Square Enix's Avengers

If true, then ouch indeed...

They will blame the studio, but this is on the publisher. They wanted all that extra revenue, and now they lost out on the base revenue they could have got from a real hit single player game, that sold `12-15 million without much sweat. If it was really good, could have done 20 million on all the consoles. What a bunch of poor decisions.

I think everybody pretty much agrees this should’ve been a single player only game with some co-op features and not a game as a service title.

I’m just hoping Suicide Squad doesn’t turn out to be a live service game. But in that DC FanDome panel it seems like it’ll just be a single player game with co-op features. Hopefully at least.

Wonder how long this game will last. What an absolute waste of the license.

I think this should be the main take from this. I think because of the license and because we haven't had an Avengers game before that there will be some holding out hope for good content a year or more down the road, but it's arguably better this thing crashes and burns. It was a busted product from its inception.

I thought they said SS was a gaas, Gotham Knights isn't.

Ouch..

That being said I don't regret not buying this at launch.

All of this sums up my thoughts on what a waste this game was. It looked good, then I saw it was a multiplayer game as a service laden with microtransactions and grinding which I walked away from years ago. World of Warcraft is probably going to be the only game I will have ever played in that format. I do not like forced multiplayer. I do not like microtransactions, especially ones that are required to progress a game, and I really hate the combination of all that put into what should have been an excellent single player/coop game that Squenix squandered.

I agree with all that and would add that I didn’t think it looked good when I first saw it. I would have thought we would get a better looking Avengers game in 2020.

Oh right. Not sure how well SS will do as a GAAS given it’s a less popular property too. I’m glad Gotham Knights isn’t.

Visually it was not the greatest but I've played graphically worse games before that were still enjoyable.

Couldn't agree more.

This should have been a single player game 1st, campaign co-op 2nd & then multiplayer 3rd.. maybe even leaving the latter until a 2nd game or even future updates focusing all efforts into just making this single player/co-op campaign content heavy.

It's so disappointing the model they've chosen for this, not to mention their execution of that model, you can't charge people £50 for a game that's littered with bugs/issues at launch, then with a straight face ask people fork out more money in microtransactions. That's nothing but greed, some companies get away with that like EA, but that's only because they've got an established & foolishly loyal fanbase for some of their titles.. this didn't have that, all it had was an Avengers license.. which is worthless if it's not attached to a quality product.

That was a rumor right? I was watching the DC FanDome Panel again and it doesn’t seem like it but hopefully SS isn’t. It could be a live service game but they haven’t out right said it.

I mean SS is supposed to be online multiplayer focused.

True. Sefton Hill mentioned single player co-op a lot in the panel. Honestly I have idea but if it is live service they better be watching this game and learn from Square Enix/Crystal Dynamics mistakes.

PS: Please Rocksteady don’t make SS a live service game :(

This looked good years ago. How they hell did they **** this up?

Rocksteady has no say. It's up to WB Games.

Years ago? They didn't show any of this game until E3 2019, which was a little less then a year before it's release. Also, hard to say this game ever "looked" good, and they started describing the pretty obvious issues there would be with it rather early on.
