I mean on the whole they pretty much screwed up IMO. Yes we have to admit we were all excited for the film, well at least up to a week before release but the last three years have definitely been up and down.

Now the film is done I really hope WB learn and change and realise that actually having some surprises benefits the movie. I realise that's like hoping EA would fix one their games but I hope they have at least someone reporting on how fans are reacting to marketing as I believe the consensus is that they showed too much.

I mean lets make a quick checklist of what was all public content before release.

  • Bruce in Metropolis
  • The party scene
  • Batman so first victim
  • Batmobile chase
  • Look of the batcave and Robin/Joker. Infact every Joker reference
  • Batman and supermans first meeting
  • Clips in trailers and a a single clip showing every single one of Gal's scenes
  • The only solo Batman fight is 65% shown in the final trailer
  • Every act Superman heroism other than Africa was shown in clips or trailers
  • Doomsday
  • How Doomsday was created
  • Wonder Woman's entrance
  • Something shocking happening at the hearing (you see Lois react at what is clearly the hearing)
  • Almost all of the BvS fight was seen in the trailers and clips
  • The Knightmare sequence (seriously this one should have been hidden
  • The appearance of Kryptonite
  • Bruce with a broken mask stood on Clark's neck with the spear

The only stuff that had got kept secret was Flash, Costner, death of Superman. That's pretty much it. Look at the difference in those lists.

I really hope they take a new route for JL and Suicide Squad. These days "I'm your father", Bruce Willis is a ghost and Tyler Durden isn't real would all be in the trailers. Think of how cool a few of those would have been if you didn't know about it.

Also, forgot to do it but could the powers that be add a poll to ask if the marketing over did it?

The marketing was pretty poor. The second to last trailer is one of the worst I've seen for spoiling things.

Yeah we were saying it all throughout the past 3 years. They are showing too much in the trailers. I think they did that on purpose, hoping that we would believe there was much, much more that wasn't being shown. I hate to admit I fell into that category for the most part, thinking there was more surprises and secrets they were holding back.

Nope. Flash and that was it. I expected Superman to die once I realized Doomsday was in the movie so even that didn't surprise me.

First time I seen the film I was like.....the trailers and tv spots have ruined most of the surprise and showed us all of the cool stuff

I gotta say I did not expect Doomsday to actually bring about the Death of Superman, so Snyder got me there, but that's because I didn't think they would be dumb enough to do that in his second movie. Or second appearance, I should say.

Yeah, I feel they gave away too much in all the trailers and tv spots. Felt like I'd seen half the movie already, but that's a trend we're seeing more and more often these days. Same thing happened with Deadpool.

I did really enjoy all the stuff we didn't get to see beforehand though. When the Flash hit the screen at the end of the Knightmare scene I almost jumped out of my seat with awe and excitement!

The other half of the movie that we didn't see in the marketing was pretty good:

1. Flash cameo at the end of the amazing Knightmare scene
2. Pa Kent
3. The whole Martha thing and the fact that the Batman warehouse fight took place after the title fight
4. The JL cameos
5. WW's fighting (cutting off Doomsday's arm, smirking, Lasso of truth holding Doomsday)
6. Wallace's character and arc
7. The hearing explosion
8. Lex's character and arc
9. Batman's investigations
10. The Nuke and zombie Superman scene from TDKR
11. The whole Kryptonite spear thing
12. Bruce's care for and connection to his employees ("Jack get everyone out of there", "Why isn't Wallace receiving our cheques")

Overall, I could have done without the Doomsday reveal since that basically implied the DOS story and the Batman fight scene which would have been amazing to see for the first time in the movie itself.

It's pretty half and half for me, they showed too much but the new stuff in the movie was satisfying nonetheless.
