Star Trek Sequel

It's not like all of the explosion will occur at once. Spock and Nero went in only seconds from each other and they appeared 20 years apart. Part of the explosion will occur at different time periods and probably not enough to destroy the universe.

Spock Prime said it would destroy the universe.

Yeah, they flubbed up some science there. Not the only time. A supernova can not destroy the Universe. There is no star with enough mass to destroy the universe. For a star to do that ot would have to be larger than a few galaxies. I know they were saying that for dramatic effect, but come on.

Okay he didn't say it would destroy the universe just the galaxy. What I am saying is that not all of the explosion will be sent into the same time period. A non galaxy lethal amount will be dispersed thoughout time by the black hole.

Here's what he said, "One hundred and twenty nine years from now a star will explode and threaten to destroy the galaxy." then he said a few lines later, "The star went supernova."

I wasn't disagreeing with you on any point I was just discussing that ridiculous bit of science. For example if the largest star known VY Canis Majoris went hypernova tomorrow it wouldn't have the power to destroy a galaxy. Stars this size go hypernova which is equivilant to 100 supernovas. Here is a comparrison picture to scale. At this scale our sun is less than the size of a pixel compared to Canis Majoris' horizon. So no matter the size of the star it wouldn't happen unless it was of mythical proportions. Why they used a supernova as the catalyst for all this I don't get. Still love the movie, though.

I always found the red matter to be pretty unbelievable. A substance that when ignited can create a black hole? come on now

This, of course, does not take into account the fact that even if there was a supernova that could destroy the galaxy it would be of no concern to anyone because the time it would take for the shockwave to spread would be ridiculous (instead of travelling between star systems in no time).

The supernova bit bothered me. Couldn't it have just been an "spatial anomaly"? ;)

You're talking about a movie with alternative realities and warp travel with alien races and you think something like red matter is unbelievable?

I always found Star Trek to be pretty unbelievable. A universe where there are ships that can travel at lightspeed, and there are aliens coexisting with humans? come on now

Judging from your name I think your joking but if not then .

Hmm...I would not mind seeing Carol Marcus in the next film, and the circumstances on which she decided to not tell her son the identity of his father...but, Klingons would be a welcome addition. I actually enjoyed their design in the reboot. I know there is a trillion in one chance they would adopt it, I would not mind them retelling "The City on the Edge of Forever" - the original narrative by Ellison, not the diluted version that was filmed. Fantasies aside, I have faith in in Abrams and his creative team.

Damn fall shooting for a June release? Wow

I wonder what is the hold up? None of the cast seems to have many commitments other than Pine and Saldana.
I guess its the crew

They fall shooting IS probally also them trying to get Abrams to direct again.I wouldn't be shocked If he simply produces this time.

Pine nailed Kirk In first film. Now the question can Quinto play a Spock who IS more logicil
and wise sidekick to Kirk. Many fans will tell you they were more sure about Quinto and on fence on Pine and after seeing the film It went opposite.

And hopefully we get to see more of Mccoy.

You haven't noticed the text I've quoted? It should be obvious that my post was a response to that. And I also like Star Trek, The Undiscovered Country was my favorite of the films. Haven't seen any of the TV shows though.

I heard nothing of the sort.

And Abrams must direct! :o:up:

Q should be in the sequel. He could intoduce them to the Borg earlier than in STTNG.

I dont know. They're fun every once in awhile, but I find the Borg kind of one-note.

I'd rather have Khan or Klingons let the inevitable Next Generation reboot have Q and Borg.

If they're as serious about that June 2012 release as they say, Abrams is going to have give his decision soon (something tells me he already has). If the answer is "No," then they can start searching for the new director (someone like Matt Reeves comes to mind) so they get things going.

There is a lot of work to get done if they want to start filming this fall for such a large scale effects-heavy production.
