If Bat-Signal is not cheesy, then how can a Spider-Signal look cheesy ?

Because it's obviously a pathetic copy. Plus, the bat-signal has a function, to call Batman. But traditionally Spider-man is not called by the police, is he?

Well, it depends on the execution, how it is shown in the movie, If Spider-Man uses it when he is in a dark-place, like sewer then it would make sense.

A flashlight would make a lot more of sense. Because if you use the lgiht for lighting, then it's not really a 'signal.'

Signal projecting the face of Spidey will look cheesy though.

The tracers are kind of unrealistic for a high schooler to have. You can argue all you want he's a genius, but does he have the money and resources to build a never-ending supply of high-tech tracers?

And the signal is a Batman knock-off.

So, neither work.

The Spider-Signal isn't a Bat-Signal knock off. It's not used by others to summon Spider-Man, it's used by Spider-Man to intimidate his foes. It's more the light The Bat uses in The Bat Whispers, which inspired the Bat-Signal.

I don't mind the tracers actually, and I'd be fine with them showing up in a film, especially to show the difference from the Raimi films even more. The whole 'it came from Oscorp' angle can become repetitious, but they could spin that web again if they really had to. Or Peter found blueprints and made them himself. Whatever. All I know is that they're a lot better than the spider signal. Spider-Man isn't summoned ala Batman. And he doesn't have to have a flashlight to announce himself. What's stopping him from calling out a wisecrack or something?

Absolutely. I'd much rather see Spidey announce himself via wisecrack than by shining a flashlight. The car thief scene is a good example of this. Although it'd be funny to see the car thief working the dash to get the car started and all of the sudden he sees a spider face glowing on the speedometer. lol.

I watched a couple of eps of the old Nic Hammond show on youtube a few weeks ago, and I have to say I got a huge kick out of seeing him use the spider-tracers, I'd totally forgotten they had them in the old show.

How they introduce them though would depend on if they introduce the spider-sense to the reboot, which does not sound likely, due to that trailer clip of Spidey being snuck up on by the Lizard(as pointed out by the poster spider-neil).
So, they would have to do it more like the Nic Hammond show, where he had a regular type of deal with a little tracking machine that beeped and stuff, which is a shame, as it would be nice to differentiate it from every other spy movie, by more than the fact it is shaped like a spider.

But, aye, you got some great moments in Spidey comics with the tracers sometimes, once, Sandman bought one from a fence for a very high price, so he could lure Spidey into a trap(but, i guess you'd need the spider-sense for that to work as well in the story, as Spidey just randomly picked up the signal in his brain when he was swinging home one night), and you have the dramatic moments when Spidey has been hammered in a fight and manages to throw one on his opponent, so he can track them down later.
This would have been handy in SM2, to explain how Spidey tracked Doc Ock down to his hideout.

He was not being snuck up on by the Lizard. That shot was like, 3 seconds long. It was not the whole battle. -.-

As I said, maybe the Lizard's behind Spidey, but he's not going to attack him yet... but the audience has seen that the Lizard IS near Spidey, which will keep them on the edge waiting for the Lizard to pop out at any moment.

Hmmm. I suppose. I'd always thought that Harry somehow knew the location of his hideout. After all Pete asked him where Ock was keeping MJ and then cut to the hideout and Spidey crawling under a rafter.

But it wasn't established how or why Harry would know, that is why it has always been held up as a plotgap in the discussions around here. Spider-tracers would have solved that problem.

I agree. I just never thought of it as that big of a 'plotgap' to give it so much thought. I see what you're saying though and spider tracers would have solved that issue.

With TASM focusing on Peter's genius this time around, i.e mech shooters, it's very possible we'll see the tracers in this series.

I think that both should eventually be in the movies. But if I had to choose one, I'd go with the Spider Tracers since they're more valuable to Spidey than a big light.
