Superman has over 440 reviews now, F4 has something like 246 at the moment, so yes it could quite easily if it gets a bunch of positive ones, of course its also quite possible to go down in the other direction a bit still too, assuming F4 will get a similar number of reviews by the end of things.

It still needs 74 reviews to reach 400 reviews. Deadpool & Wolverine, in comparison has 416 reviews tallied at Rotten Tomatoes.

The biggest win here, in my opinion, isn’t just the critics score: it’s the RT audience score of 90% that tells me that a sequel will absolutely be on its way from Marvel.

Unfortunately it only has a 6.9 score on imdb. For all the slack Venom gets, the first film has a 6.6 rating and has 400k more reviews than First Steps. The quality aside, the legs at the box office are still concerning. I don't think this got near the mileage that Marvel were expecting. I haven't been following it's performance (beyond it's first week) on Disney+ (I don't use the app), so perhaps it's gained significant traction there.

I didn’t know people still frequented that site, and it’s not a metric I’ve been using for gauging mainstream reactions to MCU films. RT critical and audience ratings, Cinemascore, the box office tallies, etc., are what I pay attention to.

Many do use it though, much more so than RT. If we are going to be using certain metrics to determine success, we can't be subjective about which ones we choose to focus on.

If someone is curious about the film and checks the imdb score, it will have an impact.

Superman has a 7.1. Not great either, but holding above 7 for now.

IMDB is consistently review bombed for whatever reason, and it's apparently easier to do than on RT.

To what degree review bombing happens with each film is ultimately a guessing game. Of course the opposite can happen too. Either way, review bombing can be seen as a reflection of where the studio is at in the eyes of the GA in 2025 vs. years past. I don't recall an MCU film in the past with solid reviews like First Steps getting a sub 7 rating on imdb in pretty short order.

You can see review bombing as a reason to ignore imdb, but I don't see it as a symptom which should necessarily be written off completely.

We don't even see Imdb in ads. Rotten Tomatoes certified fresh ratings are still being added in movie commercials.

Bringing up IMDb's manipulated "user ratings" is a weak argument for success.

I mean, if a person is looking for negative reasons to downgrade a film’s success, then yes—sure, IMDb is gonna give you that metric. But IMDb has always been a rather toxic site, which is exactly why I stopped logging on there a million years ago. Back then, we Hypesters lumped it in with the AICN of the day. Personally, no fanboys I know respect that site’s “community.”

If you are looking for a more accurate pulse on what general audiences are thinking, why use IMDb when we have the Cinemascore system? I’d prefer to use what the trades reference these days than a flawed vehicle like IMDb.

IMDb probably peaked in the 2000s or early 2010s (in terms of public awareness). Its just so weird to use Imdb (of all things) to downplay Fantastic 4's success. Like which high profile critic is on IMDb anyway?

If you are looking for negative metrics, you will find them. But I don't really care about any of that. Movie is going to get a sequel. So this entire conversation is moot. Yall can have that audience metric or BO debate at this point. I got what I wanted out of the experience, and I will be getting a sequel most certainly. In the end, I couldn't care less that it didn't score a 98% or make a trillion dollars

In fairness I'm not looking for reasons to downgrade the film's success, I look at all the metrics - always.

I like the film a lot. It's what brought me back to the MCU again after years of following it passionately.

Where we differ is I consider First Steps a marginal success at best. It's a solid entry compared to more recent entries to the universe, but in the grand scheme of the MCU it's rather middling. That doesn't change my view of the film, it's just an obvious point.
