I watch superhero movies. This feels overwhelmingly CGI to me. The bigger problem is that the CGI is distractingly ugly, a la Justice League TC.

I’m more excited for the character moments than the action. And I still think this will be good but this was a bad trailer IMO.

Um, you do you.

I like Miles but Peter is and always will be the one true Spider-Man. No doubt about that.

So basically another Rise Of Skywalker situation? I can see this getting the weakest reviews of the Holland Spider-Man trilogy but I would be surprised if it actually goes rotten on RT; fans will be satisfied no matter what, but I think it could get a somewhat divisive fan response if they end up killing Tobey and Andrew’s Spider-Man off.

Miles Morales has always been a conceptually interesting character, but I never could get into him until ITSV. Which I think they made him a much better character there then he ever was in the comics.

I'm so glad I'm not the only one who saw that joke as super insulting to the character of Doc Ock. I've seen people try to compare it to S-M2, or that "he makes fun of his name all the time in the comics". Nope, this is just typical MCU humor used for tension breaking.

Also Ock's comment about Holland/Peter not being Peter implies that his Peter looks different . . . .
...I don't think it takes a rocket scientist to figure out who he's referring to there.

Oh they will find out before then. You will have cam leaks spoiling everything the moment the movie premieres on the 13th, if not the 15th in the UK. It's inevitable.

And that's assuming we don't get more major leaks before then.

So I'm guessing we fans are the only ones complaining about this trailer and the Ga went nuts for it? :funny:
General audiences are generally much easier to please, though. They don’t really care about poor editing and CGI in a trailer as long as there looks to be exciting action and humor in it. So no surprise.

Yes but you have to remember the GA is full of the groupie fangirls that watched avengers and so on simply for Chris evans and helmsworth and kids that think everything is cool. Lol….So the general public loves it because they don’t critique the details like we do. Like, I hear people talking about how great the action looks and the CGI but to me…the MCU has always struggled with choreography and cgi in these scenes. There’s no creativity.

The original Spider-Man movies and the ASM movies still reign ahead of the pack in terms of the quality of their action sequences….That should never be the case for movies that old.

All that being said, I have calmed down since yesterday from watching the trailer. Do I still think it was one big edited mess with no pacing at all? Yes…However I still think this movie has all the makes of a classic if it’s pulled off properly. The problem for me is, I’m still hesitant to believe they can pull it off simply because they’ve done nothing with the character of Spider-Man in the MCU to give me that faith.

Bottom line is, still super excited and will be the first one in line even though I am….nervous.

This.
This is one of the main reasons that these movies are such a success and the MCU has clicked with the general public. The general public for the most part just don’t pay attention to the details the way others do.

Sometimes I wish I could see things through their eyes lol. Would make life less stressful

Same dude. I've calmed down since yesterday and my hype is returning but I cant lie i felt bummed out after that trailer and I shouldnt have felt that way after a new trailer! I felt WAY more hyped and amped up when those Campea pics leaked last week.

I think we're getting one more mini trailer on november 29th when tickets go on sale. Just like Endgame did the day tix went on sale for that movie.
