I'm not a big fan of Superman, but Superman Returns made me a fan...I love it. I thought X3 was average as well.

Really? It seems to me that fanboys didn't like SR while general people did. Atleast, generally speaking. The warzone that is....or atleast was, the SR boards kinda alludes to that I think.

No doubt though, in one way or another...both films disappointed some group.

I cannot stand FF. Chris Evans was the only actually interesting character. Ben was cool, but the way he became a tool and just the way things went down blew it for me. And, while Alba was hot...I kinda cringed at her performance really. And....I cannot beleive Reed bought her lies!!! She totally got banged by Doom.....she just won't admit it to Reed. Lying ****e.....

I mean, SR could have been better. I think if Metallo had been in there JUST to be a dude Superman could fight....people might feel differently towards the movie. B/c of the lack of violence....it does feel like too much of a love story and healt felt instead of getting us some kick ass action scenes to show off Superman's abilities against people who can put up a fight.

With that said....I think SR's story and acting pwns FF. Just wish it had more action.......

I think Fox tried to do something.....but the execution failed. Tried to leave it open for a sequel, in case the fanbase wants it badly enough and the money is made......but if it bombs and nobody wants more....they can call it the end of the saga. I just think they left way too much open, and it needs closure.

If X4 is eventually produced, it needs to be Dark Phoenix done properly.

Or at least something that isn't "Wolverine and his Amazing X-Men" for the fourth time.

I'm telling ya, I have no problem with Ratner if he mearly plays Schumacer, to Singers Burton, and the in a few years we get an X-men movie the quality of Batman Begins

See, though, I don't want something like Batman Begins.

Batman Begins came about because the previous four films had gotten to such a terrible and campy point that there was no point in trying to continue that particular story (if you can call it that) and the best thing for everyone was to press the restart button.

I understand that Superman Returns does that to a point, but at least it only erases the truly abysmal chapters from the story and continues from the last point in the series that actually had any quality.

I don't want to see the X-Men franchise get to the point where the higher-ups, or the producer, or the director, or whoever, feel that the only way to make another quality X-Men film is to start from scratch. I want to see a franchise that started out strongly continue to produce quality material.

I hear ya.....but not everyone can.....or should follow the Batman formula. It nearly killed Batman. And..there's no gurantee a Batman Begins-type film will happen, either.

Personally, as a comic fan....if they want the BB treatment.....wait. Wait a few years. Then hit reboot. But, the wait would have to start now.

And, FOX......they're not going to that. The spinoffs alone show me they want to milk this franchise for all it's worth. And, it'll probably work. That WOLVERINE movie will probably make good money. Dunno if it'll be good....but Wolverine was really the main attraction of the X-Films. Should work here.

It's the exact opposite. Fanboys hate X-3 because of ratner while the general audience like's it. Fanboys like SR while the general audience is cold towards it.

You're an idiot, too. I know a lot of normal people enjoyed SUPERMAN RETURNS and it's typically rabid, obnoxious comic fanboys who didn't like it and complain, whine, and moan about the continuity with the Reeve films, the dark colors of Superman's suit, the portrayal of Lex Luthor, and the fact that Superman and Lois Lane had a child. I think the problem is that a lot of you don't get out much, so your only interaction with people is on this message board; therefore, you really haven't a clue what people actually think about the film and just go by what you read on here.

That is a very fine point if you think the franchise started out strongly, which you obviously did, and that is cool most people did. I however hate X1, I think it is completely worthless, I don't recognize any of the X-men, they are all changing roles, and no one uses their powers, nothing interesting happens, the only reason I care for any of these characters is because I grew up in love with all of them. Then X2 happened, and I was cool with it because interesting stuff happened, I could roll with omnicent character flaws because the movie was actually good imo. Then X3, and obvious attempt to cash in on the last movie they can get all these big names in on. I still like it, they had Iceman Ice up, they had beast be awesome, some decent bezerker rage (but still no where close to comic book bezerker) they finally gave cyclops something to do (Hey, an emotional death is better then playing last fiddle to everyone including rouge) it was an entertaining romp, much like Batman Forever is, nothing to praise, in hindsight no reason to completely destroy it. I think if the franchise continues it will be where Batman was anyways, so I am just planning on it, and thinking I would want them to start over sooner or latter

in my eyes X3 was the first x men movie-not just wolverine and friends. For that i give it credit- it had spectacular moments including phoenix(not as powerful as she should be but this is realism so its forgiveable).
SR was good but nothing that had me going wow like phoenix did.

Sr was a better movie but i enjoyed X3

The lack of violence was not my problem with Superman Returns. The problem with Superman Returns was poor storytelling. I just didn't care about Superman in the movie. Also, I really didn't think he had a good reason to leave. All we get is a vague explanation. A major point like that deserves more than a small blip. The whole movie's premise begins flawed, though Singer could have done great things with it.

Some good points

Dan I dont have a problem with any of the things you mentioned. I have a problem with bland superman(clark kent was good),lois was a wench and not spunky,No good villian( I like spacey and I like lex but I dont like spacey playing lex) crap action(in this day and age no one should be entertained by supes saving airplanes and getting shot in the eye). No resolution(where does singer go from here, if theres a sequel will supes still be depressed because lois moved on, will singer explain jasons powers or will he just use them as a plot device like SR).

As far as X3 my feelings are known. Yes it sucks that cyclops had to die but blame singer. He wasted cyc for two films and to believe that singer would have pulled a complete 180 and focused on him in the third is beyond ******ed. For the first I saw the REAL X-MEN on screen. The entire team fighting together and not getting split up while wolverine runs a gaunlet. It has it's problems like singers xfilms(especially X1) but I think the good outweighs the bad.

And one more thing dan. As far as getting out goes ive been registered on this site two years longer than you yet you still have a larger post count. I know it upsets you that singer raped superman but dont take your anger out on me.

Both films were massive disappointments to me, but I think I'll have to give the edge to X3 because it at least entertained me a little, though not much.

Ahahahahaa why did you close the poll!!?!!?!

we where only like 75 spots behind, I think its fear, you where scared, X3 was making a comeback, and you know it.....

WOW, way to take everything way to serious

I really like X3 alot better then Superman, I was just having a little fun at its expense considering it was around 75 votes short of winning, so I lifted a joke from Dogma, and used that. I thought it was funny, I assume because of the LOL Hunter rider found it, a tad bit amusing, ye of little humor though, it appears did not find it that funny, and that is okay it's not like I am David Cross with jokes or anything.

I think that more people generally like SR than disliked it but even the people on here who loved the movie have to admit the response to the film hasn't been anywhere near as positive as the response to the Spider-Man movies, the X-Men movies or Batman Begins.

I liked X3 better. First of all, it was a much better movie than people said it would be, but most importantly, it didn't take a classic piece of Americana and turn him into a stalking creep.
