Superman Returns SR Sequel: $200 million or else!?

^ Well, thats why I never thought that it would make these 350 and 400mil predictions that overexcited fan boys were predicting...and those problems make it even harder for me to understand why WB spent 204 million dollars on the movie.

Well its Superman after all. A king deserves to be treated like one.:supes: I'll admit though that i too expected a much bigger box office take than 390 million worldwide.:csad:

Remember that that figure includes the 8 minute/10 million dollar Return-to-Krypton sequence which was axed from the film.It still angers that Singer left that out. Stupid decision.:cmad:

My prediction was 250million-280million. I overshot, big time.

I truly believe that if Spiderman hadn't come out Superman would have actually done better at the box office. The fans don't need to cookie cutter heroes.

I'll shoot myself if it is.

It could be used to reveal a number of characters, most notably, Brainiac and Eradicator.

It could also be used to introduce Metallo, if you put two and two together.

I don't have a problem with your theory, it's just I seriously hope Zod isn't in the sequel.

I never said it was Zod.

I'm thinkning the arrival of brainiac..i think he followed Kal'el back to earth.

Routh needs more to do in the sequel. He needs more lines. He needs to be in the movie more.

i think the best thing to do would be not having a supervillain. but at teh end having a cliffhanger. that way we would nto get a supervillain and at the end we would find out that we have to wait again 3 years.
that way they would get even more people in the theater. they would make milions..........bilions of dolars. i think this is the best way to go.

Hmmmm,I like the idea of brainiac being created from the crystals kitty threw out..he absorbs the knowledge of the crystals, learns of earth and Kal-el from them..he studies earth, learns of lex,and seeks him out.he makes N.K. his ship, and transforms it to suit his needs.he is also just as strong,if not stronger than superman.

When Lex and brainiac first meet,Lex could/would name him.Brainiac wants to make earth a place for machines, with no room for humans. He tricks lex into helping him,by making him think he wants only to overthrow the humans, and rule them with lex, not destroy them.

Brainiac learns of jason from lex,and kidnapps him.he wants to study the half human/kryptonarian,and experiment on him.

first encounter between supes and brainiac involves a huge city, and state wide fight, with supes losing, and nearly killed.metropolis is in ruins.fires, smoke, and demolished buildings are everywhere.

you could have an apperance by a powerless Zod in prison.Since he knows the technology of krypton, supes goes to visit him after he recovers, and in exchange for his help in telling him about the AI,superman offers Zod freedom.

Later brainiac finds out,and kills a powerless zod.Lex would discover brainiac's true intent, and would help superman defeat brainiac, but only to save himself.

After a second huge fight brainiac is defeated, using the knowledge zod gave superman. Then Supes searches for jason and finds him in brainiac's Lab in a coma, mutated, and nearly grown.Supes blames himself for not saving his son first, instead of metropolis.
(jason could be who ever the reader wishes, since several like different villians)

Expensive but great ideas Green.

I don't want to wait that long to see the RTK scenes but i've got a clue who it could potentially introduce.:word:

Routh definately needs to be in it more. spacey was in it wayyy to much. i thought hackman's character had the right amouont of screen time. it seemed as though this story was more about how spacey was gonna create the thing rather then super stuff

I agree bgshw44.While it was kool for a re-start,the anti needs uped now...more supes, supervillian(s)and less Lex.

That's good for Tobey. I don't know what Routh got paid for this movie, and I have no idea what he's being paid for the next one, but I bet it won't be anywhere near what Maguire makes. Tobey was a moderately successful actor BEFORE his turn as Spidey. Routh, other than for SR, is a complete unknown, so I doubt his money will be anywhere near someone like Tobey's.

So what? His representation still might want to try and renegotiate the terms to see if he can get more.

Serenity was chock-full of that and only cost $40 million to make. Sci-fi action can be done, and done on a budget.

Then why didn't Superman cost less than $200 million?

It depends on who's making it, and what they're trying to do with it. If the idea for each sequel is always, "let's go bigger!" then yes, it could cost more. Until we see if and what is greenlit for a sequel to SR, I'm no more right than you about this project, and vice versa.

According to Singer, this is his idea for a sequel.

Here's the real truth. If WB wants to make a sequel for cheaper. Then that means they cut massive corners and try to hire a cheaper director.

Warner gets all the power in a deal like this. Not the unknown commodity. This is why they have the option to use him again if they want.

The sets were larger, more elaborate in design, and way more varied in terms of design. The FX were also more labored in their task. It's a lot easier to shoot spaceships in flight and stuff like that as opposed to rendering a complete 3D character in flight. My basic point was that depending on how the sequel is written, whether or not the budget will be higher. A lot of the flight shots in SR were completely CG. If the movie were done 10 or even five years ago, then it would've been more green-screen, which is cheaper. WB just let him do what he wanted FX-wise for this one.

Singer knows a return for the sequel means he probably won't clear as much out of the gate for a paycheck as he did for SR (due to the underwhelming box office). Singer has proven in the past that he can make a superhero movie hit and still be fiscally responsible and do it in a crunched time frame (X1 and X2). This time out WB basically gave him carte blanche to do whatever he wanted to (this included using a new, untested camera for the first time and choosing an unknown in the lead role). They'll tighten the reins a bit on him for the next one, I think, but he'll still be able to make a solid film (in terms of production quality).
