May is coming up and Star Wars is turning the big three-oh. I'm surprised a superduperuberdeluxe set hasn't been announced yet. And will the two trilogies be on HDDVD or BR in the near future?

Aren't they releasing them in Imax 3D this year?

They have a dvd player out that plays HD dvd,BLU-ray,and regular dvds,so you would think they would make them for that so they don't have to wait for the format war to end,but it cost $1200,and not everyone can afford that.

I see them releasing it on regular dvds in May 07,and not on HD for at least five years later when the format war is over, and where those dvd players have gone down in price so more people will have the new dvd players.

I'm sure Lucas will do something to make more money.

I'd wish they'd just re'release them in theatres{not 3D}

Lucas has signed with Blu-Ray exclusively by the way, so when it comes out in an HD format, thats what it'll be on

^themoviedownloads.net,how is that not stealing if you don't have to pay for each movie you download?

heres whats gonna happen...Lucas...who is always in favor of the newest technology...will release 30yr anniversary editions of SW's on HDDVD only...so that we will then be forced to buy an HD DVD player. I'm only buying them...if it includes the Phantom Menace CGI'd Yoda edition...and thats final!
Werd.

I am sure he'll release a 'Legacy' edition, that includes EVERY piece of Star Wars media ever, from the Christmas Special to remastered anamorphic THEATRICAL non-SE versions of the Original Trilogy with extras like deleted scenes you've never seen before.

Lucas has become the greedy movie executive he once fought against in his youth. In essence, he is a combination of Vader and the Emperor.

No-one is forcing you to buy anything.

If this is released, this will be 39809458930 special edition of Star Wars to ever be released.

I swear, I must be the only person alive who welcomes these updated versions.

I wish more films would do it. The Star Trek remasted series is a great step in the right direction- and I don't even care about Star Trek.

i agree with rez. if they are to keep capturing the imagination of the youth they have to keep up with technology. A cardboard set is obviously less believable than davey jones in potc so if you could make it more believable you would.

And honestly, I don't mind the changes made to the OT. Fans just ***** about it too much.

Steve Sansweet has said that they're releasing the 30th Anniversary Set on DVD and they have no plans for HD DVD or Blu-Ray yet. They wait to see how things end up. Which sells and which not.

I'll have to check my library to see if they have copies of the last version that came out.

If they do, then I'll just rent the second disc of each and get the originals.

^I agree.

For ROTS, they should definitely get Liam Neeson to shoot his scene as force ghost Qui-Gon Jin, as originally planned.

I love the updated versions.
Why the hell would someone want the original 77 version of SW with the inferior special effects, etc.?

Sometimes it's worth it to watch inferior special effects instead of annoying/badly done added or changed scenes.

Because seeing 90's CGI added to 70's fashion and prodcution design is jarring and takes you out of the movie.

Because no matter how far technology may go, story matters a hell of a lot.

Look at the original Twilight Zone series. As old as the technology was for special effects, the stories in each episode still make an impact when someone sees them for the first time.

Yep.
That's definitely true.

Good example was the Nightmare at 20,000 feet.
The monster looked like a gorilla, but it didn't really matter.

And if there's anyone who works in TV that either posts or lurks here, DON'T ****ING DO A "REMASTERED VERSION" OF THE ORIGINAL TWILIGHT ZONE :cmad:
