How the heck is no one talking about this issue?

Thought it was pretty damn powerful.

Hats off to Aguirre-Sacasa for this take on the Spider-man/Venom twisted rivlary. I really didn't expect this kind of issue. Really enjoyed it.

Have no clue whats going to happen next issue.

I thought Eddie's mental state was very disturbing in a cool sort of way. His "Venom complex" basically tells him that no one is innocent, a line I though I would never hear comming from the Venom/Eddie of the 1990s. Thought it was a great issue and part 2 looks very nice, too.

Exactly. I honestly thought the two part arc was going to be based around some Spidey vs Venom slugfest action. Of coarse the inner comic geek inside me was kind of crying for joy with that, but I loved Aguirre-Sacasa's direction with the issue and take on Eddie's mental state.

Eddie comes off as really sympathetic in this issue. The last panel was truely sad and pitiful.....Can't help but feel sorry for him.

Some people talk about this issue in the Back In Black thread

I love this issue. It is pretty interesting to find out what's in Brock's mind and what's his view on current events. Apparently he still hates Spidey and still blame anything on him (he even says it himself that he will find more reasons to blame Spidey on the lost of his symbiote! :D)

Brock being haunted by Venom ghost and in the end wore the fabric black suit are really some genius plot point. Great job from RAS. Looking forward to the next issue!

I loved that issue, Brock is still a madman. But as someone said earlier, that line "no one's trully innocent" was great because it might be that he'll let go that "we must protect the innocents" thing that made him a weak villain in some storylines, and become a full villain...

but it's only after reading that issue that the tittle of the storyarc started to bother me: "the last temptation of eddie brock"....does that mean he will die?

I think they titled it "The Last Temptation of Eddie Brock" to illustrate the point made that he still capable of being under the symbiote's spell, even without having it at the moment. Just like I said earlier, the line about no one is actually innocent creates a mysterious paradox, in that you have someone built on protecting innocence throwing that away in order to perform an attack on Peter's innocent aunt. It looks as if Brock is giving in to his temptation, as seen in the last panel of SSM 38. Only time will tell what exactly he will do.

If Aunt May dies. I hope it is at the hands of Eddie w/ out the symbiot.
And not of old age, or a bullet wound.

The issue definitely wasnt what I was expecting, and I admit I was confused at first as to what was happening. Was the symbiote back with Eddie or not? After I finally figured out that
Eddie was hallucinating that the symbiote came back to him
it was a much deeper Venom issue than we have seen in a long time. Eddie and Venom had always been a brawler, not a thinker, imo. This look into Brock's psyche was a welcome change for me.

I guess this confirms that Eddie Brock
as Venom won't be returning by the end of this arc.
Now I'm starting to think that the upcoming Venom mini-series
will actually feature Gargan as Venom. Why not? So far, almost every story featuring the new Venom has had the original looking Venom on the cover to fool us.

This Issue was defenitley Amazing!. I loved how Brock was ill and had problems in his head and how he stll hates Spider-man for making him lose the Symbiote. This is by far the best Eddie Brock/Venom story in a while and I know that the next Issue is going to be even more exciting!.

The direction he took with Brock was something I didn't expect, and that's a good thing. I was expecting a typical Venom vs. Spidey story, but what I got was more dense than that, and a hell of a lot more interesting.

It will be interesting to see if Brock runs into Peter while at the hospital.

good point. i'd like to see them meet both in costume at teh hospital. or even better, Eddie see's Peter without his mask crying by aunt mays bed, and then decides to not go through with it. then because of his apparent schizophrenia, he kills himself because he can't handle the voices in his head.... personally i think that'd be a good ending to a character that started off with so much potential...

I don't think Brock would kill himself, although he has attempted suicide several times. I want to see how this short, different, and very good story turns out with Brock and his "Venom complex." A scene involving a black-suited Peter and a black-suited Brock would be great.

Really all i worry about is if he does die, i don't want Marvel to just bring him back. usually there good about that, much better than DC anyways, but if he has a good death, keep him dead.

it was unexpected but a very good twist. The story was great and it was great looking into Eddie's psyche.Looking forward to the next issue.

Marvel is riding the symbiote wave high this summer. First Venom in Spider-Man 3, then Brock making a great appearance in SSM, and now Carnage comming back in Spider-Girl.

They were also running high in black costumes and Sandman appearances. Why do you think that is? :o

No it couldn't be....are you implying that marvel is using characters from the movie to boost sales.Impossible!

Forgot about those two?! No, but seriously, Marvel has always had a history of using their films in their comics, like the whole Back in Black, Sandman, and Venom arcs going on now.

As far as SSM 38 goes, just read the issue for a second time, and it is still growing on me. This issue and the SSM annual from May are probably the best two Spider-Man issues out so far this year.

Definitely another fantastic effort by the Sensational Spider-Man creative team. It was good to see that Sacasa easily sorted out that mess that Mark Millar created with his Marvel Knights run. And I was definitely into Lee Weeks on this issue and I'm really sad because I believe that Sacasa and Weeks could have been a solid team for this book.

Meh.

I'm going to have to get a copy, everything i've heard so far about is good!

Yes...a Venom story that's worth reading. So that's 2 for 2 so far (Spider-Man Family 2 being the other one).

Man, I gotta admit, if Eddie does bite the dust, at least he's being killed off by Sacasa. I'm psyched for the conclusion.

It sucks that Marvel doesn't have a sense of continuity with the Spider titles right now. It would be sweet to see the Eddie story from SSM being referenced to in ASM or FNSM, and the Ero story in other books as well. I guess I'm just mad because we have to wait a whole month just to find out what happens.

im actually really glad that they quarentined the miss arrow story arc, i hated "the other". However, i do what Eddies death to be mentioned in amazing, since it will be the only spider title soon.
