No, the Joker wearing purple was not a nod. If the Joker wore black the whole movie, then at one point made a small comment about purple, that would be a nod. Like Wolverines "yellow spandex" comment.

A nod is a quick reference. Using the thing itself is not quickly referencing it.

Again, it's a time thing. It requires a lengthy amount of time to set up the subplot of missing artists and the island and everything. Instead they're able to tie the whole plot into the project Jon and Adrian are working on together. All the development for it happens in scenes that also work to build the main characters, instead of having to introduce Max Shea and such.

Which while terribly streamlined and the plot of far to many movie/television shows, is exactly what the studio execs love.

With the new plot, you have that machine that Jon is working on when Rorschach first visits him. Then there' the project him and Adrian are discussing while Jon's multiples are in the other room freaking Laurie out. Also apparently there's a little bit about it when the two meet at Blake's funeral.

Notice how in one case, all that has to happen in extra scenes, purely for the development of this plot, whereas in the other case, it happens in scenes that would exist otherwise, and take the place of otherwise useless stuff, like Jon looking for gluinos or whatever.

Whatever build up there is in the book is done in such a way that you don't know what is coming out the other end.

And that's no different in the movie. It's not like Jon is like "Sorry Rorschach, but i'm building a device that Adrian will later use to blow up the city." Or Jon and Adrian shake hands at the funeral and say "so, how about that city-destroying machine".

They're both unpredictable, but they still need some kind of precident in the book. The kind of thing that makes you go back and think "oh, so THATS what that was all about".

He didn't drop it. He just didn't put it back in. There's a slight difference. And no, actually, he did cut it for time reasons. He said so himself, if you'll recall. Or do you just like making things up instead of digging a little? If you really think time is not an issue and Snyder was just pretending that it would be hard to film, by all means go out and make your own version of Watchmen. We'll wait.
