Rian Johnson just made me a Star Wars fan. The Last Jedi might be one of my favorite films of all time. Loved almost every character in it, especially Rey, Poe, and Kylo Ren. Best scene in the movie for me was [BLACKOUT]Kylo and Rey fighting the Praetorian guards together.[/BLACKOUT] Episode 9 should focus on them more, they truly represent both light and the dark side.

I've had more time to think it over and I realize that I do really like The Last Jedi.
I liked how different it was from pretty much every other film in the saga. It was very unpredictable. The cast also impressed the hell out of me. Mark Hamill gave a terrific performance, as did Adam Driver (who greatly improved since the last film), Laura Dern (who was given one of the best death scenes in a Star Wars film), Oscar Isaac, and the late, great Carrie Fisher. The highlights of the film were the opening ten minute space battle, Luke returning to the Falcon and reuniting with Artoo, the Yoda scene, Holdo's last stand, Luke vs. the First Order on Crait, and my personal favorite, Rey and Ren vs. Snoke's guards. Speaking of Snoke, I had to laugh when he died. All those months of speculation about who he was and he just goes out like that. It was almost comical when Hux finds his body and the lower half just slumps over out of the chair. On a related note speaking of villains getting shafted., Phasma really was the Boba Fett of this trilogy. Just stands around for a while in the first one, then gets knocked into oblivion with a stick in this. I figured she was going to die in this regardless.

What I didn't like:

There were a few decisions that I really questioned. Force or no Force, Leia surviving being sucked into the vacuum of space took me out of the movie temporarily. There were so many better ways to incapacitate her temporarily. The whole Canto Bight detour seemed pointless to me. The one good thing to come from it was Rose getting more character development as I did like the character. But if they got rid of that whole sequence going to Canto Bight, they could have shaved off 20 or so minutes and the movie would have flowed a lot better. Finally, I disagree with Luke dying at this point in the game. Was his death perfect for the character? Absolutely, but this is something that should have happened at the end of Episode IX. I understand now that each film in this trilogy was meant to be a sendoff for each of the OT main characters with Han dying in TFA, Luke dying here and possibly Leia was meant to go out in the next one. But with Carrie Fisher's death, now we have none of the OT cast returning in IX besides Chewie, Artoo and Threepio (Lando may or may not show up, and Luke might return as a Force ghost). Not that I don't like the new characters, but to me it just felt like there was more unfinished business with Luke.

I wouldn't rank it as better than any of the OT, and The Force Awakens just beats it out because that was a much better paced film.

After another hour of thinking, it's around 3/10 for me now. [BLACKOUT]And I'm feeling quite generous. :csad:[/BLACKOUT]

Before seeing this film, I thought the seemingly "out-of-nowhere" negative talk about this film were just fans who love to be contrarian and hate on something to seem all-knowing and above SW.

Boy, was I wrong.

This movie is a mess. Cannot overstate how incredibly disappointing I am in this movie.

Goodness the pacing was bad. Finn and Rose, btw giving Jar-Jar a run for his money as most unlikable character in SW, travel to that casino planet and explore the scene, white Rey's "training" in painfully dragged out and slow.

Rey's/Kylo's arch's were interesting, but whenever we go back to Finn or the Resistance base it felt like we were going to some C-level Star Wars TV miniseries. Just a bad, bad story written not including the 2 main characters

Luke...I dont know where to begin....so many places to take his arch and....dammit. Thanks Rian

Snoke is a complete joke of a villian. Taking a jabba the hut level villain and making him "Supreme Leader" lol what a waste.

Ending of the film leaves nothing to be desired. Luke's dead. Fantastic. The Resistance back to sqaure one fighting Kylo again, but with less people in the Resistance? Yawn. JJ has his work cut out for him BIG time. He's gonna have to create a lot in this presumed time jump into EP. 9, because Johnson created jack-squat.

Love of God no kid Jedi movie. Anything but that.

3/10. Dont think a 2nd viewing will change that.

Great movie. Big,ambitious, weird, fun, sad, surprising, maybe a bit too long with some pacing issues. Good acting and action. Really loved Luke's arc in the movie. Some characters get shafted but it's expected with so many moving parts.

8.5/10

8/10 for me. Lost a point for the Finn/Rose story being too long. I don't mind it and loved Canto Bight but the movie needed to be 30 minutes shorter and a lot of that could have been cut. It lost another point for making me hate Poe Dameron. There had to be a better way to script it to get the result they needed without creating these two situations.

Rey and Ben were amazing! More of that please!

Just got back from seeing it, did not like it, was stunned by how little I liked it.

Negatives

[BLACKOUT]- Luke whole character was butchered in this new trilogy, where is the hero of the republic we met in EP 6, because this guys isn't him

- 1 lightsaber fight, 1 lightsaber fight in the whole movie? WTF!

