Superman Returns SR Sequel: $200 million or else!?

Pre-crisis is fine for me. I cant see the a CEO Lex getting away with stuff too long with out getting caught like ENRON. And I dont like Post crisis kent as he is jsut Superman with glasses. I like pre-crisis Kent as he is doing everythigun as Kent to keep people from figureiing out he is superman. I mean he is just wearing glasses. But kent is just a disguise and nothing more. What I take issue with Singer is he made it a chick flick movie. Who ever equates Superman and chick flick. He is a superhero for crying out loud.

It may be fine for you but there are a large number of Superman fans (Comics, Lois & Clark, Smallville) that were born after 1985 so post-crisis, right or wrong, perfect or inperfect, is what they know and what they expect. The various forms of Superman media other than the movies have been very success over the past 20 years and this movie should have tried to appeal to today's demographics of fans rather than fan's of the 1978 movie who are 40+ plus years ago.

In addition, me saying WB should have used the post-crisis source material is not me saying they should lift him straight from the comics as-is to the silver screen but they should have taken Nolan's approach and created a fresh spin and story while respecting the current mythology of the character.

As a result, WB is having to perform damage control.

The biggest problem this movie has is it is a chick flick and Singer made a decent 3 to 3 and a half hour movie that he was forced to cot to 2 and a half hours. And that Spacey was underused. It has nothing to do with post crisis. And people are already beating it up on why don't people know he is Superman already even with a pre-crisis Kent. So post ccrisis would have really givven them amunition.

As somebody who was 14 years old when Superman The Movie was released, I have to say, I couldn't agree more.

MHO, the movie did not have to be completely post crisis, some silver age sentimentality is fitting, but it was too tied in to a movie that a generation and a half have no direct emotional connection too.

My anecdotal data point is I heard so many people (even folks who were my age) confused by what was going on because they didn't remember the Donner films. MHO, I think WB mistook the nation's love of Christopher Reeve's courage & dignity with some type of collective love for the movie. MHO!!

FWIW, I don't think an origin film was needed, but a stand alone movie would have been much better, and I think post crisis impressions of certain characters would have worked better. There is a generation out there weaned on L&C and Smallville, they don't see Lex as a mad scientist or Clark as a clumsy oaf (and I think Routh tried to play him more in the Birthright vein, as quiet and an introvert, but there wasn't enough disguised Clark Kent in the movie to really tell..).

This movie is apparently skewing older but that isn't necessarily a good thing. Superman needs to stay relevant for the younger generation. I want my childeren to find him as compelling as I do. IMHO, this movie didn't do that. Fortunately the comic books are filling the void! ;)

has this bogus claim even been confirmed yet?...

probably not.

It sounds about right as far as showing the investors when they show up for the investor meeting on why they would be greenlighting a sequel.

LOL!! It sneaks up fast doesn't it?

Yeah it does! But I'm glad there was no SHH when I was a teen otherwise I would have no life (But my post count would 45,000!)

This was just a rumor....

WB seems like its going through with a sequel, even though Superman Returns fell short of its expectations...

^Well thats a good thing IMO, Singer sowed the seeds of a franchise with this movie.

yah I want a sequel also , Superman Returns ended with so much potential.... :)

Do you guys think it will pass 200 Million domestic. Its now at $196,875,477
No need for bashing or anything.

http://www.boxofficemojo.com/movies/?id=superman06.htm

BTW Box office mojo has raised the budget figure to 270 million dollars.

A few weeks ago I would have said no, but it seems to be chugging along in the top 20 still thanks to IMAX...if it stays in IMAX for the next couple of months it's a possibility.

Well...SR didn't make two hundred million...

I think it came under budget for WB. They seem to know this from their comments. They realize that they should have added more action.

And...if Supermanhomepage is on point...they realize Lois Lane needs a larger part in the process.

However, I no longer trust Singer. He is a HACK.

WB needs to get rid of him!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

It also hasn't finished its run at the box office. It has about $3 million more to make. It's been averaging 700-800,000 on the weekends. Not to mention that movies tend to make another 1-2 million when they hit the dollar theaters.

It still has a good chance of hitting $200 million.

Ummm...thanks? Haha. Seriously though, I-MAX has really kept this thing alive. It's had very steady numbers the past few weekends. While $200 million isn't a lock, it's not as small of a chance we were all thinking it would be a few weeks ago.

It's not going to make 200 million...

You and I both know that:super:

Well...it's gonna be at about $197,000,000 tomorrow...or today rather. You honestly don't think that the film can gain a meager $3 million? Hell, the film averaged $3,000 per theater last weekend. The film is only in 280 theaters and people are still driving out to see it.

The film is ACTUALLY showing legs. Now if it drops down to 100,000 this weekend, then I'll concede. But if it makes 600-700,000 then I'd say it's a pretty good chance for it to make it to $200 million.
