I'm not too sure on Del Toro being possibly cast as Khan yet. My opinion might sway to liking it later on with him in costume, script, etc.

I just hope the character is unique and the talent isn't wasted.

Agreed!

Del Toro as a younger version of KHHAAAAAAAAAAAAN.....in this alternate Trek reality is what I'm hoping for.

Montalban was Spanish, but isn't Khan Indian? His last name was Singh.

:hehe:

Oh, 1960s.... "Oh, you're not a caucasian american? Then I guess you're whatever ****ing ethnicity we say you are." :o

Star Trek 2. Still no title. May 17, 2013 release date. In 3D.

Carry on, *****es.

Giacchino coming back.

Just lie back and pretend it's pro wrestling. There, you've got Italians being Arabs, Arabs being Cubans and Canadians being Mexicans.

Meh, as much as I hope he will be cast as Khan, chances are he will be cast as another one dimensional Trek villain who brings nothing to the table, besides having makeup on and a weird elongated or deformed forehead.

Guess, you could could chalk it up to a globalist future where everyone intermarries. Bound to be some Spanish Indians.

Although I liked the new movie, the villain was rather forgettable. Also by the end, he was presumably insane. Why did he want to destroy Earth? Because he already blew up Vulcan and had nothing else to do.

Let's hope the next villain is a little more cerebral.

I've only really seen del Toro in Sin City, in which he was a very entertaining baddie, and just based on his features he'd make a good Klingon, but I don't see him as Khan.

I loved the new movie, but Nero was "meh" and his plan made no sense. If he wasn't bat**** crazy, he would have lobbed the red matter into the star that destroyed Romulus, not gone around destroying Federation planets.

The motive didn't make much sense to begin with. Granted, you would probably be annoyed if someone failed to save your planet, but it's not as if Spock destroyed Romulus. So what do you do when you somehow manage to travel back in time? Save your doomed planet? Nope. Go blow up the planet of the guy who tried to save yours. But then you go save your planet, right? Wrong, you go blow up Earth just for the hell of it.

But even then, he's just not a very interesting character. He's essentially a disgruntled Fred Flintstone (miner).

3D? Why I oughta...

*goes to J.J. Abrams' house and starts throttling him*

What's the problem? :o

I'm sick and tired of 3D, regardless if the film was made in 3D or converted. This sequel is going to make a ton of money with 3D surcharges or not either way, I'm just tired of studios doing every single movie in 3D now just for the extra money.

You won't see me buying a 3D ticket for Baz Luhrmann's The Great Gatsby next year. :o

I'm not buying one either because 1) it's Baz Luhrmann and 2) it's the Great Gatsby. :hehe:

But here I come Star Trek 2 in 3D! The lens flares will look AWESOME. :awesome:

He didnt get his hands on the red matter until after his planet blew up, Spock launched the red matter at the super nova but Romulus had already been destroyed, THEN both Nero and Spock were pulled into the wormhole.

Nero never got access to the red matter until he captured Spock at which point they were both in the past. The reason he hated Spock was because Spock promised them he would save their planet and didnt. This was all in the movie.

But yeah, cant wait for ST2, very happy the composer is back as well.

If it's going to be 3D then for the love of God please let it be filmed in 3D and not post converted...

Even better would be to use 48fps 3D like Peter Jackson is doing on "The Hobbit"

With Vulcan and so many of it's inhabitants destroyed in this new timeline, the Andorians would take on more of a presence in the affairs of the federation. They were the best thing from Star Trek: Enterprise, and if they follow that take with the Andorians being a friend but a militaristic friend, you could address how that may re-shape the Federations future from this point forward.

Still, I don't necessarily think they should be the villians. I would suggest either Section 31, the Gorn, or just a grand Klingon story.

And I loved the Nero character. I'm a huge Bana fan, and I liked the simplicity behind his motives. A good, honest Romulan who lost everything and just went bat***** crazy.

A human villain wouldn't be a bad way to go. I generally prefer Star Trek stories that keep it closer to Earth.

Thats why I think Section 31 could work, especially if they get ahold of information regarding the alternated timeline. This would add fuel to their fire.

Thats still one of the heartbreaking things about not getting a post-DS9 television show for me. I feel like everything was set up for a turning point in the affairs of the alpha quadrant, with the Federation bordering on becoming villianous after the Dominion War, the Klingons in shambles, the Romulans stronger than ever, post-World War Two Germany-esque Cardassia, and the knowledge that an all out showdown between the alpaha quadrant beings and the Borg had to happen at some point.

I agree 100 percent with you.DS9 Is my second favorate Trek show after the original.
I hated both Insurrection and Nemesis largely Ignored what was going on on DS9.There was so much poential to work with.

One word ... GUINAN!!!
It obviously doesn't have to be Whoopee, but a more adventurous "listener" who may be assisting in the defense against, oh lets say, the Q (whom she knows intimately), would make for a quirky yet sufficiently dramatic/serious story in the Abraverse.

Thats something I wouldnt mind, a human bent on making mankind the most superior race or who thought all aliens were inferior or something like that.

Star Trek Enterprise had something like that. But like most things Enterprise, it was rather dull. Still, that doesn't mean it can't be done well.

But for that to work, you really need more aliens. I found the alien presence in the last movie to be rather lacking. For a multi-species, interstellar organization, Starfleet sure is dominated by humans. All of its leaders are human, it's capital is Earth. If you didn't know otherwise, you might think that it is segregated. All the aliens have to sit in the background.

It probably didn't help that the only prominent aliens in the movie (Nero, and Spock) both looked perfectly human. Well, half-alien for the latter.
