Star Wars: The Force Unleashed

I played the demo tonight to see if it was worth purchase. I think its rental quality at best. I was bored with the basic hack and slash game play by the time I finished the demo. I don't think a 60 dollar investment is a wise move for me.

Well there's your problem. The whole fun of the game is finding amusing ways to kill people that involve tossing massive objects at them with the force (or tossing them directly), not just running around and chopping them up with your saber till you get bored.

I just don't get why 7's = no purchases for some people.

7 seems fair, and it's what I would rate MOST of the games in my collection. I'm not blown away by to much...but I have fun with most of my games. I didn't expect TFU to be MGS4 or anything, I did expect it to carry some of the best elements of Star Wars and let me mess around with The Force.

It does that.

...Win.

I tend to agree with their opinions 90% of the time. The fact that 90% of the other reviews out there seem to be in line with IGN on this game, only reaffirms it

Ah, yea, im one of those who dont need reviews to tell me how good a game is.

I used to read reviews, now I don't.

At MOST I'll go to Gamerankings.com to see a "total" they came to with all the reviews added up. If it's a 70% or above it warrants a purchase, 69%-60% a demo trial to see how it stacks up.

Anymore I only listen to reviews for things I'm on the edge about. If I'm thinking about a game, but not sure, I'll look up multiple reviews and see if there's a common trend for the cons. I usually don't trust one reviewers POV, but if multiple ppl say the same thing then...

Now there are some things tho that I don't listen to reviews no matter what it is. There are some games I like, and I know mainstream reviewers hate. There are also games reviewers hype up more than they should which doesn't help my trust in them either.

I basically go by in game footage and if it's a genre I like to begin with.

neither do I, but they can help with telling me how bad some of them are. I wasnt impressed too much with what Ive played of it in the demo and the reviews unfortunetly didnt give me much hope that the final game was much different. Its no big deal for me bc I wasnt following this one too much anyway and wasnt planning on trying it till Soul Calibur IV introduced me to it.

Yea from the demo I was totally impressed with the game. It was fun, which is the main reason I wanna play a game. To have fun, last time I got a game just for the story or because it looked good, I was sorely mistaken... :(

I think the only really really fun think with this game is picking people up and throwing them around.

Warhammer Online has taken over for me...it's kicked force unleashed off the "immediate play" list.

yes. it could honestly come to be the WoW killer.

let the WoW-lovers start flaming.........now!

 Totally agree. Even though I'm not a huge supporter of pre-launch reviews (I find user reviews better because I can trust that users aren't being paid by companies to skew their scores) I can dig a 7.

And I think that people don't understand the scale correctly. Every game does not have to be the most life altering complex huge game to be awesome. I like Bioshock and Half-life and Fallout but I can't expect every single game I play to be as terrific.

Realistically most games should score between 6-8, only a few should score above 9. And they should all be scored according to their genre. I.e., people who play Madden won't like TFU but people who liked KotOR will so the scores should be from at least a semi objective point of view.

Gameinformer magazine gave it a 8.75  Ill be getting it at toys r us with the $20 gift card.

My wife gave me a birthday card with 65 bucks in it because she knew I wanted "that new Star Wars game and games have tax." I just got back from Wal-Mart and ready to put it in the ol' PS3.

Game Informer IMHO give out the best scores. I never really read the full reviews just the "second opinion" or whatever.

guys i dont think it will suck at all, the demo blew me away, sometimes it doesnt matter how the graphics look it matters how fun it is.

Impressions so far.

Wow! I really enjoyed the demo but the "game" itself is so much better. Knowing the beginning of the story and seeing the events unfold is great. The opening level you play as Darth Vader himself on a Jedi Hunt, and I'll tell you he's a beast. The Imperial March is playing the whole level and if your anything like me...you'll WALK the entire level just being the bad ass that Vader is.

The graphics are very nice, and the gameplay is tight.

So many little things have me geeking out over this game, the music is flawlessly composed, and the lines are done better here then in any of the prequels. Is it weird that I get MORE of a Star Wars vibe off a GAME then I did the three movies before it?

I also really enjoy the cut scenes, like I said I'm half an hour into the game and it FEELS like I'm a part of Star Wars. It's great.

Did you notice the construction of Vader's Super Star Destroyer in a cut scene? Pretty sweet.

games can be immensly fun, and yet suffer from horrid bugs and stuff, would you still buy it then?

take two worlds for example. The game was literally a better oblivion, but it had huge framerate issues and tons of other little bugs in it. I had more fun playing the demo of that game than i did in the entire time i went through oblivion, but because it was so riddled with bugs and other issues, it got such a terrible score and such negative reviews.

I generally ignore just about everyones reviews. If a game gets an overall score that sucks or is great, that's good for the game. Some games don't deserve such high praise (ffvii:crisis core is a perfect example), and some games deserve a much higher score than they get.

And games like infinite undiscovery, where you have to sheathe your sword every 2 goddamn minutes to do anything, and where sometimes you're just at a blank as to what to do/where to go and there's nothing in game to help, people will rave and go on about excluding these things entirely. Never in my life has a game got me so into it, and yet i'm so frustrated by the poor mechanics the developers chose. Hell, it took me a good 30 minutes to figure out that you had to sheathe your sword and use the catapults about 2 hours into the game, and it never occured to me that you would have to do something as asasine as that during a huge battle.

It all depends on the game and how drastically those bugs affect it, no game is perfect and no game ever will be, it's really up to you!!!

Yea, I'm with you man. I just completed the first mission as Starkiller and this game is a BLAST. That prologue level was great, like you said, Vader is a BEAST!!! I thought the first boss battle(well the first as Starkiller) was really fun, i wish there was more saber to saber fighting, but using the force against a foe whose also using the force is really fun.

The game, imo, is gorgeous. I just got to Raxxis Prime and the scenery is GREAT!

The only complaints i have so far, is that iv noticed a little bit of slowdown in some of the cutscenes, but thats as far as it goes.

My first impressions of the game has been really positive. I cant wait to uncover more of this story.

And yes, i did notice the super star destroyer...BAD ASS.