- Snoke was such a bust, and a chump, and we still don't know who that F'er is

- Finn's entire story line was awful, and Del Tro was they very definition of useless and unnecessary

- The complete desecration of the lore of the Jedi/Sith

- Where the F were the Knights of Ren?

- The humor was so forced and landed with a thud every time.

-No Leia/Luke reunion, just Jedi facetime, yay

- RD-D2 completely relegated to background furniture[/BLACKOUT]

Positives

- Rey.

- Kelly Marie Tran.

I am going to see it again tomorrow, I really hope the second time changes it for me because right now, I am heartbroken by this movie to the point where I am actually glad Rian Johnson is not doing a KOTOR movie, don't want him to butcher that lore as well.

4/10.

This is A New Direction i want when disney announce old canon EU as Legend(non-canon) Full of Surprise and unpredictable not some carbon copy death star 2.0 plot like TFA which i really hate(i do not have nostalgia only want a great material) 9/10 same score with Clone wars Series best star wars film to date.

I honestly felt nothing. Way too many character moments just came out of nowhere and didn't feel earned. Why did Luke feel a moment of weakness just because Ben had some darkness in him? I could understand if Ben destroyed the temple and killed the other pupils first, but no, he just felt weak despite his history showing how resolved he was. Major flub imo. The supporting characters just seemed so pointless overall. Finn, Poe and Rose were on a wild goose chase that accomplished nothing in the end, and could have been avoided if Holdo (the worst character in the film imo) just told them what she had in mind. I'm mixed for now, but need another rewatch, but frankly, I'm not impressed out of the gate.

Thinking about it more, that 6 I gave was too generous. I really believe this is one of the weaker Star Wars films. What a down grade from TFA.

Okay so after four times seeing it I think I like it a little more.
I still entirely Hate it but I don’t trust myself because I was a previous STAR WARS FAN before seeing it so my opinion is already completely biased.

I need to go pay and see it another time or so to really get a non objectified view as a “non STAR WARS Fan” to reeally form my own opinion to really make sure.
I will need to take my grandparents and there service animals to see how they react to TLJ to reeeally know what I truly think based on there reactions of TLJ.

I like how the people who don't like it are seeing it multiple times. Sending Disney mixed messages lol.

Saw it Thursday night but have been busy to post until right now

Let me be very direct in saying that I did not like TLJ at all. There were some cool/enjoyable moments but overall I thought it was a poorly made film that flushed everything set up in TFA down the toilet.

I give it a 4 or 5 out of 10

Best thing I can say about this movie is that it gave me a newfound appreciation for the prequels. Forgive us George!

Oh yeah, Ep 3 > Ep 8 for me.

I am seeing this again, so I do not want to give it a true rating yet. I am inclined to say 4.5/5. I really loved this movie, and I think my appreciation will only increase. Only complaint I really have on first viewing is the CGI in one sequence took me out of it and wasn't always amazing. But, the film otherwise is wonderful to look at.

Awful, awful film. You need to add a ZERO to the above poll. Easily the worst Star Wars Movie ever made. They should have called "the search for Fuel". Poor JJ has got NOTHING to work with for episode 9.

I just saw it...and while the film absolutely had some all-time great franchise moments...overall I did not like it...I mean...like at all.

Of the 9 Star Wars films thus far, I'd rank it 6th (above all 3 saga prequels).

My love for the originals made me hate episodes 7 and 8, because they completely crap on the originals.

They made all 3 of the original main characters and the rebellion all into complete losers. F*** the big happy ending of the original, it was all meaningless.
Think they beat the empire? Nope, just came back with a new name a little later.
Think they beat the emperor? Nope, Emperor-lite is right there.
Think Luke is a big hero? Nope he's a loser, failed at training even a single successful new jedi and ran off like a coward to die while letting all of his friends and his entire cause die too.
And it goes on. Did you believe in the true love of Han and Leia? Too bad, they were split up by the time we see them again. Wasn't it nice how Han grew beyond being a selfish petty smuggler into a man who fought for others and was a general? Too bad, back to a loser smuggler ignoring the greater cause. Think Leia had a big strategic victory? Nope, loser, even after getting the dominant position in the galaxy for her side she just immediately lost it again anyway.

All I needed for me to like these new movies was to see Luke do something awesome as a jedi master, a good fight etc. Nope, he's a cowardly failure who in the end doesn't even show up for the last fight and dies from wearing himself out or some bullcrap non-explanation poorly done homage to Obi-wan's death (which, by the way, made the fact that he'd tricked the bad guys and they couldn't kill him, look completely stupid because he just died right away anyway)

So angry. If they weren't going to hoop the originals they shouldn't have used them.

