Star Trek Sequel

I still think their best bet would be one of the obscure races. I still say the Gorn, but the Tholians could be interesting as well.

Also, I think they should hold off on Khan until the third film at the earliest.

What if a young Data appeared as an android for a change. Wouldn't that be an interesting origin.

Good point, but sadly revenge is the one element that helps sell a Trek film...most of the films are retellings of Moby Dick...

I mean, not really. First Contact I guess. Other Trek movies incorporate that angle, but it isn't really what the main theme is. It's typically about saving a world/culture from destruction with a variety of motivations for the antagonist depending on which movie it is. The second, third and fifth movies are the only that deviate from that.

I wonder if the "Trek Curse" will change to even numbered films now instead of odd numbered films? :D Maybe it started with Star Trek Nemesis, and will raise its head again for the new Star Trek sequel.

Yes, no Trek villains that have untapped potential and interesting concepts. That would be boring. I would rather see a villain that has already been done twice and done well, and would make very little sense to introduce at this time. Sounds logical.

Not to mention, they did the Khan story with Nero in the reboot. Bringing that character back is a terrible idea.

Have Gorn really been shown as a race to worry about? I know there was the Original episode, then an episode of enterprise where it was loose on the ship, but i don't recall them being a real threat to the federation or anything.

I think you could have a villian character with a mixed crew of races...one of whome could be a gorn, and assorted others to please the fans...

What about The Sheliak....they never really did much with them after that TNG episode. they could be a viable threat.

There can't be a Trek Curse anymore. One bad movie these days is enough to put a franchise in jeopardy.

The Final Destination, Saw, The Fast and the Furious, only good franchises become in jeopardy after 1 bad film

Anybody interested in seeing Q appear to take the crew of the Enterprise on an adventure?

Star Trek counts as a good franchise. Those other ones are basically ghetto grindhouse movies.

With it being a new timeline, they can easily be presented as a credible threat.

The main thing is that they'd be something different, and I think it would be neat to see less human looking villains.

I prefer them to be a man in (much better) make up than a pure CGI creation. They had one of the Gorns on Enterprise that was CGI and it looked terrible and completely fake. Maybe they could be done by mo-cap with actors in mo-cap suits, but not entirely CGI.

Personally I think the obvious antagonist should be Klingons.
Gorns and such are second rate and they are not going to base a movie off of Gorns or some other minor Race.

I also do not see it being Borg, though with this time line being different, perhaps at the end of the movie they find some sort of evidence of Borg (leading into a 3rd movie).

I would like to see Harry Mudd.
Not as the main villian but someone who causes a little terrible on the side for Kirk.

Not that I'd want to rehash villains we've already seen, but I'd rather see the Romulans than the Klingons again. Especially if they get wind of this guy Nero who claimed to be from a future where Romulus was destroyed, which he blamed on some Vulcan named Spock...I'd say that would give them a stake in what happens from here on out.

The Klingons have already been bad guys in the third, fifth, sixth and seventh movies - the Romulans got one so far. If we HAVE to go back to an old well, I say go back to one that hasn't been dried up yet.

The Romulans got TWO! IN A ROW!
Also, in the Klingons in the fifth and seventh movie were secondary villains, and I'm not sure I would count the Klingons in the 6th as villains anyway. Sure, General Chang was a Klingon, but he was only one of a group of people including Vulcans, Romulans and Humans...

Why not used these as villains? They are hardly used in most of the series, only heavily in Enterprise.

Didn't the Andorians eventually end up as part of the Federation though?

Yeah they which I forgot and they were one of the co-founding species of the Federation. But there could anti-Federation factions to deal with, maybe.

Is it possible to get sort of alien that doesn't look like a human with too much make-up on and leather Greek and Roman costumes. That's one of the reasons the Trek is not so popular with the mainstream audience. This is their chance, likely even last one to get it right. Something more complex that cheesy sci fi is really important if this franchise doesn't want to die off.
