TOS STAR TREK: TOS - Featurette on New HD Transfer

Now the question remains if die hard Trekkies or Trekkers will enjoy this CGI tampering?

I don't see why they wouldn't. As far as I've heard, they've only replaced the exterior shots, nothing with the stories or the actors' performances, and I can't see anyone being so devoted to the crappy model effects of 40 years ago that they'd automatically write the update off. Of course, I may be underestimating the late-40s, original Trek crowd. It seems like an all-around improvement rather than Star Trek's version of Greedo shooting first to me, though.

The more I hear about this, the more I liked it. Unlike the Star Wars sequels, they're not really changing anything... They're just making it look better.

Plus the originals are already on DVD, so nothing to worry about!

Yeah, there's nothing extraneous going into the episodes. The only thing to be worried about is the new CGI elements, which the promo pictures have shown to be quite good.

The fact that they're being so conservative with the updating and only changing what's necessary is a good sign. Plus it seems that they are being religiously faithful to every aspect of the original show. Every star will be where they were, the new CGI will be aged to match the grain of the original footage, etc...

I think it's cool. I would've been okay had they gone a little bit crazier, but I think is not only safe... but smart.

The first changed episode airs in a few weeks! I hadn't realized these would be coming so quickly. I'm excited that TOS is back on the air!

I've never been a fan of Star Trek (never really saw any of it at all) or Star Wars (saw them all, didn't like 'em), but this actually has me interested in checking Trek out for some reason.

No better jumping-on point than at the beginning, right?

Yeah, my parents were REALLY into Star Trek when I was a kid, so naturally I watched a buttload of episodes. I don't think I saw all of the TOS (the original series) episodes, but I did see what I believe are most of the good ones like Journey to Babel, Amok Time, City on the Edge of Forever, and The Menagerie. Check those out if you want to see classic Trek at its best.

I'm also curious as to whether or not this whole updating of The Original Series is because of J.J. Abrams Star Trek movie. Methinks the answer is yes. How about you?

oh wow... I'm really looking forward to this.

This is pretty exciting but I thought I had also heard that they were looking into a way to make it widescreen? Something about the original film stock was actually oversized - not widescreen - but something larger than regular television ratio.

I will. I've been wanting this done to TOS for awhile now. :)

I don't think they should change any of the story parts.....but maybe one....In The Trouble with Tribbles....they should stick Sisko into a couple backgrounds for the hell of it.

Will they release this new stuff on DVD afterwords?

I've been looking into buying TOS on DVD, but now Imight have to wait.....and I still want Sisko in the Tribble ep.

It's playing at 3:05 AM here in NY. 3:05 AM! It's ridiculous that I'm going to have to TiVo these.

wow, that trailer was kick ass... I may actually purchase that series now.