I enjoyed it. Probably on par with TFA honestly maybe even a bit better, but definitely more enjoyable than RO at least because unlike that movie I was actually invested in these characters. I got to say though that the first half whether its the first 30 minutes or the entire first hour was choppy as hell. It was seriously jarring how awful the editing was and it annoyed me how many weird transitions their were between scenes. That was about as bad as the first half of RO and combine it with some of the iffy acting and I was sure I was going to dislike it, but luckily it did recover from there. Once [BLACKOUT]Rey/Kylo had their first Force link up[/BLACKOUT] is when it started to feel a lot smoother for me. Anyways, coming from a casual fans perspective I can totally see why the diehards would hate this movie. Rian Johnson made some bold choices with this film which I can appreciate, because its going against the formula and is at least trying to be different, but being different doesn't always mean it will come out good. Mark Hamill is fantastic here acting wise, but Luke did feel somewhat wasted. I mean I'm not even a Star Wars fanboy, but even I think we should have got some kind of [BLACKOUT]EPIC showdown with him either using a Light saber or The Force. To make it even worse is that they killed him off which felt so unnecessary IMO, but I still have hope that he will show up in the next movie in some form or fashion[/BLACKOUT]. As for the rest, the Rey/Kylo relationship has to be my favorite thing about this film, because it is so well done. Sure it reeks of fan fiction, but those two [BLACKOUT]possibly becoming a team up in the future[/BLACKOUT] is easily one of the most interesting aspects this new trilogy has offered. Also, how can you not want to see [BLACKOUT]those two wreck more **** together after that badass fight in the Throne Room[/BLACKOUT]. It's too bad the Finn/Poe stuff wasn't better though. Finn's story-line is especially meh and you could have had anybody else play BDT's character. Poe is still a likable and cool Han wannabe, but I expected more from him besides just butting heads with Laura Dern's character who I liked, because she does have one of the best visual looking action sequences I have seen in a very long time. I mean that shot was ****ing crazy and who would have thought[BLACKOUT] light speed could be used as a weapon. [/BLACKOUT]

Snoke was a BIG letdown though. He was talking so much trash and they built him up as this powerful, supreme evil being and[BLACKOUT] he just gets taken out like a chump lol.[/BLACKOUT] It's a shame too, because Serkis brought a lot of menace to the character and we still don't know who the hell he was which is pretty damn disappointing. As good as Driver was in this I'm still not sold on [BLACKOUT]him being the next big villain unless Episode 9 takes place years into the future[/BLACKOUT].

7/10 for me.

It wasn't the bold choices I disliked about this movie. Let's not use the "old farts can't get with the new generation" excuse. People aren't liking it because they think that it's a bad film.

Sure I can understand that too. I mean I thought the entire first half of this film was pretty awful own its own in terms of pacing, editing and acting. I was just trying to address those who had complaints over some of the left field decisions/choices the director made.

Sorry, forgot to use spoiler tags on that last post so basically erased it and reposting:

Let me keep going on the ways it sucks

-RUINS both mysteries from the previous movie. Rey's parents? Who cares, they're nobodies. Who is Snoke and how did he rise to power? Who cares, cuz he's dead already
-All kinds of basic logic problems. For example, the good guys have to preserve their fuel but why doesn't one of the bad guy ships just light speed up past them and attack them from the front for a second to slow them down? Or why don't the bad guys call in another ship to show up in front of them? Or when those crappy old speeders are going at the ram laser and they all peel off except Fin, he's going full speed, so how does the girl manage to go off to the side, then catch up to him and swoop in and knock him off course? Makes no sense

Now, the ways it's good:
-Has some good comedy
-Got me to like Rey and Kilo Ren which I didn't think it would
-Had the best fight scene in any Star Wars movie to me (fighting the red suited guys)
-I liked the twist of Snoke being killed, except it ruining the whole mystery of who he is in the first place

I just got back from my screening and i wasnt happy with this film.

Rey literally learned nothing from luke but how to catch fish and suckle milk from alien seals and from lukes facial expressions it taste real gooood! lol, from the moment when rey handed luke his lightsaber and then he tosses it over his shoulder was where i was like i think im not gonna like this movie. Actually the moment i think i knew the movie might go downhill for me was when po and general hux were communicating as if po was speaking to customer service. Snoke was built up as a nobody and Reys lineage was disappointing. Some jokes/humor landed but some just didnt need to be in the movie. Leias force powers bringing her back from the dead like wtf!. The casino planet made star wars not feel like star wars and the rose and finn thing was just meh. The action scenes and cinematography in this was great but the plot was weak. BB-8 was fun but he was there to sell toys along with the cute penguins. It felt like the new characters from the force awakens and the original star war characters were handled poorly. I mean Chewies biggest scene was trying to eat a penguin :csad:. The movie for me was disappointing, it just felt like force awakens was built up to nothing all those question you had from force awakens are pretty much void.

Star Wars: The Last Jedi - Spoiler Free Review

After waiting 2 years for the movie, Star Wars fans were ready to see what happened next in the conflict between the Resistance and the First Order. That time finally came on December 15, 2017 with Star Wars: The Last Jedi. With Rian Johnson on the directing throne instead of JJ Abrams, everyone wondered what the plot of the movie was going to be like. Disney and Lucasfilm put too much trust in Rian Johnson, they gave him an full trilogy without waiting to see how The Last Jedi did at the movie theater. It felt like Disney and Lucasfilm didn't read the script that Rian Johnson wrote, and they just approved the script and pushed him to the side for money purposes. Rian Johnson took an huge risk, and went overboard with his creative magic, taking advantage of merchandise for the movie, by giving characters, showcased by merchandise not enough screen time.

Pros:

1. Kylo Ren- acting was pretty good, and it showed his struggle with the dark side after killing Han Solo

2. Rey- acting was good, and it showed her struggle of learning how to use the Force

3. DJ- acting was good, and reminded me of Hondo Ohnaka from Star Wars: The Clone Wars and Star Wars Rebels

4. Porgs- good screen time, since they were heavily showcased with merchandise

5. General Leia Organa- acting was good, but it was hard to watch her scenes after Carrie Fisher's recent death

Cons:

1. Snoke- Force Awakens showed Snoke was as powerful or more powerful than Darth Sidious. With today's CGI technology, he was super scary. The Last Jedi had Snoke die in 10 seconds with an lightsaber slice to the torso. Hopefully Lucasfilm pulls the Darth Maul card, and he gets robotic legs in Star Wars: Episode 9 or that Snoke on the ship was an cheap clone decoy, and he is hiding somewhere in the galaxy preparing to get his revenge on Rey and Kylo Ren.

2. Humor- Lucasfilm took the humor of Thor Ragnarok and boosted it by 10, there was an cheap not funny joke every 2 seconds after the opening crawl.

3. Movie Length- Lucasfilm made the movie too long, my legs fell asleep halfway through in the movie theater. With movie trailers before the movie, the movie was 3 hours long. What made it worse is that the movie theater had uncomfortable chairs, which made the time length even worse.

4. Movie Audio- In most of the scenes, the audio was very quiet. The music was loud enough, but I could barely understand the dialogue from the characters. It could of been the movie theater that messed up the audio settings for their speakers during the projector setup.

5. Poe Dameron- he had pretty good character development in the Force Awakens, but the character development dropped by an couple of points in The Last Jedi, because he gets cocky and disobeys multiple orders from the resistance leaders.

6. Captain Phasma- In The Force Awakens, she showed Star Wars fans that she meant business and showed no mercy. In The Last Jedi, she had an cheap death by Finn during their duel. Finn cuts part of her helmet, and one of her eyes was showed under the cutted helmet piece, which was an nice callback to Ahsoka and Darth Vader's duel in Star Wars Rebels. Hoping Captain Phasma comes back with rage to Finn and the Resistance in Star Wars: Episode 9

7. Movie Trailer Selection- The movie theater chose horrible trailers to showcase before the movie. Most of the movie trailers were your normal action movies that no one was interested in like Ready Player One. The only good trailers that they showcased were Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom and Avengers: Infinity War. The movie theater could of easily swapped one of the boring trailers like Disney's An Wrinkle in Time with Black Panther, but nope, they decided to showcase 5 boring trailers and 2 good trailers before the movie started.

8. Shirtless Kylo Ren- the scene was pointless, and they should of made him put his uniform back on, before talking to Rey through Force Bond, or cutted it out of the movie. It felt like the scene was created for female Kylo Ren fans to go gaga over him and his pecs/muscles. Male Kylo Ren fans didn't need to see Kylo Ren with his shirt off. I know, all of you will be like Disney and Marvel Studios did the same thing with Captain America, well that was different, since it advanced the plot. Shirtless Kylo Ren didn't advance the plot at all, and it felt repetitive, since they did an couple of other Force Bond conversations perfectly fine with Rey and Kylo Ren wearing clothes.

9. BB-9E - not enough screen time and overhyped with merchandise. Merchandise showed that the droid was going to be Kylo Ren's right hand droid while commanding the First Order, but he only got like 2 minutes of screen time. He could of gotten cut out the movie entirely, and nothing would be affected.

10. Canto Bight- the entire planet felt non Star Wars, music was good, but the action sequence of Finn and Rose escaping security was silly, and it felt like it was copy and pasted from Pirates of the Caribbean

Final Rating: 3/5

The worst part for me is, this makes me like EP7 less, all the setup and intrigue introduced by TFA is irrelevant now, with no payoff in between. This movie is like one big middle finger from Rian Johnson to the fandom.
