Star Trek Online debuts new lockbox items, deploys Escalation console patch

Over the years, Star Trek Online has featured a number of ships and enemy factions from one-off episodes, including an entire group of enemies (the Tzenkethi) whom we never actually see on-screen. But the latest lockbox for the game takes things even further with the Husnock Warship, a ship that we never even properly see during the one episode where it would have shown up. (Explaining would spoil the episode.) The whole point of the Privateer lockbox is that it’s not beholden to limited factions, instead just featuring a collection of various bits and bobs from several series. Players can also get a new Privateer outfit, pilot the new Miradorn Raider piloting vessel, and pick up new weapons and kit modules.



Console players will have to wait for a bit longer to pick up the box themselves, but the bright side is that the console versions of the game are getting a nice big patch today, which should help take the edge off. It contains new featured episode, new War Games, and quality of life improvements, so that’s all good.

Star Trek Online rolls out Season 13.5 on July 18

Things are getting escalated again in Star Trek Online with the release of season 13.5 on July 18th. Players will be tasked with breaking the legendary Klingon general (and former chancellor) Martok from a Son’a prison. This marks the addition of veteran Star Trek actor J. G. Hertzler to the game’s cast after originating the role of Martok on Star Trek: Deep Space Nine. You can even check out an interview with Hertzler just below.


This update also includes the new Endeavor system, putting challenges before players to complete on a regular basis for rewards. There’s also a new Ferengi Admiralty campaign for players to work through, offering another avenue of rewards for players with plenty of ships under their command. You’ve got a couple more weeks to go before everything comes on to the live servers, but at least you can be assured it will escalate appropriately once it arrives.

Believe it or not, this September will mark the 30th anniversary of the debut of Star Trek: The Next Generation. What began as a stiff, preachy, and controversial entry in the Trek franchise became one of its most beloved series by the time it went off the air in 1994.

There are always reruns and Netflix to relive the series, of course, but what about something new? This October, Star Trek Online will be launching Season 14: Emergence, the next chapter of its current story ark involving two races coming together to (hopefully) live in peace.

It’s time to celebrate the 30th anniversary of Star Trek: The Next Generation, so it would be weird if Star Trek Online let that milestone pass by without comment.


The latest featured episode, Beyond the Nexus, is a very specific celebration of the show as players seek out a stranded Galaxy-class starship with the help of Captain Geordi LaForge, voiced (as is only appropriate) by the inimitable LeVar Burton. Burton will also be making an appearance in the upcoming Season 14 patch, where he’ll star in another featured episode alongside Captain Kuumaarke (Kipleigh Brown) at a unified colony for the Lukari and Kentari peoples.

Once again, Star Trek Online’s console community plans on catching to the latest update as Cryptic announced that Season 14: Emergence is scheduled to arrive on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One on November 14th.

You didn’t think Star Trek Online was just busting out a few giveaways for its eight-year anniversary celebration, did you? Because it’s not. The game is dropping a whole lot of events on players to celebrate the occasion starting on January 23rd and running through February 22nd.

The grand reward for the whole shebang is the new Bajoran Interceptor, a Tier 6 ship well-suited to rapid turns and assault maneuvers with an experimental weapon and a specialized console to improve rapid kills. Players can earn a chunk of the tokens required for this new ship by clearing the new featured episode ending the Tzenkethi conflict, as well as by taking part in the familiar Omega Particle stabilization minigame.

Star Trek Online: Victory is Life sees players heading through the Bajoran wormhole into the Gamma Quadrant to deal with the mysterious threat of the Hur’q, the invaders who attacked the station as part of the game’s last featured episode.
