Picard Star Trek: Picard - General Discussion Thread

Because Jeri Ryan was more popular than her? Was Mulgrew threatened by anyone else? Who did Jeri get on with then?
Mulgrew apparently had grown used to being the top female character on the show and was jealous of the attention Ryan was receiving. Jeri seemed to get along fine with the rest of the cast, but said Mulgrew's treatment became more than she could stand. Since they had a lot of scenes together, it got quite tense, I guess.

This will give you a little flavor of it: http://trekcore.com/blog/2014/11/ryan-mulgrew-feud/

Looks good, though not sold on the new crew yet. I wonder what the odds on this new X-23-esque girl being some hybrid of Picard and the Borg Queen or something. Excited to see Data and other cast members coming back.

I'm getting a Star Trek: Renegades vibe from the bridge scenes on their angsty pirate ship.

Seven speaks as if she knows Picard. But they never met during the shows' original runs.

For years I've been wondering how they would interact.

Both are former Borg drones and she obviously knows about Locutus.

Why did she do that? Was she threatened by her? How did the other actors treat her?

I guess we won't see them working together again.

“Let’s be very straight about something,” said Kate matter of factly “This is on me, not Jeri. She came in and did what she was asked to do. No question about that, and she did it very well. It’s on me, because I’d hoped against hope that Janeway would be sufficient. That we didn’t have to bring a beautiful, sexy girl in. That somehow the power of my command, the vicissitudes of my talent would be sufficient unto the day, because this would really change television, right? That’s what dug me the hardest, that to pick up the numbers they did that… That was my interpretation of it. And that hurt me. I found it sort of insulting. And, of course, she embodied the part, this beautiful girl. But we certainly were utterly professional. I had been nothing short of completely professional, and she did her job. Very well! It was a very good idea that she was half Borg, but it’s on me. I’m sorry it has to be part of this legacy, and I probably should have comported myself better. I should have been more philosophical about it, but in the moment it was difficult.”

But the two are friends now and there is no conflict between them.

Jeri Ryan still looks great.

Oh wow, Jeri Ryan is in this ? Great ! Hope she is part of the show than appearing as a guest actor in one or two episodes.

I know Enterprise was not in continuity but I would really like to see Jolene Blalock (T'Pol) again, I don't care if her presence in this makes little sense.

Lot of time has past. They may have served together at starfleet after voyager/enterprise. They may have met at functions, who knows? While they were both borg they would have 'known' each other.

Any chance of Voyager's Doctor (Robert Picardo) showing up ?
I would love some reference to the Voyager crew. One of my disappointments with the ending of that show was how they abruptly ended the final episode when they returned to the alpha quadrant. I wanted more.

Agree. I wouldn't mind a flashback to what happened after Voyager arrived home in the Alpha Quadrant. I wanted to see some kind of welcome home and them adjusting to their new lives back on Earth. We could've seen what they went on to do. All it would've needed was an extra 5 or so minutes.

It is nice to see some of the other Trek characters, but I want to see what has happened to Worf, Riker, Beverly, LaForge and Troi, too.

It is a Picard show, for Pete's sake!

Significant here as well, apparently Hugh of "I Borg" is in this.
Him(Del Arco), Jerry Ryan, and Spiner were all introduced together at the end of the panel.
There is likely going to be a connection there, from what I remember Hugh was part of the "virus" that helped free/individualise a group of Borgs, who were then manipulated by Data's brother (Lore?) into fighting against humanity.
Although Hugh was ultimately part of a group that rebbeled against Lore.
Forgot the hybridization experiments Lore was doing, but, if there is going to be some kind of connection to the new Lal (Data's "daughter") like character, might go back to that too.
Data could have anticipated (programmed her) that she might need to seek out Picard's help.

The prison guards are definitely Romulan. I think the crew member with Picard is a Vulcan.

According to the character briefs that leaked a while ago, that crew member of Picard's is Romulan. Played by Evan Evagora.

"K’Bar: the youngest of the leads. He’s a 17-year-old Romulan and the only child of what’s a mainly female Spiritual Order. A martial artist and considered a lethal weapon, he’s prone to mood swings and is committed to living in the moment with as much transparency as possible. He takes his devotion to Picard and his mission EXTREMELY seriously. . . obviously, they’re looking to find someone with Martial Arts experience, but also note that fencing is a plus as well."

The young Romulan is straight riffing the elfin'ike lithe-warrior Legolas trope, for the teen appeal, Hopefully he's not a total cliche and they have an interesting arc for him.
However I can absolutely see how the type will fit into this "pirate" like crew, who Picard is forced to recruit

Their captain Chris Rios (Santiago Cabrera) although had no lines in the trailer, seems to be ex-Starfleet, tortured dark past, now running his own crew (smuggler? mercenary?), another cliche, Although again a fun one.
Taking Picard out of his extremely formal setting, and putting him with this new "crew", likely going against Starfleet's wishes (to protect Data's possible daughter), will make for an interesting (and fun) dynamic.

make it so all over me

I was watching the panel and basically just crying because I love Patrick Stewart so dam much.

The way Isa Briones was looking at him you could tell she felt the same way.

The trailer was great. I dunno about another conspiracy/bad guy angle because Trek is so much more than that (don't tell JJ Abrams, though) at the same time I am always down for more Borg connections and if that means 7 of 9 and Hugh are gonna be in this, beam me straight up into the thing.

I don't want this to be a dumping ground for things we wished we saw in the other series or just endless follow-ups and fan service--I'm glad we are getting some TNG cameos because that feels appropriate but this doesn't need to be a TNG epilogue: "All Good Things..." is one of the best series finales ever.

That said, I think revisiting Picard at the dusk of his life is a worthy narrative enterprise and I have confidence that Patrick Stewart and Michael Chabon are doing everything they can to make that enterprise a successful one.

Yup. I had so many questions...
Like:
Did Tom and his Dad reconcile?
Did B'Lanna find out if her Mum really died?
How did the Doctor integrate into society? Did he get the same rights as a human?
Was Tuvok successfully cured?

There were so many questions they could have answered had they just added 5 more minutes.

I think, if we were ever going to meet T’Pol again, it would’ve been in Discovery before they jumped to the future. I suppose there’s always chance if that Pike show rumour comes to fruition, but otherwise I don’t expect to see T’Pol again.

Nice trailer, Borg cube, 7of9 and Data are back. Visuals look great.
I hope Troi only makes a cameo, I was always uncomfortable with her Troi's accent and only tolerated her character (and mother).

Yeah, me neither, I love the cameos and learning how these characters continue, but I don't want it to become just about brining back old characters.
There is a whole new cast and situations here, I want them to focus on, not just celebrating the past.
Also Spiner made it clear (in the IGN interview I saw) his was a temp set up part, he's not a regular in every episode,

BRENT SPINER said:
"Data died, he's in the show, bit I don't want you to get the idea he is in every episode, or in allot of episodes....
..What you think may be what happens, is not what happiness, ...you'll see. "
Yet people are already fantasizing he's a regular cast member, and this is all building to an exact recreation of what they had.
And ignoring that there is an all new cast and dynamic here.
giphy.gif

What I like is that they are doing some of both! Allowing for and building on the cameos, yet also building and focussing on an all new cast. With Picard at the heart of it.
