Comics Spider-man: Reign

well the key difference between this loser pete and the current joke of a character your reading is this pete became a loser because doing the right thing ruined his life. In reign pete didn't take the easy way out, he fought and much like real life, being a good guy didn't work out for him at all. It killed the woman he loved, made him miss her final moments and basically made him insane. Hell he came back because he needed to be that man for her even though she was dead. He went into battle ready to lose everything once again because it was the right thing. That's heroic.

I agree. :yay:

Now take what you've got. Pete makes a deal with the devil which is a direct insult to god him/herself, forces his aunt to live against her will, mystically aborts two children, messes with the minds of everyone on the planet (most especially the people he loves the most) and basically took the absolute path of least resistance shirking any sense of responsibility or even common sense. That's pathetic.

I'm not going to get into the mystical abortion/insult to god crap, because it's really a point of personal semantics with everybody, so it may be more insulting to some and not so much with others.

However, we still don't know "how" Peter (with the aid of someone) made everybody forget his identity, but I think you'll see that he did so not because he wanted to "mess with their minds (especially the loved ones)", but he will have done so to keep them safe... which is the responsible thing to do... a LOT of close people have been hurt/killed over the years because of their closeness to Peter Parker, and whatever it is that he (with the aid of someone) did, he would have done so to keep his friends and family safe. There have been hints that whatever it is that was done also keeps people from even "suspecting" that Peter Parker is Spider-Man (hence, some of the stupid logic used by Kraven & Norman & Venom (Mac) as seen in recent issues). And at the ned of the day, he did so because of his stupid decision to "out himself"... and Spider-Man has not only been a comic book story of a born loser trying to live up to his responsibilities as a hero no matter the odds, but also one of a man who makes mistakes and has to live with them... pending on how it's played out, the results of OMD showed Peter as a man capable of making the wrong decision (as he's been prone to do over the years), and we're going to see how it's going to play out.

:yay:

The seventy year old loser pete in reign is far more heroic, funny and spider-man like than the shell of a moron currently in the books. And that's funny to me (funny sad, not funny haha), y'know?

Was he really 70 in Reign? :wow: :wow: :wow:

Wow... Jonah must have been well over one hundred.... :woot:

It was a surprisingly very good mini series... maybe even better than DKR...

Better than DKR?! No way. Better than Dark Knight Strikes Again, absolutely! Then again, I think Heroes Reborn, Youngblood, and NFL Superpro have alot over DKSA.

Another thing that made this story great was the art. Defenitely fit perfectly with the darkness of the story.

the art was the thing that attracted me to the story in the first place. Darkly sinister and gnarled. Just the way I like my dystopia.

Waiiiiiitaminute. :wow:

The thing about DKR... and remember, I read this thing when it came off the shelf, is that it was great, especially at the time. But in the 20 some years that have followed, DC has turned Batman into this type of invincible human being that with enough given prep time could defeat Jesus... :whatever: :whatever: :whatever:

So having said that, DKR has lost a bit of appeal to me throughout the years... I know people that read it NOW and wonder what was so special about it, because to them, it reads like a typical Batman story.

However, at the time, it was indeed a great read... and especially with the flop that was Ronin, I remember people having low expectations when DKR was announced and everything hit the fan when the first issue came out... it was THAT good.

But with Spider-Man: Reign, I had low expectations for that book, because Spidey books had been a bit of a bore (as they have been for a few years at the time), and even though the hommage to DKR is quite evident in Reign, it still came off as surprisingly good. And if I use the term "better than DKR", it's only because the feeling of reading it is still refreshing in my mind...

They are indeed both great stories with my two favorite characters... and I'm sure that my opinion on which story is better will waver back'n forth in the years that come.

I was guessing based on looks, but I'd say 65-75 would be about right.

I enjoyed it more than DKR, but i was never that big of fan of DKR as most people where. I dont know why. I was glad to see what DKR did for Batman lore and his character, a well needed adjustment.

Reign, seeing Peter that old takes a few pages to get use to, but the story is a good one, the bad jokes and funny puns are all there in typical Parker style, and that last panel is a mighty strong one too.

Meh, not really a fan of Reign at all.
