June 29th, 2012 seems like such a long time to wait. Hopefully they will do it right and not rush with a lame script like ROTF did. I also hope Uhura won't be in the relationship with Spock in ST2; I don't want to see them kiss for the 10,000th time.

Yeah, I really love the Kirk-Uhura chemistry more than Spock-Uhura; Kirk & Uhura's relationship reminds me of Han & Leia in ANH.

Lindeof, Orci and Kurtzman have been working on the script since late last year. If anything, Paramount wants to ensure that Abrams can return to helm it (or hire someone with a passion for the material) and make it on a timely basis.

They're not going to halfass it like Bay and the writers did after the WGA strike to make the June 2009 date for ROTF.

The Spock Uhura relationship seemed sooo force. It came out of nowhere...I thought Kirk and Uhura had better chemistry.

The Uhura/Spock relationship actually has its roots in TOS. It was hinted at but the network wouldn't let Rodenberry pursue it because they didn't want an inter-racial romance on TV...too much controversy.

I think Kirk/Uhura would be too predictable anyways. A lot of people didn't see the romance with Spock coming and I thought it was handled delicately. I think people (not you, specifically) just take issue with it because they think Spock is supposed to be asexual or something.

I'd rather see Kirk romance a few alien princessess or whatever. I wouldn't be opposed to Janice playing a part at some point.

Yep, the relationship between Spock and Uhura didn't bother me at all. I actually liked the twist. There were a couple of episodes with some hinting at it, but I can't think of one hinting at something between Kirk and Uhura (the kiss doesn't count because they were being controlled).

I thought it was fine. It makes sense for someone like Uhura to enter a relationship where she doesn't have to worry about emotion, maybe just a stage she is at.

I keep hearing people list either Kahn or Klingons as the next villain they want to see. To me this series has the fact that the timeline got screwed by Spock Prime coming back so anything could happen in it. The Klingons are a good option but I would like something we haven't seen. But if they do go with Klingons I say bring the Tribbels too

Well, they already have Romulans as villains in ST (even though they are reneages from the future), so they have to use other villains. However, I heard that Abrams said Klingons have become more honorable in ST universe, so he didn't want to use them as villains. I think using Borg in this TOS universe may actually be an interesting idea, though.

How is that a bad release date? Assuming a third Batman movie will be released July 13, 18 or 20th -- that gives Paramount around two whole weeks for ST2 to make a sizeable chunk of change.

It'd be suicide for them to release ST2 the week before or directly after a third Batman movie, but not two weeks before or after.

That's true. I'm watching TOS off Netflix right now (haven't watched it in years), and I'd forgotten how flirty Uhura had been with Spock the in the early episodes. There's even a show where she starts to sing in the mess hall as Spock is playing a Vulcan violin.
