The Dark Knight didn't spoil anything, it merely showed that comic book adaptations if treated like films first and foremost can be quality cinema, not simply kid friendly film. It showed that the charters can have as much depth as any character on a TV show like The Wire whilst at the same time combining it with a kickarse action movie. Batman Begins was the kick in the pants the Superhero genre needed, The Dark Knight was the evolution the superhero genre need, had these two movies not have been made, I firmly believe the genre would continue to produce 'stock' superhero movies to the point where the genre would go the way of the Western and Horror. What everyone should be demanding is that all comic book characters brought to screen be given the same treatment as TDK, and by that I don't mean dark and brooding, but be treated with respect and be made with the mindset of making a good film, not simply a comic book movie. We as movie goers should be demanding quality for these characters, not simply accepting what ever we're dished out.
