Star Trek Sequel

Fancy forehead aliens are common in Star Trek because it is primarily a television series and the budget for none-humanoid or even moderately alien makeup would be expensive. The most extravagent we got was Ferengi and Cardassians on DS9.

In the movies though they can afford something fancier and I'm hoping we'll get something eventually. I never really bought that lame thing where some humanoid aliens "seeded" planets with their DNA to explain why there are so many humanoids.

The Romulans got TWO! IN A ROW!

Force of habit on my part, I guess - I have trouble seeing Nero as anything other than another Ahab/Khan knockoff.

Also, in the Klingons in the fifth and seventh movie were secondary villains, and I'm not sure I would count the Klingons in the 6th as villains anyway. Sure, General Chang was a Klingon, but he was only one of a group of people including Vulcans, Romulans and Humans...

IMO it doesn't matter - they've still had enough of a presence in the franchise as villains of any level for my taste. The Klingons have had their shot. The Romulans too. And the Borg. And the So'na. And you can only bring in so many vengeance-driven Ahab/Khan knockoffs and frazzled space probes with destructive powers beelining for Earth looking for dead lifeforms before THEY start to wear thin.

Overall I REALLY would just rather see someone who hasn't been in the spotlight beyond the TV series. It's a universe - explore the damn thing.

Well, we agree on that part. Andorians and/or Tholians would be my favourite. A renegade Andorian Starfleet Commander for example could make a very interesting antagonist.

Is it possible to get sort of alien that doesn't look like a human with too much make-up on and leather Greek and Roman costumes. That's one of the reasons the Trek is not so popular with the mainstream audience. This is their chance, likely even last one to get it right. Something more complex that cheesy sci fi is really important if this franchise doesn't want to die off.

The film made quite a bit of money, and Trek was pretty popular in the 80's and 90's during the TNG and most of the DS9 run.

I understand they may need to do more, I thought ST09 did a good job. But in TNG there an episode, where there was an explanation why so many of the species were similar, and humanoid.

But ya I think with more of today's budget they could create some more unique aliens as well, I won't deny that.

They keep mucking around at this film. It was supposed to be released this year then they changed it, changed again and I think they even changed it a fourth time.

How about Arrex's race including Arrex? i know a perfect guy to play him and his voice, Doug Jones.

Abrams wants Benicio Del Toro to play the villain.

J.J. Abrams wants actor for Paramount sequel
By Justin Kroll

Though most of the roles are already cast in the upcoming sequel to Paramount and Skydance's "Star Trek," the role of mysterious villain was still open -- and now it looks like J.J. Abrams has made his choice.

Though no offer has been delivered, sources close to the project say Benicio Del Toro is expected to be offered the part soon, maybe by weekend's end.

Insiders say Del Toro has met with Abrams but doesn't know what the role is, in order to keep in a secret. Par and Skydance had no comment on the casting.

Abrams is back to direct with Alex Kurtzman, Roberto Orci and Damon Lindelof penning the script.

Abrams, Kurtzman, Orci, Lindelof, Bryan Burk, and David Ellison will produce through Bad Robot and Skydance Productions.

Production is expected to start in early 2012.

Del Toro most recently finished production on Universal's "Savages."

Great to hear some news. I expect we'll hear some more in another few months time when Abrams has made his next casting choice. :oldrazz:

Since Borg has been largely restricted to TNG and the series that followed them, why not have them encountering TOS crew for the very first time? They can use the alternate universe as the explaination for their sudden appearance, and I think Abrams can probably put some new wrinkles in this old TNG villain.

They should get this Swedish actor for the role:

BDT as a villain? Sounds superb to me, glad to hear they are moving forward on this, its been a while since we heard anything.

Andorians are kind of a joke, theres a reason they were neglected for years.

They come off extremely hokey.

KHAAAAAAAAAAAAAAANNNNN!!!!!!!!

That would be way too obvious, but as a young version of Montalban, he could do it.

And it bugs me that Star Trek does not have its own forum on here, there is way too much **** floating around for it not to.

Great effing news. I just hope the character is unique and the talent isn't wasted.

I wish we would get a proper announcement to say that the movie is in production, just like we know now that Bond 23 is under way.

I see Del Toro as a Klingon if not Khan. It's entirely possible that he could be neither, but that's what I think of when I picture him as a Trek villain.

I agree. Though I could see him as an Andorian as well.

If he's a Klingon, he should use his Fenster accent. :funny:

Abrams and Paramount will announce something. Maybe not a full-blown press release, but this film will be hotly anticipated whenever it gets a set release date.

Plus, Toldja's Finke and Fleming will leak various casting announcements and such. BDT won't be the only new actor to this franchise.

Well the first thing that came to mind was obviously Khan. I mean a Spanish actor desired to play a villain isn't entirely unrealistic to think so.

Or they just love the fact it appears this way and he's not Khan at all.

I'd really hope they'd be imaginative enough not to use Kahn, blech.

Not that more klingons would be much better but it'd at least not be the same character. It's bad enough that we've seen the Kahn archetype replayed several times. We need something different.
